Colt Bisley San Francisco 1906 Shipped

Lot # 175a (Sale Order: 221 of 795)

SN: 277446, Caliber 32-20. The accompanying Colt factory letter dated August 28, 2007, confirms configuration and shipment to Pacific Hardware and Steel Company, San Francisco, California, on May 1, 1906, just 12 days after the San Francisco earthquake tragedy! One of a five gun shipment. Pacific Hardware had been constructed just one year prior and was one of the few buildings to survive in the district. (It is a National landmark today) It was miraculous it was delivered at all as the earthquake and ensuing fires destroyed over 80% of the buildings with 3000 killed. In the ensuing chaos, the mayor ordered looters to be "Shot on sight". "Hardware dealers sold an estimated 200,000 pistols in one month". (Writer Lately Thomas) The Army was called in, and groups of armed citizens roamed the streets. The official count is nine looters shot dead, but some estimate up to 300.The features of this Colt are as follows: Blade front sight and frame notch rear sight. Two line block letter address on top of the barrel, "(BISLEY MODEL) 32 W.C.F." on the left side of the barrel and the left side of the frame is marked with the two-line, three patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The frame and hammer were casehardened, and the remaining metal surfaces were blue. Wide low hammer spur and wide trigger with characteristic "humpback" grip. Matching serial number on frame, trigger guard and backstrap, and the loading gate is unmarked. The left rear of the trigger guard is marked with the Colt triangle "VP" proof, and the left front is marked with the number "3". Fitted with two piece checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the tops. The bore is very good, strong rifling, action is crisp/smooth, grips are very good overall, there is a small crack on the front left panel, (It appears the bottom of the grips had some writing on them that have since been buffed out) blue is about 60%, with traces of the case colors remaining on the frame. All marking are excellent, clear. A nice conditioned Bisley with a fantastic history. NRA Condition-Good. C&R Firearm.
