Colt Single Action Army .45 LC SN: 6595

Lot # 125 (Sale Order: 132 of 677)

Inspected by Ainsworth Custer range. An authentication by noted export John Kopec dated "Aug 28, 2002" is included. Mr. Kopec states "This revolver originated from lot seven and was found on the Wind River (Wyoming) Reservation and is in exactly the same condition as date found. The example is a composite of two revolvers. The BBL was from #5414 in prime Custer range also. Mr. Kopec states countless incidences of mixed parts on cavalry revolvers and were generally field repairs. The grips may or may not ham revolver. #5414 or possibly a third "parts donor". The U.S. is defaced which is often found on indian captured revolvers. Also, the top stamp shows rust and pitting more severe than the rest of this Colt, which Kopec theorizes it may have been a reason for a BBL changing (stuck in mud or creek). Another part the loading gate #783 does not match other assembly #667. Kopec further states "there is no question this revolver serial #s 6595 and 5414 place it well within the range of Custers battle revolver. Our records indicate serial #5416 is a presumptive Pine Ridge Souix Reservation revolver, this serial # being only two numbers away from the subjects revolvers BBL number. Also, "all stampings are original and metal surfaces never polished or buffed." A notarized affidavit dated 5-11-16 states, "Colt 6595 was gifted in trade to a Lou Wright while staying on Wind River Reservation and lists serial numbers and trade to Keith Kristianson. Other research (not conclusive) attributes this revolver to Privat William Davis (Killed at Little Big Horn, Custer Battle).Condition is NRA Good**Antique Firearm**
