Original Watercolor

Lot # 107a (Sale Order: 128 of 644)

Done on paper by noted Mexican artist Diego Rivera. Depicting a farmer, image size is 12"x15". Similar pieces have recently sold over 60k at Sotherbys. Diego Rivera (1886 - 1957) was active/lived in New York, Michigan / Mexico. Diego Rivera is known for Social realist mural painting. Born in Guanajuato, Mexico in 1886. Rivera studied art in Europe and was greatly influenced by Picasso, Cézanne, and Giotto. He was Mexico's most renowned muralist when, at the urging of Ralph Stackpole, in 1930 he was brought to San Francisco to paint murals in the Stock Exchange and Art Institute. While there he had his first American solo exhibition at the CPLH. He also painted a small fresco for Mrs. Sigmund Stern which is now in Stern Hall at UC Berkeley. Rivera returned to Mexico in 1931 to complete mural decorations in the Palacio Nacional. He painted murals in the Detroit Art Institute (1933) and Rockefeller Center in NYC (1934). In 1940 he was again in San Francisco to paint a 1,650 square foot fresco for the GGIE entitled Culture of the Americas. This fresco is now installed in the foyer of the Little Theater at San Francisco City College. After the GGIE he returned to Mexico and died there on Nov. 25, 1957. Although his greatest inspiration was from the work of Giotto, his work is rooted in Aztec and Mayan forms. In: SF General Hospital; Mexican Museum (SF); Mills College (Oakland); SFMA; CPLH.

J. Stevens Model 1877 12 Ga SN: 579

Lot # 108a (Sale Order: 130 of 644)

Stevens 3 trigger shotgun with western history. As belonging to A. Neville who brought it to Sabine area between Texas and Louisiana from iconic Jim Andteresa Earle Frontier Arms Collection. This gun was nicknamed the "assassin" and has a dark history of killing, murder, and suicide. A. Neville alleged to be a cousin of the Younger Gang association with Jesse James bought it first to the Sabine area where Lating Parrot obtained it from a saloon keeper who loaned it to Neville. Parrot was related to the pirates who ran with Jean La Fittes famous band. George Pecicillson was gunned down by a cohort of Parrots after he had killed Parrot. The cohort committed suicide in San Antonio after being tracked for murder and theft of horses. The stolen "assassin" was reprocessed and brought back to Sabine area where the bearer then murdered his family in a honor killing. A .McCormc obtained the gun and took it to Zucille, Louisiana where he sold it to Juan Leonne a Mexican who then murdered his family in another honor killing and then turned it on himself. The gun was then traded to John Robert Parrott for grain at his plant. JR Parrot left the gun to Joseph B. Parrott MD, then to John Parrott MD, other recollections of the wild times of the Sabine area are recanted by John H Parrott in his 1973 letter envelope addressed to Jim Earle on his stationary. The envelope was supplied by Sotherby Parke Benet of LA California who had sold the "assassin" Stevens to Earle at auction and put Mr Earle in contact with Parrott. An interesting history and story that deserves further research into the events and area of Sabine. Antique Firearm

By noted Mexican artist Diego Rivera. Depicting a framer carrying a sack, hand signed and dated 1944, image size is 10"x14". 25, 1957.
