Starr Arms 1858 Navy Conversion .38 RF #179

Lot # 143 (Sale Order: 176 of 765)

Civil war era doble-action-only revolver converted from .36 caliber percussion to shoot .38 Caliber Rimfire, manufactured circa 1858. The Union army ordered 2,250 Navy model 1858 revolvers which accounted for most of the 3,000 total production number, though these are seldom found with inspector stampings. Features a blued finish, 6" round barrel, dovetailed blade front sight, 'v' notch rear sight cut into the top of the hammer, loading lever, non-fluted six shot cylinder, rounded trigger, knurled hammer spur, and one-piece smooth walnut grip. Serial numbers match on the frame hammer and loading lever with no other numbers observed. Revolver displays a nice even aged dark brown patina with areas of bright bluing retained in protected areas. The thumb takedown screw has been replaced with a standard flathead screw with proper treads. Action is non working due to missing or broken springs but otherwise appear functional, the bore is good with scattered mild pitting, markings are legible and the wood grips are fair with repairs & losses. Condition is near NRA Good. ***Antique Firearm***
