All brown, each with a figure of an eagle holding a branch and arrows in its claws, set against American flags and standing on top of the earth. Pitcher 14" tall, mugs 5" tall. In great condition. Circa 1890-1910.

Tempura Painting by Arthur C. Begay.

Lot # 339 (Sale Order: 502 of 848)      

Depicting skinny cow with wolves. Image 19-1/2" wide x 15-1/2" high. Framed 24-1/2" wide x 20-1/2" high. Navajo Arthur C. Begay, Sr. (1932-2010) attended Phoenix High School, after which he received his art training from the Famous Artist's School. An electrician as well as an artist, his paintings have been exhibited at Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonials in Gallup, New Mexico; at the Lawrence Indian Arts Show in Kansas; at the Navajo Tribal Fair and Rodeo in Window Rock, Arizona and at the famed Philbrook Art Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Begay's paintings are included in the collections of the Heritage Center Collection in Pine Ridge, South Dakota and at the Amerind Foundation in Dragoon, Arizona. His paintings have been receiving awards at the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonials in Gallup since 1986. He is listed in Patrick Lester's book The Biographical Directory of Native American Painters as well as Jeanne Snodgrass' book American Indian Painters: A Biographical Directory.

(1) Model 1904 Lariat. Snap spring missing. Aged with some loss to finish on metal, and rope shows some wear. (1) Model 1885 Lariat. (1) Buckle has been replaced at depot with 1908 buckle which is marked "R.I.A. 1908". In aged condition, the original buckle has surface rusting and the replaced buckle has rusting and loss to brown lacquer finish.
