(1) Model 1878 Soldier's canteen with grey cover marked "U.S.". Spout is not original as has been replaced. Does not have the original leather carry strap. The cover is in good condition with minor staining, the metal components have some loss of finish and minor surface rust, also the rim is bent. (1) Indian Wars era canteen with hanger. And one U.S. stamped canteen cover marked R.I.A 1908 in very good condition

(1) Circa Spanish War era. Drab canvas covering marked "7 N.Y. K1". with canvas strap and metal hanger. Cork lid on metal chain. In aged condition with staining, surface rust on lid, and damage to rim. (1) With drab canvas cover marked "U.S." and "R.I.A. 1903". Has concave back. Canvas and metal strap and hanger marked "R.I.A. 1905". Cork lid on chain. Shows age and wear, light staining on canvas, wear on concave side, surface rusting to metal components. With hanger of later period.

Advertising Lithograph by H.A. Ogden

Lot # 399 (Sale Order: 586 of 848)      

For field campaign uniforms, non-commissioned officers and privates. Copyright 1885 by Brig. Gen. S.B. Holobird Quartermaster Gen. USA. Image size 12" wide x 14-1/2" high. Framed and matted 17-1/2" wide x 21-1/2" high. A pre-eminent painter of Colonial domestic and social life, he is especially known for his acurate depictions of colonial dress, uniforms, customs and architecture. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 17, 1856, he graduated from Brooklyn High School, attended the Brooklyn Institute, Brooklyn Academy of Design, the National Academy of Design, and the Art Students League. Ogden began working at age 17 for Leslie's Illustrated Magazine as a staff artist and in 1881 he started working for Strobridge Lithography Company of Cincinnati from which he retired in 1932. The Quartermaster General of the U.S. under the authority of the Secretary of War commissioned Ogden to provide paintings of U.S. Army uniforms from pre-revolution to present times. He provided 44 plates of uniforms which appeared in 1890 in Uniforms of the US. Army by H.A. Ogden, with a reprint in 1959 by Sagamore Press. Ogden provided the designs for the stained glass windows in the Valley Forge Memorial Chapel and authored the following books: Our Army for Boys; Boys Book of Famous Regiments; George Wsahington For Young People.In 1936 he willed his art work to the New York Historical Society. Harry Ogden died on June 15, 1936.

Cover marked inside "Long 2 18" and outside "U.S.". Leather wraparound strap and metal hanger with no visible markings. (1) Canteen With cup, cover, and hanger. Canteen stamped U.S. ACA 1918", with seam, concave back, and lid on chain. Cup with folding handle, stamped U.S. L.F. & C. 1918". Canvas cover marked "U.S." with wrap around leather strap with metal hanger, probably 1917 model.

(1) Military canteen with cover and hanger. Canteen stamped "U.S. L.F. & C 1918". Olive green canvas cover marked "U.S." and "R.I.A.". With leather wraparound strap and metal hanger. (1) Model 1918 Military Canteen and Cup. With cover and leather hanger. Canteen with lid and attached chain, stamped "CCC", has seam and also concave on one side. Cup has fold up handle and is stamped on bottom "U.S. EDWARD KATZINGER CO 1943". Cover is canvas with leather strap and swivel metal hanger. Marked "U.S." on one side and "C.C.C." on the other, also JEFF O.M.D. 1934" on bottom.

(1) Meat can, probably 1910 Model. Offset pull ring. Stamped "U.S." on handle. Approx 8-1/4" long x 6-1/2" wide x 1-1/2" tall with lid. (1) Model 1874 meat can. Solid handle, no pull ring. Circular shape used in Spanish American War. No visible markings. Aged, with minor surface rusting, and a dark patina. small dent and some scratching on bottom. Handle is not seized and moves freely.

Mitchell's Mauser Mdl K98k 8mm SN: 5915

Lot # 404a (Sale Order: 595 of 848)      

Marked "BNZ 43" on the receiver ring denoting Manufactured by Steyr in Austria. Matching numbers on stock, barrel, bolt handle, bolt shroud, bottom metal, floorplate and barrel bands. Mismatched numbers on the rear sight base and the follower. Restored by Mitchell's and re-stocked with a laminate wood stock. Comes with a "Letter of Provenance" Certificate from Mitchell's. Condition is Very Good to Excellent in restored condition.
