Peruvian Moche Red Clay Pot

Springfield Mdl 1873 SN: 173378

Lot # 222a (Sale Order: 328 of 848)      

Trapdoor breechloader. Caliber is about .50. The hammer is plated. The receiver and the first 9+ inches of the barrel are in the white. The rest of the barrel, the ramrod, the barrel bands, butt plate and the trigger guard are blued. The butt plate is stamped "US" and the bands are stamped with a "U". The front sling swivel is missing. The rear sight has a ramp graduated from 1-5 and a ladder graduated from 6-12. The barrel is just under 33" long. The wood has a few rubs and dings. Clean bore with visible rifling. Condition is fair to good for an antique.

Single action rimfire guns. One is marked "Defender" and the other is marked "Defender 89". On the Defender the cylinder doesn't always rotate when cocked. The cylinder pin is damaged and the pin retainer is missing. On the Defender 89 the cylinder doesn't turn and the trigger may be broken. Single shot spur trigger pistol made in early 1870's with 2-1/2" octagon barrel. Brass frame, square butt rosewood grips and fixed sights. Barrel swings sideways for loading. Extractor mounted under the barrel at breech. Side of barrel marked "Brown Mfg Co." Good markings and good working action.
