Cased Engraved Silver and Gold Inlaid European Pinfire Revolver with Ivory Grips
Estimate: $1400 - $2250
The only visible marking on this revolver is a "crown/L" proofmark on the front cylinder face and a "crown/G" on the side. An oval Liege (ELG) proof is also present on the cylinder. The breech end of the barrel has silver wire inlays with gold dots and the muzzle end has alternating gold and silver dots (most absent). The cylinder is engraved with floral designs in oval panels with gold dots in the center, silver and gold wire designs and silver dots (most absent) around the front and rear edge of the design. The frame and backstrap are engraved with floral scroll designs. Dovetailed pinched front blade sight, hammer notch rear sight, ejector rod mounted on the right side of the frame, folding trigger and fitted with smooth two piece ivory grips. Complete in a canvas covered wooden case adorned with brass tacks and red velvet lining. There is a leather carrying handle on the back.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 30% original blue finish with a brown patina on the balance, and some minor pitting. The cylinder retains 90% original blue finish with some spotting and minor pitting. The frame retains hints of casehardening with the balance a smooth brownish gray patina. Some of the silver wire inlay is absent from the cylinder and as noted above many of the dots are absent as well, and a small piece on the breech end of the barrel is also absent. The action needs work, it doesn't always function properly and needs to be "played with" in order to get it to function properly. The grips are very good taking on a pleasant mellow patina. Manufactured mid-1800s. Marked "INVON E. LEFAUCHEUX BRTE PARIS" on the top barrel flat and the right rear flat is marked "? / LF" followed by "5047". The right side of the trigger base is marked "INVON E. LEFAUCHEUX / BREVETE SRDG (PARIS)". The cylinder, frame and breech end of the barrel are engraved with floral patterns, dovetailed ramp front bead sight, ramrod mounted on the right side of the frame, folding trigger and fitted with smooth two piece varnished grips. Complete in a rosewood veneered "piano finished" case with inset brass shield and wire border on the lid, hunter green velvet lining with gold "VERNEY JNE / A LYON" on the inside of the lid, five compartments, two with lids and cleaning rod.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 85% original blue finish with areas of flaking and thinning with a smooth brown patina on the exposed areas. The cylinder retains 98% original blue finish. The frame retains 70% soft original case colors, mainly in protected areas, with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The hammer shows half of the original case colors with a smooth gray on the balance. The grips have had the escutcheon removed on right grip (and reinstalled chipping varnish) and remain very fine with most remaining, and showing some minor wear and chips on the lower edges, and a few minor dents overall. The engraving and markings are clear. The action is fine. The case is fine with a few minor age cracks and dings and the lining shows some minor contact wear and staining.

No makers marks, Liege and "crown/T" proof marks on the rear cylinder face and "JS" on the front face, "crown/T" on the lower right front of the frame and the lower rear barrel flat is marked "ACIER FONDU". Floral and scroll engraving on the cylinder, frame, barrel and grip straps. Dovetailed pinched blade front sight, hammer notch rear sight, ejector rod mounted on the right side of the frame, spring loaded loading gate, folding trigger and fitted with smooth two piece ivory grips with decoratively engraved escutcheons. Complete in a canvas covered wooden case with brass initial shield and brass tacks on the lid, royal blue velvet lining and carrying handle on the back side.

There are no visible markings on this revolver. The cylinder is engraved with a star and floral leaf design with roses and geometric designs on the frame and grip straps, and floral scroll on the back of the hammer and underside, front of the frame. Dovetailed ramped bead front sight, made without a rear sight, ejector rod mounted on the right side of the frame, folding trigger and fitted with smooth two piece walnut grips. Complete in a canvas covered wooden box with a brass plaque on the lid. Brass tacks and blue velvet lining.

The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled silver gray patina. The grips are fine with 90% varnish, some wear on the lower edges and a few minor dings and dents. The engraving is crisp. The action is excellent. The case is very good with some wear on the edges and heavier on the bottom. The lining shows some contact wear.

Double action pinfire revolver with floral and scroll engraving on the frame. The left rear of the barrel is marked "E. LEFAUCHEUX / INVR BREVETE", the right rear is marked with a "crown/Z" proof, the bottom of the barrel is marked with a crown proof and the bottom of the lug is marked "NM B". The serial number is marked on the left lower front of the frame and the cylinder is marked with the Liege proof and a crown over "L" and "Z" proofs. The frame under the grip is marked "3231". Raised bead front and hammer notch rear sights, folding trigger, ejector rod mounted on the right side of the frame and fitted with two piece checkered walnut grips with lightly engraved escutcheons and a shell design carved on the flats.

Engraved European Brass Pinfire Revolver with Fitted Leather Pipe Case

The barrel, cylinder, frame, and ejector rod are brass with the remaining parts iron. There are no maker markings but a "crown/V" proof and a Belgian Liege "ELG" proof are stamped on the cylinder. An additional "crown/V" proof is stamped near the ejector rod which is mounted on the right side. The number "26" is marked on the left side of the frame under the grip panel, with the number "25" on the reverse. "26" is also marked on the back of both grips. The front of the cylinder features an alternating scroll engraving and geometric engraving. The edges of the recoil shields and loading gate feature dot engraving and the top barrel flat has leaf type engraving. Fixed front sight, folding trigger and checkered grips. Complete with a rare pipe case lined in purple velvet and silk.

Condition: Fine. The brass has been polished with some pin point pitting (mostly on the cylinder) and a few areas of discoloration. The case is very good with minor handling marks and minor wear on the lining.

Except for the hammer, screws and trigger, this revolver is all brass in construction. The top of the barrel is engraved "E. Lefaucheux Bte a Paris", the right rear barrel flat is marked with a crown (faint) over "N" proof and the cylinder is marked with a crown over "V" and Liege proof marks. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights, folding trigger, ejector rod mounted on the right side of the frame and fitted with checkered ebony grips.

Condition: Fine as period plated with 80% gold finish remaining showing a few dings and pock marks under the finish. The hammer and trigger remain bright with some discoloration on the trigger. Almost all of the bright fire blue finish remains on the screws. The grips are very good with a small area of minor wear on the lower left panel, a few minor dings and crisp checkering. Unless noted above, the markings are clear. The action is excellent.

A scroll engraving on a matte background is featured on the frame, grip straps, and barrel cluster chambers, with a scroll engraving on the recoil shields and a geometric engraving on the frame underside in front of the folding trigger.

The ivory has aged to an attractive yellow color with a nice grain pattern. Action is tight.

The lock is marked with a crown behind the hammer and "T BLISSETT / LIVERPOOL" ahead of the hammer. Writer believes this to be a pattern 1856 Cavalry Service pistol. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the number "25" followed by and English military proofmark that is deeply struck. Blade front sight and the groove of the barrel tang screw serves as the rear sight. Iron ramrod mounted on a swivel and mounted with a smooth one piece full stock with brass forend plate/ramrod pipe, brass trigger guard and buttplate with lanyard ring.

This lot consists of two identically engraved W. Thompson brass barrel percussion pistols. The smoothbore brass barrel features a bead front sight, two British proofs and a wedge of scrollwork on the top flat at the breech. There is a fixed notch rear sight behind the breech plug. The lock plate, trigger guard, breech plug, and fish sculpted hammer are blued and feature a scroll engraving with the breech plug also having an inlaid silver band. The lock plate is marked "W THOMPSON". The stock has checkering in the grip area, a single stock wedge with German silver escutcheons, and a German silver initial oval behind the upper tang. Complete with a brass tipped ebony ramrod.

German silver dovetail blade front and notch rear sights, with "London" signed on the top flat of the barrel, engraved tang and breech, and a set of gold and silver bands. Lock plate is marked "MOORE" at the rear, with scroll engraving on the lock and hammer, a fish design on the head of the hammer, and a half-cock safety notch. German silver fittings on the stock, with scroll engraving on the finger rest trigger guard and buttcap, bag shaped checkered grip, and an extended backstrap spur with plate marked "T.P. to/ Philip Pike".

A) Francotte Single Shot Target Pistol

These Francotte target pistols were made for a dealer in South America and are marked "FAIT POUR E. BARRIE CALLE RIVADAVIA 507 BUENOS AYRES" on the upper right barrel flat and "A. FRANCOTTE BTE A LIEGE" on the upper left flat. 14 3/4 inch overall length. The inside of the trigger guard is marked "10". The barrel is equipped with a windage adjustable front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight, and an extractor. Side lever action break mounted on the underside of the frame, double set triggers, finger spur on the trigger guard, blue barrel and break lever, polished hammer and casehardened remaining parts, and mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and grip with an iron buttcap with decorative stud. Complete in a wooden case with purple stain and velvet lining, and a small nickel oiler.

Condition: Fine. The barrel shows some original blue finish in protected areas with the balance having a dark patina with overall moderate oxidation The remaining parts retain almost all of the original case colors with scattered areas of moderate pitting. The forearm release lever shows heavy pitting. The forearm and grip are ill-fitting to the frame and the forend insert is absent, otherwise the wood is very good with only a couple of minor pressure dents and handling marks, and crisp checkering. The markings are legible. The action is fine. The case is very good with a few minor scratches and scuffs on the exterior, some staining on the satin lining in the lid and sun faded velvet lining showing a couple of tears and a broken compartment wall (still intact).

The only visible marking on the pistol is a Liege proofmark on the breech end of the barrel on the top flat. Light floral engraving on the lock, hammer, barrel tang and trigger guard. There are some remnants of gold inlay on the left rear barrel flat. Bird shaped left side plate, blade front sight, iron ramrod and mounted with a one piece walnut stock with checkered grip area and domed iron buttcap with floral design engraving.

Condition: Very good. There are traces of he original brown finish and Damascus pattern on the barrel. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. The stock has been sanded in places, refinished and the checkering has been crudely recut. Otherwise the stock shows a few minor dings and dents. The action is excellent.

The frame sides have an engraved military motif with "NEVILLE" in an oval on the left side and "LONDON" in an oval on the right side. Screw barrel and hammer safety. A pair of British proofs are stamped ahead of the trigger, with a starburst engraving on the trigger guard. The barrel has a British proof with the serial number "301". Smooth slab side one piece grip. Complete with a partitioned wooden case lined in blue velvet. The following accessories are included: powder flask with a shell design on one face, screwdriver, single conical bullet mold marked with the number "52", container, and barrel wrench.

Condition: Good. The pistol has a dark mottled brown patina with some minor pitting. The engraving is clear. The case is fine with some minor handling marks. The otherwise fine lining shows some minor wear. The accessories are very good.

B) Neville Flintlock Pistol
As described in "A", but with the number "300" marked on the barrel.

B) English Screw-Barrel Flintlock Pocket Pistol
Produced without sights, with a wrench lug on the underside of the barrel, engraved arrays of arms on either side of the box lock frame. Center mounted hammer and flash pan, with a sliding half-cock safety latch. Checkered bag shaped grip.

A) Collins Flintlock Pistol

Estimate: $1800 - $2750
The sides of the frame are engraved with a military motif that incorporates "COLLINS" in an oval on the left side and "LONDON" in an oval on the right side. 5 3/4 inches overall length. Engraved slide bar safety, two British proofs in front of the niter blue finish folding trigger and a British proof on each barrel. The screw barrels are rifled and manufactured without sights. Slab sided one-piece grip with checkered backside and silver diamond inlay behind the upper tang. Complete with a wooden partitioned case with green felt lining. Includes the following accessories: screwdriver, an unidentified tool, ramrod, oiler, and double face oak leaf pattern powder flask.

Condition: Very fine. The barrels retain 60% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The trigger retains traces of original niter blue finish. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. The grip is also very fine with some minor dings and scratches, with some minor bruising in the overall crisp checkering. The relined case is fine with some minor handling marks and a screw missing from a hinge.

Custom Cased Engraved Gold Inlaid London Made Eastern Trade Percussion Pistol with Silver Mounted Wire Inlaid Stock and Accessories

This is an example of an ornate English percussion pistol made for the Eastern Trade. 16 1/2 inches in length, the top barrel flat is marked "London" and has floral vine gold inlay on the upper flats with two gold inlaid bands around the breech plug. The lock, barrel tang and hammer are engraved with fine scroll designs and the lock is marked in Old English script, "J Child". The barrel is equipped with a solid under rib, wooden ramrod with silver tip, silver blade front and fixed iron rear sights. The stock is beautifully decorated with silver wire inlays and decorative patriotic motif relief carved silver mountings. Complete in a wooden case with purple velvet lining, wooden cleaning rod with silver end, wooden handled screwdriver, powder flask and bullet iron mold.

Condition: Very good. The barrel has a smooth brownish gray patina with some minor pitting. All gold inlays remain with the floral vine design having faded in color a bit. The stock has been cleaned and remains very good with a minor hairline crack on the right front and overall a few minor dings and handling marks. All of the wire inlay in the stock is intact with only a very small area behind the tang that has come loose. The silver has been polished and most retains a bright appearance. The markings and engraving are clear. The action needs some work the hammer stops at half-cock when the trigger is pulled and fully decocks on a second pull. The left barrel flat is marked "FABRIQUE / DE ST ETIENNE" and the right flat is marked "MOUVEMENE / ACIER, with "ACIER FONDU" on the cylinder. The barrel is equipped with fixed sights and has a band of engraving at the muzzle. The ejector rod has an ivory head. A fine relief vine and leaf engraving is present on the short octagon barrel section, the cylinder, the rear of the recoil shields and loading gate, the sides of the frame, and the backstrap, with a scroll engraving on the trigger guard and butt. The edges of the recoil shields and loading gate are also engraved.

Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 80% original nickel finish with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina with some minor flaking. There is some blistering on the barrel. The ivory has a nice grain pattern and has aged to an attractive yellow color.

Blade front and hammer groove rear sights, with a pair of small crossed scepter proofs on the underside of the barrel and traces of a makers mark on the left side of the lug. Fitted with a swiveling ejector rod and a 12-round, fully fluted cylinder with a set of unidentified proofs. The frame and trigger guard are scroll engraved. Checkered bag shaped grips with a lanyard ring on the butt.

A) Allen & Thurber Dragoon Size Percussion Pepperbox Revolver

Marked "ALLEN & THURBER WORCESTER" and "PATENTED 1837 CAST-STEEL" on two of the barrel ribs. Broad leaf scroll engraved frame, floral engraving on the removable nipple shield and scalloped borders on the backstrap. The side of the hammer is marked "ALLEN'S PATENT", with matching numbers on the barrel, hammer, spur trigger guard, the frame under the grips. Fitted with smooth two piece walnut grips.

Condition: Very good. The metal surfaces have a dark patina with overall minor pitting. The grips are also very good with a few small gouges on the lower left panel and overall some minor dings and dents. The engraving and markings are clear. The action is fine.

B) National Arms Teat-Fire Front Loading Revolver
Manufactured from 1864 to 1870 by the Moore's Patent Firearms Company and the National Arms Company Brooklyn, New York. This particular revolver is marked "NATIONAL ARMS CO. BROOKLYN, N.Y." on top of the barrel and the rear edge of the cylinder is marked "D. WILLIAMSON'S PATENT JUNE 5 - MAY 17, 1864". Blue barrel and cylinder and silver plated brass frame without the hooked extractor mounted on the right side and the standard floral scroll and punch dot engraving. Brass blade front and hammer notch rear sights and fitted with checkered two piece walnut grips. Approximately 20,000 revolver were made in this configuration.

Crown/U German nitro proofs are present on the left side of frame, lower barrel, flat, and cylinder. The left side of the frame in front of the 6-shot cylinder is marked "SIMSON & CO / SUHL" above the serial number and "07/49" marked on the lower left flat. Fixed sights, with crown/letter proofs stamped on the barrel, frame, and cylinder. Fitted with checkered grips and a lanyard loop on the butt.

B) French Model 1892 "St. Etienne" Marked Double Action. Revolver
Manufactured in 1899 and so marked. The top barrel flat is marked "Mle 1892", "S 1899" on upper right flat, and proofmarks on upper left flat, with "Mle d'Armes / St Etienne" on right side of frame, along with serial number. Blued with straw colored hammer, trigger, and loading gate. Fitted with checkered grips and a lanyard loop on the butt.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 95% original blue finish with some minor thinning and some minor edge wear, with some scattered minor pitting and spotting. The trigger, hammer, and loading gate retain 90% original straw color. The grips are also excellent with some scattered minor handling marks. Overall the checkering is crisp. Mechanically excellent.

This is an example of a fine Brasher London brass three barrel flintlock pistol. 8 inch overall length. The left side of the frame is marked "BRASHER" in an oval surrounded by a flag and drum motif and the right side is marked "LONDON" in an oval surrounded by a flag motif. The three barrels are positioned two on top and one below in the center. Each as a feather design engraved on the muzzle and numbered 1 to 3 at the breech with corresponding number marked on the frame. The underside of the frame is marked with a recessed "crown/P" and "crown/V". Tap action with sliding hammer safety and hockey stick shaped smooth one piece grip. Complete in a wooden case with brass handle on the lid, five compartments with green felt lining, a powder flask, iron bullet mold, and wood and horn brush.

Condition: Fine. The gilted brass appears to have been cleaned some time ago and has since aged back to an attractive sheen, and is a bit darker on the frame. The action is excellent. The case is very fine with a few minor dings and scratches on the exterior and excellent lining, absent of any wear or staining. The accessories are all very good.

Custom Cased Matched and Consecutively Serial Numbered Pair of Gold Gilted Brass European Percussion Pistols
A) Brass Liege Proofed Percussion Pistol

Estimate: $1400 - $2250
The barrel and frame are one piece brass with a left side and top plate and gold gilded. The barrel has a cannon muzzle and a rib 1 inch behind the muzzle. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the oval Liege proofmark and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The hammer is bright and the trigger guard was finished blue. Fitted with smooth one piece bag shaped grip. Complete in a wooden case marked "BOSTON" on the lid, with black velvet lining, wooden ramrod, powder flask, a brass container with round lead bullets and a hard rubber cap holder with screw on lid. There is a short handwritten note from the consignor stating that these Belgium pistols, serial numbered 6116 and 6117 in Boston box were purchased at the Edward G. Robinson estate auction in Sarasota, Florida in 1972. Edward G. Robinson was in movies from 1916 to 1973 playing a variety of characters, but was best known for his roles as a tough guy gangster. Robinson died at age 79 in Los Angeles, California in January, 1973 of cancer.
