L. McIntosh Revolving Percussion Rifle

Lot # 275 (Sale Order: 274 of 920)

L. McIntosh Revolving Percussion Rifle

The top barrel flat is marked "L McINTOSH" under the elevation adjustable rear sight (elevation bar missing). The front sight is a blade. A unique action uses a side hammer (right side) that when released from the full cocked position, a cylinder striker from inside the receiver moves forward to strike the percussion nipple. Ahead of the hammer is a rotating handle with a wooden knob which appears to have been a safety (does not function). When the handle is rotated upwards a thick metal panel covers the opening to the striker channel. The cylinder is manually turned (hammer must be cocked for the cylinder to turn) and a sliding cylinder lock is on the left side of the receiver. A scroll engraving is featured on the action with a stag on the left side of the receiver. The rear of the cylinder has each chamber numbered (1-6) and proofs (appear to be British) are stamped between the chambers. The straight grip stock has a checkered wrist, a blank silver initial inlay and a flat metal buttplate with engraved tang.

Fair. The rifle has a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting. The stock is fine with a sliver of wood missing near the upper tang and some minor handling marks with some wear in the checkering. Mechanically very good.
