Scarce FN-FAL G-Series Semi-Automatic Rifle

Lot # 523 (Sale Order: 521 of 920)

Scarce FN-FAL G-Series Semi-Automatic Rifle

This is a beautiful, like new example of a very scarce, G-Series FN-FAL rifle as imported by Browning Arms Company between 1959 and 1962. The rarity of the G-series FN-FAL rifles stems from the receivers being capable of accepting select-fire components, e.g. being capable of being converted to a fully automatic rifle. Initially the BATF determined that these had to be registered or destroyed. However in 1963 the BATF reversed this position and determined that they were not "machine guns" and could be legally imported and sold as semi-automatic rifles. Additionally in 1973, the BATF issued a new opinion that specifically exempted, 1,836 G-series FN-FAL rifles as imported by Browning (by serial number) from the provisions of the National Firearms Act. This rifle is listed by serial number within the exempted serial number block of; (G1570-G1784). This is a standard FN-FAL rifle with the long flash-hider with bayonet lug and walnut stock and forearm with a plastic pistol grip. It is fitted with a "type 1" receiver with milled lightening cuts, that is marked on the right side "FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE - HERSTAL BELGIQUE" in one line, with the left side marked "F.A.L. cal. 7,62. The left side of the lower receiver is correctly marked "A/R/S", which are the fully automatic markings; with the selector switch correctly factory blocked so that it can't rotate to the automatic position. These are the same original markings as found on original select-fire rifles. It is fitted with the military, adjustable rear sight that is marked on top of the sight with 2-6 (200-600 meters). The serial number; "G1743" is located on the underside of the receiver, the left side of the pistol grip, bolt and bolt carrier. The rifle comes with one 20-round magazine. The FN-FAL was widely considered to be the best 7.62MM, gas-operated, service rifle manufactured during the late 1950s up through the 1980s.

Very fine with 98% of the black military finish with minor edge and high spot wear overall. The wood components are all in near excellent condition with only a couple of minor handling marks on the stock. As noted this rifle has matching components and is in exceptional all original condition. Mechanically fine.

Excellent. The carbine retains 98% of the original black finish with light handling marks, a couple of minor scratches and a small scuffed area on the right side of the receiver behind the ejection port. The synthetic is excellent with some light handling marks. The sight optics are clear. Mechanically excellent.
