Scarce Pre-War Seven-Digit Serial Number Range Police Marked Walther PPK Semi-Automatic Pistol

Lot # 570 (Sale Order: 568 of 920)

Scarce Pre-War Seven-Digit Serial Number Range Police Marked Walther PPK Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a scarce example of a Walther PPK pistol that falls into the production block using a "seven-digit" serial number range. At end of 1938 when the Walther factory reached the last serial number 999,999 for the PPK contracts, they opted to continued with production using seven-digit range serial numbers. It is estimated that a few thousand PPKs were actually produced in the block of serial numbers, before deciding to revert back to the use of the 100,000 serial number blocks and then began using the "K" suffix for the PPK on the end for PPK pistols. This desirable example is even more unusual in that it was issued under a Police contract as it has the small Eagle/C Police proof on the left side of the frame. It has the standard two-line, one block slide markings followed by "Mod PPK". The serial number is stamped vertically on the right frame side. It has the standard slide legend with commercial "crown/N" proofs on the slide, chamber and barrel. It is fitted with the standard checkered mottled, brown plastic, Walther banner marked, wraparound grips and a single blued magazine with the Walther banner on the lower left side.

Fine condition with 85% of the faded blue finish remaining overall with wear on the edges and high spots with blue loss on the front edges of the slide, with some thinning on the front grip strap. The grips are in fine condition with a nice mottled brown color overall with minor handling marks on the sides, with a slight gap in the back where the grip fits the frame. There is some minor nicks on the lower right side with a hint of warpage on the lower front edges of the grips. A very desirable and unusual pre-war Walther Police marked PPK pistol.
