First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver

Manufactured in 1921. The one-line address is marked on the top of the barrel, and "45 COLT" is on the left side. The left side of the frame is marked with the two-line, three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The upper left front of the trigger guard is marked with the number "3" above the Colt triangle "VP" proofmark. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The assembly number "156" is marked on the loading gate and right rear of the frame. Blue finish with a casehardened frame and hammer, blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top, and matching serial number correctly scratched into the side of each panel.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Fine overall with 60% original blue finish remaining, with some thinning to a smooth gray patina in some areas, some edge wear and rotation marks on the cylinder. The frame and hammer retain 40% of the original fading case colors. The oversize replacement grips show a few minor dings on the bottoms, some minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.

California Shipped First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 4 3/4 inch barrel in .32-20 caliber, blue finish, and type of stocks not listed when shipped to B.H. Dyas Co., Los Angeles, California, on December 22, 1916. Matching numbers are found on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap.

Fine. The revolver retains 70% original blue finish and 60% original case colors with the balance a mixture of smooth brown and gray patinas. The grips are good with a cracked left panel and missing chip on the bottom of the right panel that has been slightly shaved down. The action functions, but needs work as the cylinder does not always lock properly when the hammer is fully cocked.

Antique First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1898. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line Colt address, the left side is marked "45 COLT," and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "968". Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, hard rubber grips and that it was shipped as 1 of 5 to Hartley & Graham in New York City on January 25, 1898.

Good. The metal surfaces exhibit numerous light abrasive scratches with the balance a mottled gray patina with some pitting on the cylinder. The replacement grips show moderate wear overall, more prevalent on the left panel. The markings are clear. The action is fine.

First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver in Scarce Documented .38 Colt Caliber with Factory Letter

The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 4 3/4 inch barrel in .38 Colt, blue finish, and type of stocks not listed when shipped to M. Hartley Co. of New York City on July 7, 1906, as part of a 6 gun shipment. Standard Colt markings and matching numbers on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap. This is one of just 1,011 manufactured between 1886 and 1914 in .38 Colt.

Very good. Traces of original blue finish remain on the barrel and ejector rod housing; otherwise, traces of original blue finish remain in the protected areas with the balance a mottled gray patina mixed with some mild pitting. The heavily worn replacement grips are fair with a couple minor nicks and some minor dings. Mechanically fine.

Documented Abercrombie & Fitch Shipped Frontier Six Shooter Colt First Generation Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

The letter lists this revolver as the sole gun of its type in a shipment on Christmas Eve 1925 to Abercrombie & Fitch in New York City in the current configuration. The barrel has "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER .44-40" (variation introduced pre-January 1923) on the left and the two-line address on top. The frame has the two-line/three-date patent marking and Rampant Colt trademark on the left. Matching serial numbers are on the frame and right side of the grip frame, and "865" (the assembly number) is on the back of the frame and the loading gate. Some faint letters are scratched on the front of the loading gate. The grips are not numbered.

Fine with refinished grip straps, 85% plus original blue finish on the barrel and cylinder, 60% vibrant original case colors on the hammer, brighter case colors in the protected areas and otherwise 50% fading original case colors on the frame, light cylinder rotation and flash marks, and general minor handling and storage type marks. Manufactured in 1899. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line Colt address, the left side is marked "38 W.C.F.", and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. Matching serial numbers and "924" assembly number on the loading gate. Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue finish with casehardened frame and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 5 to A.F. Shapleigh Hardware in St. Louis, Mo., on June 6, 1897. Comes with a 36 inch brown leather cartridge belt (34 cartridge loops) and single loop holster.

Good overall. The revolver has a smooth mottled gray patina with traces of some faded original blue finish in protected areas. The right grip panel shows some smoothing of the checkering; otherwise, the grips show overall moderate wear. The markings are clear. The action is fine. The belt is fine with some heavy wear and separated stitching on three loops. The buckle and attaching strap are replacements. The holster is good with some wear and tight stitching.

The top of the barrel is marked with the two line Colt address, the left side is marked "38 W.C.F." and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "818". Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue finish with casehardened frame and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, hard rubber grips and that it was shipped as 1 of 25 to Simmons Hardware Co. St. Louis, Mo. on January 23, 1897.

Very good plus. The barrel and ejector housing retain 30% original thin blue finish and there are strong traces of faded original case colors in protected areas on the frame. The balance of the metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray and brown patina. The grips are good with a marred area on the right panel, a few minor dings, and a small minor bruise in the otherwise crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.

World War I Era Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1915, this Colt SAA revolver is fitted with a "left / unserialized Colt Model 1878 DA Long Flute" cylinder. One line address on top of the barrel, "32 W.C.F." on the left side and two line, three patent dates on the left side of the frame followed by the un-circled Rampant Colt. The left front of the trigger guard is marked with the Colt "VP" triangle proof and marked "1" on the left rear. Fitted with checkered grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the tops. "1120" is scratched on the inside of each grip panel. Back strap, trigger guard and frame serial numbers all match.

Good. All metal has a smooth gray patina with strong original blue finish on the barrel around and under the ejector rod housing and in the cylinder flutes. There are a few minor tool marks on the cylinder. The grips are fair with most of the checkering worn smooth. All the markings are clear. The action is excellent.

U.S. Colt Model 1873 Cavalry Single Action Army Revolver

U.S. Colt Model 1873 Cavalry Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

This Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Revolver was manufactured in 1882 and inspected by Ordnance Sub-Inspector David F. Clark (D.F.C.). The revolver has the original 7 1/2 inch barrel and ''bull's-eye'' ejector rod head. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the ''elongated block'' Hartford address and underside of the barrel is stamped with the partial serial number, "2932", a "P" proofmark and the sub-inspector's initials, "D.F.C." A small "G" and "C" are stamped on the barrel below the ejector housing lug. The bottom of the frame is stamped with "D.F.C." above the serial number "82932". The ''three-line/three-date'' patent markings and "U.S." property mark are stamped on the left side of the frame. The loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "1357". The trigger guard and back strap are serial numbered "82603". The replacement cylinder is stamped with the partial serial number "6359", a "P" proofmark and the "D.F.C." sub-inspection mark. The revolver has a commercial hammer with short, bordered cross-hatching on the spur. The one-piece walnut grip is stamped with illegible Ordnance inspector and sub-inspector marks stamped on the sides. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver in .45 caliber, blue finish and barrel length and type of stocks not listed (usually indicating 7 1/2 inch and walnut, respectively) when sold to the U.S. government and delivered to the U.S. inspector at the Colt plant on October 23, 1882.

Class: Antique

Fair. The mismatched replacement cylinder is an old re-blue with 50% of the finish. The revolver barrel, trigger guard and back strap have a silver-gray patina with scattered minor dents and scratches. The barrel has scattered light pitting. The frame and hammer have a gray patina with traces of the casehardened finish in protected areas. There is scattered light pitting on the frame. The slightly undersized replacement grip is refinished with repaired chips on both sides that run diagonally from the middle of the back strap to the middle of the grip strap. The action is fine.

Produced in 1883. Lowered blade sight on the barrel, with the one line Hartford address and early "bull's-eye" ejector head. Black powder frame with screw on the front strap and three line, three date patent numbers on the left side. Trigger guard is marked "45 CAL" on the left side. Fitted with a pair of smooth one piece grip.

Class: Antique

Very good, with traces of the original finish. Original high polish blue is visible on the protected areas of the ejector housing and back strap, with a gray patina and light handling marks overall. The frame has turned gray with sections of brown patina, strongest on the front strap. Grips are very fine as slightly undersized, with mild age cracking and an attractive patina which really brings out the grain. Mechanically fine. A nice solid example of an original "Old West" Colt black power Single Action Army with very attractive grip.

Manufactured in 1911and subsequently refurbished by the factory. Standard one line Hartford address on top of the barrel, the left side of the barrel is marked "(BISLEY MODEL) 45 COLT.", and the left side of the frame is marked with the two-line, three patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. Matching serial number on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap, the left side of the front and back straps are marked "427"under the grip. The upper right rear of the trigger guard bow is marked with the Colt factory rework star. The assembly number "31" is marked on the loading gate. Blue with casehardened frame and hammer, blade front, frame notch rear sights and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top.

Very fine as factory refinished overall with 98% blue and vivid case colors remaining. Wear is limited to some light muzzle and edge wear. There are a few very minor dings and scratches on the barrel and cylinder. The replacement grips are also very fine with crisp checkering. The left side barrel marking and the Colt triangle proof are faint; otherwise, the markings are clear. The action is excellent.

Fine First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver

Manufactured in 1902 in .41 Long Colt with the scarce 5 1/2 inch barrel. Blade front and notch rear sights with the one line Hartford address on top of the barrel and caliber markings on the left side, with a crescent-style ejector. Smokeless powder frame, marked with the two line, three date patents on the left side followed by the circled Rampant Colt. Matching numbers , "W" above the striker hole and "310" on the loading gate. Checkered hard rubber grips with matching numbers penciled on top forward interior flats, Rampant Colt logos at the tops.

Fine with 50% original blue finish remaining mixed with smooth brown and gray patina, especially on the grip straps. There is some very minor spotting on the cylinder. The frame retains 30% plus original case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The grips are also fine with some handling wear and distinct checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.

U.S. Stamped Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Army Revolver

U.S. Stamped Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

This is a professionally restored Indian War Era Colt Model 1873 Cavalry Single Action frame that was rebuilt to 1877 specifications. The factory letter states that serial number 35337 Colt revolver was delivered as 1 of 203 to the U.S. Government by Colt on February 13, 1877. The letter verifies the caliber, blue finish and the barrel length with stocks "Not Listed". The revolver has the standard subdued, military blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap and casehardened frame and hammer. The one-piece, oiled walnut grip has the date, "1877" stamped above the acceptance mark of Ordnance Inspector Lt. David A. Lyle (script letters "DAL") on the lower left side. The lower right side of the grip is stamped with the script initials "JTC" (Ordnance Sub-Inspector John T. Cleveland). Small "J.T.C." inspection marks are stamped on the cylinder, right grip heel and the underside of the barrel. The revolver has the early, round ejector rod head and Cavalry pattern hammer with extended checkering on the spur. The top of the barrel is marked with the "Second Style Condensed Block Letter Address: "-COLT"S PT. F.A. M.F.G. Co HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.-" The address has a distinctive hyphen at either end. A small "P" proof mark is stamped on the underside of the barrel perpendicular to the bore in front of the "J.T.C." sub-inspection mark. The left side of the frame is stamped with the "three date/three line" patent marking followed by "U.S." The full serial number, "35337", is located on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number "5337" is located on the side of the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. The loading gate is stamped with the assembly number, "4058".

Class: Antique

Professionally restored to nearly mint condition. The blue finish is a very close match to the dull military blue and nearly all remains. The 'feathered" polishing marks are present on either side of the front sight. The casehardened finish on the frame and hammer have vivid colors. The oiled walnut grip shows minimal wear with sharp restamped "1877/ DAL" and "JTC". The grip appears to have been carefully refinished and the inspection marks improved slightly. All marking are very sharp. The action is crisp and functions fine. This is an attractive restoration of a scarce Indian War Colt Single Action Army revolver.

Attractive Restored Blackpowder Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

The accompanying 1989 Colt factory letter describes this SAA as having a 7 1/2 inch barrel in .45 caliber, blue finish and type of stocks not listed when shipped to John P. Lower & Sons in Denver, Co., on August 17, 1887. It has been restored to military specification with all of the early features found on the Ainsworth sub-inspected U.S. contract SAAs such as cylinder with small bolt stops and guides, first style ejector housing with barrel boss, bullseye ejector rod head, script barrel address, and two-date/two-line patent frame markings with "U.S." property mark. The barrel, trigger guard, back strap and right grip are all re-stamped with the "A" sub-inspection mark used by Ainsworth. The cylinder lacks the "A" sub-inspection mark. The lower left side of the grips is re-stamped with the script initials "OWA". Small "P" proof marks are stamped on the barrel ahead of the re-stamped "A" sub-inspection mark and on the cylinder. The full serial number is stamped on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder.

Class: Antique

This revolver has been expertly totally restored/rebuilt and is in nearly mint condition. The blue finish is slightly brighter than the original Colt military blue finish and shows minimal wear. 99% vivid case colors remain. The one piece custom made grip is near mint. The action is tight and functions perfectly.

Henry Nettleton Sub-Inspected Colt Single Action Army Artillery Model Revolver with Factory Letter

The accompanying factory letter states this revolver was delivered to the U.S. government inspector at Colt as part of a lot of 150 guns on August 2, 1878. This revolver was probably converted to Artillery configuration by Colt circa 1895-1896 and retains all of the original serial numbered components. The full serial number is on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number "9172" is on the barrel and cylinder. The "HN" mark for Ordnance Sub-Inspector Nettleton is on the frame, trigger guard, cylinder and back strap. The barrel has the "W" mark for Ordnance Sub-Inspector E.C. Wheeler who inspected revolvers in the 000 serial range during Nettleton's absence. "P" proof marks are stamped on the barrel and cylinder. The frame has the Colt three-date/three-line patent mark followed by "U.S." The barrel has the Colt "Style 3" address. The ejector rod has the early bullseye head. The hammer has civilian style knurling on the spur and may be a replacement installed when the revolver was altered by Colt c. 1895. The grip lacks inspection marks.

Class: Antique

Fine. The revolver has been professionally restored and retains 95% of the blue and casehardened finish. Traces of pitting are visible beneath the blue on the barrel, and there is light pitting on the muzzle crown. The cylinder, trigger guard and back strap show light to moderate handling wear. 95% of the vivid case colors remain. The replacement grip is near mint. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is a fine looking, professionally restored, desirable Henry Nettleton sub-inspected SAA altered to Artillery configuration by Colt.

Colt Model 1878 Frontier Six Shooter Double Action Revolver

Exceptionally Fine Antique Colt Model 1878 Frontier Six Shooter Double Action Revolver

51,210 of Model 1878 DA revolvers were manufactured between 1878 and 1905 compared to 111,500 of the more compact Model 1877 DA revolvers in a similar time frame. This revolver was manufactured late in 1898. The barrel has the one-line address on top and "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" stamped on the left side. The grips ("788") are numbered to the gun, and the loading gate and left side of the grip frame have matching assembly number "215."

Exceptionally fine. The revolver retains 85% plus bright original highly polished blue finish with the rear grip strap and forward ejector rod housing, a smooth brown-gray patina. 90% plus bright original nitre blue remains on the trigger and hammer. The grips are excellent with a few mild handing marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.

Made in 1881. Barrel address "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CT. USA." "45 COLT" is marked on left side of barrel. Iron blade front sight with notch rear sight. The left side of the trigger guard bow is marked "45 CAL". Rampant Colt is stamped on lower left frame. Grips are without Colt motif or serial numbers. Lanyard ring on butt.

Class: Antique

Fine overall. 70% original nickel remains with remaining finish a mottled steel gray. The barrel has surface pitting scattered around the muzzle area. The frame exhibits pitting in front of cylinder and has scattered surface spotting throughout. Cylinder retains 50% finish. Trigger shows traces of niter blue. Grips are good with handling marks. The action needs minor work as it locks up.

Manufactured in 1887. The barrel has the one-line Hartford address on top and the etched panel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side. "44 CAL" is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard. Matching numbers are found on the butt and cylinder.

Fine, retaining 30% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The etched panel is clear. 60% of the original nitre blue remains on the hammer and trigger. The grips are very good with some minor handling marks, a couple scuff marks, and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.

Scarce Documented Colt Sheriff's Model 1878 Double Action Ejectorless Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1905 with a desirable 4 inch barrel lacking an ejector. The factory letter lists this revolver with a 4 inch barrel in .45 caliber, blue finish, and type of stocks not listed when shipped to Chas. J. Godfrey Co. of New York City on August 19, 1905, as part of a 39 gun shipment. The cylinder is numbered to a different gun ("681"). Matching assembly number "21" on loading gate and grip frame.

Fine, retaining 50% plus bright original high polish blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The cylinder has some minor pitting mixed with mild spotting. Colt "star" rework/refurbish mark is visible on right rear trigger bow.

Fine as factory refinished (see above), retaining 70% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The front sight is modified to a bead style. The frame retains 30% vivid original case colors in and around the protected areas. The replacement grips are fine with minimal handling evidence and highly attractive color. Mechanically excellent.

Etched Barrel Panel Colt Sheriff's Model 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1880. The accompanying factory letter (photocopy) lists this revolver with a 2 1/2 inch barrel in .38 caliber and type of stocks not listed when it was shipped to Hartley & Graham, New York City on July 10, 1880. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address, the left side has the scarce etched panel "COLT. D.A. 38," and the left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, cylinder and both grip straps.

Very good. The revolver retains 25% original blue finish and traces of original case colors in the protected areas with the balance a mix of smooth brown and gray patinas. There is some cold blue touch up and file-like marks on the back strap. The etched panel is legible. The grip is also very good showing some high edge wear, some minor dings and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically fine.

Remington Model 1875 Single Action Revolver

Only approximately 25,000 Model 1875s were manufactured between 1875 and 1889. This one has smooth bone grips and otherwise standard markings and features. There are no visible caliber markings suggesting .44 Remington. The sides of the "web" are hand marked "B. Gamble."

Class: Antique

Fine with 60% plus original nickel plating, light gray and brown patina along with some slight pitting on the exposed steel, and a spot on the right side of the frame between the loading gate and top of the grip where another marking has been rubbed off. The slightly undersized grips are fine with small chips, age cracks, and attractively aged tones. Mechanically excellent.
