Mauser 1941 "Eagle/L" Nazi Police Luger, w/Ex.Mag & Holster

Lot # 1600 (Sale Order: 601 of 1003)

World War II Mauser Banner "1941" Dated "Eagle/L" Nazi Police Marked Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol Rig with Two Magazines and 1941 Police Holster

Fixed sights, with the "1941" date over the chamber and the Mauser "banner" logo on the toggle. A set of "eagle/N" proofs are present on the extension and breechblock, and the "eagle/swastika L" police stamp is on the right side of the extension. The barrel has the alignment mark and "8,82" diameter measurement but is otherwise unmarked. Finish is full blue, with the takedown safety installed on the extension, and the external numbers are matching. The two magazines have blued stamped bodies and are numbered "1" and "2" on the alloy bases above "2174/eagle/swastika L" (no suffix). The holster is a 1941 dated Otto Sindel, with a police-style eagle and "Pol.Chtz" (possibly Polizei Chemnitz) stamped in the back and "SORENSEN" hand-cut between the belt loops. An unmarked takedown tool that has been filed on the bottom edge is included. No information on Sorensen is available, though such markings are commonly found in field-captured G.I. war trophies.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Very fine, with 90% of the original blue finish, showing some light handling marks, bright edge wear, and a few hints of spotting and brown patina. The slightly ill-fitting replacement grips (the left panel obstructs magazine release button) are also very fine, with some light dings and dark spots. The holster is fine, with some scattered minor scuffs and scratches. Mechanically excellent.

DWM Mauser Model 1934/06 Swiss "Cross In Sunburst" Luger

Lot # 1603 (Sale Order: 604 of 1003)

DWM Mauser Model 1934/06 Swiss "Cross In Sunburst" Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a scarce example of a late production Swiss Model 1934/06 commercial contract Luger pistol that was produced by the DWM/Mauser factory, with the "Cross in Sunburst" crest on the chamber and DWM logo on the front toggle. It is theorized that these were ordered by a Swiss retailer, intending them for commercial sales in Switzerland. They used the early letter "V" suffix code in the serial number before the DWM/Mauser factory switched to the standard five-digit serial number block. This example has the correct polished/milled lower safety position with no markings and the "GELADEN" marked extractor. It has the early Mauser factory "Crown/U" proofmarks, the distinctive fast taper barrel, 1906 style grip safety, no stock lug, flat toggles and correct Swiss cross proof on the various parts. The pistol is complete with one nickel-plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Fine as professionally restored with 95% of the current blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear. The smaller parts retain 75% of their straw colors. The grips are in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering overall with minor handling marks with some wear across the tops of the checkering.

Weimar-Era Commercial DWM Model 1906 Luger

Lot # 1606 (Sale Order: 607 of 1003)

DWM Model 1906/20 Commercial Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

Manufactured in Germany, this Luger lacks both the assorted "crown" proof marks and any "GERMANY"/"MADE IN GERMANY" nomenclature; the former would be needed for domestic or European sales, and the latter would be required on Lugers destined for the United States, leaving a bit of mystery regarding where this Luger has been. Blade front and notch rear sights, with a blank chamber, "DWM" on the front toggle link, and (minus the magazine) external numbers are matching overall. The lower safety area is marked "GESICHERT", with "GELADEN" on the left side of the extractor. The unnumbered grips are checkered, with a combination of straw color and fiery blue on the small parts. The magazine is nickel finished, with a "7,65" marked alloy base.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Very fine, with 98% of the professionally restored blue finish showing some polishing marks, bright edge wear, spotting concentrated on the muzzle and in the bright areas, and mild handling marks. The straw colors are dark but present, with some high point wear. The grips are very fine, with a few light dings and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

DWM Model 1908 Military Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol Dated 1913

Lot # 1611 (Sale Order: 612 of 1003)

DWM Model 1908 Military Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol Dated 1913

This is a very nice example of a scarce 1913 dated DWM Luger pistol. This is generally accepted as the last year that DWM manufactured the 1908 pattern luger pistol. These can be distinguished by the lack of the hold-open device and stock lug. This example has been modified to add the hold open device which was later performed on many Model 1908 Lugers after WWI. The top of the chamber is dated "1913" ,and the front toggle is marked "DWM". It has standard factory markings with Imperial acceptance markings on the barrel extension and barrel. The underside of the barrel is also marked "BO" which indicates it has a Bohler steel barrel. It has the standard rust blued finish with straw colors on the small parts with checkered walnut grips. It is complete with one WWI, nickel plated magazine with an unnumbered wooden base.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Very fine overall with 85% of the faded original blued finish showing minor edge and high spot wear overall with some minor old light rust/old pin-prick pitting on the left side of the front sight base, the center section of the barrel and the front and rear grip strap. The various small parts retain traces of their refurbished straw colors. The grips are also in very fine condition overall with nice distinct checkering on both sides with only minor edge wear on the lower edges of the grips. It has matching numbers on the various parts except the magazine. A very nice example of a 1913 dated Luger pistol.

According to the letter, Lieutenant Trammel, while acting as a platoon leader in April 1945 inside Germany, took this rifle (ID'd by serial number in the letter) as a trophy during an advance on Kassel (written as "Kastel" in the letter). Kassel served as headquarters of Wehrkreis (military district) IX and the location of a Dachau sub-camp providing forced labor for the manufacture of Tiger I and King Tiger tanks and was taken after multiple days of dirty house-to-house fighting. Prior to Kassel, the 318th was involved with the relief of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge; a letter to the editor of "The Bulge Bugle" in May 1996 from "R.J. Trammell, Jr., 80th INFD 318 INF 1 BN D" relates the story of a Christmas Day assault towards Tintange, Belgium, which brought heavy German fire while attempting to pass through a tree farm, resulting in extremely high casualties from unintentional airbursting of the enemy shells. Reports of Trammell's post-VE exploits are limited; he's reported as having participated in the occupation of Bavaria in spite of wounds suffered in the line of duty, was in Salinas, California circa late December 1993-early January 1994 to sell a rifle, and was still up, about, and in a mood for letter writing in 1996. The rifle is equipped with fixed sights and a brown leather sling, with a "40E2" marked barrel, "byf/42" receiver, and a smooth matching numbered stock with "WaA135" proofs and a cupped steel buttplate. A bayonet is also included, "DURKOPP" marked, with an unnumbered sheath and a black leather frog.

Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun

Fine, with 50% of the original blue finish, showing some areas of brown patina, along with some minor handling marks and spotting. The wood is also fine, with a number of scuffs and scratches, and the leather shows some cracking and stains. The bayonet is good, with a screw absent from the grip and a rough scabbard and frog. Mechanically excellent.

A very nice pre-war commercial production Mauser Wehrmansgewehr Tirolean Shooting Association (Tiroler Schutzen Verein, T.St.V) rifle. Developed from the Gewehr 98, the Serviceman's Rifle was configured for para-military target shooting between 100 and 300 meters, chambered for the 8.15x46R cartridge, a lower-powered round that would be safer for use in built-up areas and provided with a level of fit and finish well beyond the martial production arms of the same era. Blade front and windage adjustable tangent rear sights with caliber marking on the left side of the breech, a spread-winged Nazi Tyrolean Eagle on the front receiver ring over "T.ST.V." and the serial number and the Mauser banner on the rear receiver ring, "crown/letter" proofs on the left side, and the Mauser address on the side wall. Milled components. Smooth pistol grip stock, with sling mounts on the underside and a flat steel buttplate.

Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun

Patterned as closely as possible after the Gewehr 98 military rifle, the "Wehrmannsgewehr" was intended for civilian or paramilitary target practice, using the commercial 8.15x46 cartridge instead of the 7.92x57, which was restricted post-WWI.
