Unique Weimar Era Double Date 1920/1918 DWM Police Artillery Luger Rig

Lot # 1375 (Sale Order: 376 of 952)

Unique Weimar Era Double Date 1920/1918 DWM Police Artillery Luger Rig

This is a very fine example of a post WWI Weimar era DWM Police issue Model 1914 Artillery Luger that is complete with one Police numbered matching magazine and converted Police leather holster. In all respects this was a late WWI Artillery Luger, turned in under the 1920 Reichswehr recall, stamped 1920, and then converted into a Police issue Luger by the addition of the magazine safety (now deactivated) and the side plate safety (spring still present). The chamber is stamped 1920/1918, with the DWM logo on the front toggle. The pistol overall still retains all the various military acceptance and inspection proofs along with the noted modifications. It still retains its original military style full serial number on the major components and the last two digits on the various small parts. It is complete with one original WWI type nickel plated magazine with the wooden base that has been renumbered by the Police when it was reissued and is now marked on the base, "2/6978/" over the old serial number. As noted this example is complete with a WWI Artillery holster that has been converted into a belt type Weimar Police issue holster. The front of the holster is stamped with "F.R. AUGXXXXNFELD/G.M.B.H./DARMEN" and it complete with an unmarked takedown tool.

Condition: Very fine with 95% of the arsenal refurbished blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear. The various small parts retain 98% of the straw colors. The grips are also very fine with nice distinct checkering overall with minor handling marks. As noted this Weimar era police Artillery Luger has all matching numbers to include the magazine.

Spectacular Nazi Walther PPK Party Leader Semi-Automatic Pistol with Documented High Party Leader Ho

Lot # 1376 (Sale Order: 377 of 952)

Spectacular Nazi Walther PPK Party Leader Semi-Automatic Pistol with Documented High Party Leader Holster Rig (Photographed in Rankin Book) with NSDAP Badge and NSDAP Gold Shoulder Strap

This is a beautiful example of an original WWII Nazi Walther Mod. PPK Party Leader pistol with the rare Party Leader grips. When these Party Leader grips are installed, they were officially known as the "Honor Weapon of the Political Leaders" and were only presented to high ranking Nazi officers of the NSDAP for meritorious service to the Nazi Party. The grips themselves are a one piece wraparound grip consisting of a mottled brown plastic material that has the distinctive large Nazi Eagle clutching a Swastika circled by a wreath at the top on both sides and the balance of the grip having impressed checkering. The pistol slide is marked with the Walther Banner followed by the two line Walther legend and caliber followed by "Mod. PPK.". The pistol has the "Crown/N" commercial proofmarks, stamped on the right side of the slide, frame and barrel. The pistol has a 60 degree safety lever, cartridge indicator pin and lanyard loop on the bottom of the frame. This very scarce pistol is also accompanied by an original and equally rare Party Leader Walther PPK pressed paper holster with original NSDAP badge on the holster flap and an original NSDAP Gold brocade shoulder strap. The original Gold NSDAP Party Leader badge attached to the holster, depicts a Nazi Eagle clutching a Swastika circled by a wreath, which is the same as the pistol grips. This beautiful rig is complete with an original Walther marked magazine with the brown plastic finger extension. Party Leader grips will be found on Walther PPKs in the 851,000 to 431,000K serial number range, indicating this example is a very early pistol. The very rare Party Leader holster and belt that accompanies this pistol is the exact one pictured on page 204 of the book "Walther Volume III, 1908-1960" by James Rankin.

Condition: Very fine as refinished with 90% of the blue finish on the pistol with edge and high spot wear overall. The grips are very fine with a nice matching color on both sides, showing some minor age crack around the grip screw bushings and upper right side. The holster is very good with an excellent bright shiny exterior finish with the stitching intact and the NSDAP badge still attached. The NSDAP Gold brocade shoulder strap is also excellent with all the gold face of the strap still intact with nice original intact stitching. The holster hanger and belt buckle and loop all retain 98% of their original gold paint. The only notable issues are that the lower front holster flap has the top of the strap torn off and the flap itself has become detached from the holster due to the age of the material. Still an exceptionally rare and all complete late WWII Nazi party leader PPK pistol and original NSDAP holster and shoulder strap rig.

Scarce Early World War II Nazi Production Mauser Model G-41(M) Semi-Automatic Rifle

Lot # 1377 (Sale Order: 378 of 952)

Scarce Early World War II Nazi Production Mauser Model G-41(M) Semi-Automatic Rifle

This is a good example of a late production WWII German Model G-41(M) rifle as manufactured by Mauser. These rifles were produced in 1941/42 in response to the request by the German Weapons office for a semi-automatic rifle. These rifles actually use a combination of both a bolt action mechanism and a gas-operated semi-automatic system. Initially the action had to be charged using a 98K style bolt action function, than after the first shot the rifle would function in a semi-automatic mode through the use of a gas-operation system where exhaust gases were trapped in the muzzle cone to actually drive the operating rod located under the barrel and in turn cycle the action. The top of the receiver is stamped "Eagle/135/G-41(M)/1942" with the actual serial number of the rifle stamped on the left side of the rear sight base. The rifle is fitted with an excellent reproduction walnut stock copied from an original pattern that has a small Eagle/135 proof in the pistol grip area, that is fitted with an original steel cupped butt plate and short walnut handguard. It is complete with an original leather sling, cleaning rod and front sight cover. These are considered very rare today, as they were produced in very limited numbers early in WWII when the Mauser factory was able to use all machined parts and components that required considerable amount of manufacturing time and labor. They were eventually phased out in favor of the G/K43 rifles and they also saw considerable use on the Eastern front and suffered a high attrition rate.

Condition: Fine with 60% of the blue finish overall with wear and thinning on top of the action, barrel bands and muzzle cone. The stock as noted is an excellent reproduction that duplicates the original configuration to include the Waffenamt proof. Regardless this is an extremely rare and early rifle that would be suitable for any high end WWII German rifle collection.

It is fitted with an original (non-matching) Walther production scope mount correctly marked "fest" and "lose" on the locking lever. The mount has a single "Eagle/359" Waffenamt proof on the rear of the mount with serial number "3983" etched on the front end. The mount is fitted with a wartime ZF 4 sniper scope that is marked "Gw/ZF 4/dow/13122", indicating it was manufactured by the Opticotechna Werkes in Czechoslovakia. The scope has a metal rain shield on the front, a rubber eye shield on the rear and has a set of lens caps, (wooden plug and leather cap). The rifle is fitted with a wartime laminated stock and handguard with a smooth cupped buttplate on the stock. The stock is stamped with a single "eagle/359" proof on the butt with a single smaller proof on the inside the pistol grip. This excellent G43 sniper rifle is complete with a front sight cover, cleaning rod and a WWII "awj/K43" marked magazine.

Condition: Excellent with 95% of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with minor thinning on the exposed barrel. The stock and handguard are both very fine with a nice matching color overall, and nice clear markings on the stock showing minor handling marks overall with a small separation of the laminates on the lower rear left side of the butt. The scope and mount retain 90% of their blue finish overall with clear sharp markings. The optics are very hazy with a intact reticle. The sling is good showing wear down the full length.

Lot # 1379 (Sale Order: 380 of 952)

Desirable DWM Model 1902 Luger Carbine with Shoulder Stock, Accessories, and Custom Presentation Trunk Case

This is a very nice example of a DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine rig that is complete with the matching shoulder stock, two magazines and accessories all contained in a deluxe leather bound reproduction walnut storage/display case. These carbines were specifically developed to compete with the early Mauser Broomhandle carbines as well as all the other stocked pistols being manufactured in the later 19th and early 20th century in Europe. These carbine Lugers have a unique front frame hanger, that was silver soldered to the frame by the DWM factory, that the small walnut forend attached to. The forend houses a small spring accelerator mechanism and is required to correctly cycle the longer carbine length barrel during the firing phase, by assisting the barrel/upper receiver back into battery. All these 1902 Luger carbines have all the rare and desirable early features such as: 11 3/4 inch barrel, old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. The top of the chamber is blank and the front toggle has the "Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken", DWM logo. The full serial number "23566" is correctly marked on the underside of the frame extension and the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number "66" are marked on the bottom of the recoil lug, and the various other small parts. The right grip is numbered "81" on the back side with the right side having only a small asterisk stamp on the back side. As noted this Luger carbine has the matching numbered, attaching iron with an excellent reproduction checkered walnut stock. The stock itself conforms exactly to the original version in all aspects; length, checkering and finish which has been fitted with a correct style plastic buttplate and original sling swivel. The scarce Luger carbine is complete with two replacement Swiss, nickel plated magazines with the dark brown plastic bases. As noted this wonderful carbine rig is housed in an original style case. The case itself is approximately 21 inches long by 8 inches wide and features a green felt lining with a black and gold label on the inside the lid that reads "DWM/Berlin Parabellum-Pistol". The case is a hard wood construction that has black leather covered exterior with silver plated hinges, locks and carrying handle on the front. It has six compartments which house the Luger, shoulder stock, spare magazine, the brass cleaning rod, and reproduction leather carrying strap.

Condition: Very fine as professionally restored and assembled with all the parts and accessories all in an original style/configuration. The walnut grips are near mint with nice sharp distinct checkering. The walnut stock as noted is near mint, with a nice medium brown matching color with nice distinct checkering overall. The case and various accessories are all in very fine condition.

Very Fine and Desirable Vickers Ltd. Model 1906 Dutch Contract Luger Pistol

Lot # 1383 (Sale Order: 384 of 952)

Very Fine and Desirable Vickers Ltd. Model 1906 Dutch Contract Luger Pistol

This is a scarce Luger variation that was manufactured by the Vickers Ltd. Company in England for the Netherlands. There were approximately 10,000 manufactured in the 1915-17 time frame. However they are very rare today as they saw considerable use in the Far East in the British colonies, with most in terrible condition and almost all being arsenal refurbished during the 1925-1933 time frame. The pistol has a blank chamber area with the front toggle link stamped "VICKERS/LTD" in two lines. The left side of the barrel extension is stamped with the "Crown/W" Dutch Wilhelmina proof and both sides of the extractor are marked "GELADEN" with the safety area marked "RUST". The top of the barrel is not dated (although the frame is with "C/16" for 1916 on the right side of frame) and the underside of the barrel is stamped with "Crown/V", "Crown/GP" and small "NP" British Nitro proofs, along with the pistol serial number and the same British "Crown/V" proof on top of the breech block and front toggle. A brass plate was correctly soldered to the left side of the frame that has been stamped "Mgd. Tmi./251". Since this is a 1906 style pistol there is no stock lug, it is fitted with a grip safety and it has the original coarse checkered walnut grips that are numbered "6982" on each grip. It is fitted with one original nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base, that has the distinctive small spring clip on the rear of the wooden base.

Condition: Very fine overall with 85% of the arsenal blue finish showing minor wear on the edges and high spots that has dulled overall and is mixed with some minor brown patina/spotting on the finish. The various small parts retain 15% of their straw colors. A very nice example of an original Vickers Ltd. Model 1906 contract Luger with all matching parts, the correct magazine as noted and an unnumbered firing pin.

Rare Early First Variation Walther Zero Series P38 Pistol with Two Matching Magazines Concealed Extr

Lot # 1384 (Sale Order: 385 of 952)

Rare Early First Variation Walther Zero Series P38 Pistol with Two Matching Magazines Concealed Extractor and Leather Holster

This is a rare example of one of the First Model Nazi Military Zero Series P38 pistols, with two matching numbered magazines. This pistol is one of approximately 965 (based on known serial numbers) First Issue pistols with the concealed extractor, rectangular non retractable firing pin, flat faced hammer with the smooth sides, and commercial high polish blue finish. This rare variation also includes the early/experimental reinforcing plate on the back side of the stamped trigger, as briefly discussed on pg. 167, volume one of the book "The P.38 Pistol" by Buxton. He notes in there that serial number "0540" there were two small rectangular cuts on the back side of the trigger, with no known explanation. The explanation is that those cuts are part of an early attempt to reinforce the stress point of the stamped trigger. This example still retains the small stamped trigger insert, that fits into those rectangular cutouts to reinforce the back/sides of the trigger. Obviously this was an early stamped manufacturing shortcut that was later dropped from production as all later wartime and commercial P.38s do not have this small stamped reinforcing feature. These were the first true German military contract P38 pistols ever manufactured and are a must collection pistol for any high end German military/P.38 collection. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther banner followed by "P.38" and the serial number "0503". The matching serial number is also located on the front of the barrel lug and the left side of the frame above the trigger guard. The right side of the slide is marked with a single Eagle firing proof, flanked by two "Eagle/359" Waffenamt proofs. The "Eagle/359" proof is also marked on the left side of the frame, takedown lever, slide stop lever, hammer, trigger and the right side of the barrel lug. The locking block is numbered "503" and has the "Eagle/359" proof on the right side and the Eagle firing proof on the left. The left side of the barrel lug is marked with the bore dimension "8,83". This excellent rare pistol is fitted with two matching early zero series blue magazines. The magazines are numbered on the side "0503" and "0503+" and each one has a dull blue sides with the high polished floor plate. The spine of each magazine has a "Eagle/359" acceptance proof. The pistol is fitted with the correct matching early zero series black plastic grips with checkered sides and the hollowed out back sides. Each grip panel has a "Eagle/359" waffenamt proof and serial number "503". It is complete with a early all black leather holster that is marked on the back side "070836/0029/Eagle WaAXXX/P.38".

Condition: Very fine with 80% plus of the original blue finish overall. Edge and high spot wear overall with finish loss on the muzzle area, front edges of the slide and front grip strap. The grips are very fine with nice checkering and markings on both sides, with only light wear and handling marks. The holster is excellent with nice black color overall, tight stitching and visible markings. As noted this rare early Zero Series P.38 pistol has all matching numbers and includes both magazines.

Unique Alloy Frame Model HP P.38 Semi-Automatic Pistol with Military Proofs and Beautiful Carved Wal

Lot # 1385 (Sale Order: 386 of 952)

Unique Alloy Frame Model HP P.38 Semi-Automatic Pistol with Military Proofs and Beautiful Carved Walnut Grips

This is an unusual example of a very early WWII Walther commercial "HP" P.38 pistol. It was manufactured with an all alloy frame and lanyard loop on the side. These early experimental/alloy frame P.38 pistols were manufactured in extremely small numbers, mostly in the early serial number range of 2,300-2,345 and again in the serial number block of 6,301-7,250. Any existing P.38 in those blocks is considered extremely rare as very few were actually manufactured with only a few documented examples even know to exist today. The real enigma on this specific pistol, is that it falls into a late production commercial serial number range of "15365". That places this pistol as being manufactured in early 1942 within the standard commercial HP pistols, only this example also carries a military proofed slide. The other very interesting feature of this pistol is the fact that it has an early experimental cast and machined horseshoe shaped sear that has been etched with a "Eagle/359" Waffenamt proof on the left side. Since this falls into such a very late production range this pistol may be a one of one special order or late Wehrmacht experimental pistol ordered/manufactured by the Walther factory. The reason for the scarcity is because these early alloy frames had a tendency to crack with large amounts of shooting, especially when chambered in the 9mm cartridge. A similar cracking problem developed in the later post-WWII "P1" military P.38 pistols and to remedy this Walther installed a hardened steel pin through the side of the frame to reinforce the front area and to take up the stress from the locking block area. This example remains in its original, unaltered condition with the early machined out frame well. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther Banner followed by the two line factory legend and caliber markings followed by "Mod HP". The serial number 15365 is located on the right side of the frame, the front of the barrel lug and the top right side of the slide rail, and an additional number "35" stamped on the very front edge on the right side of the barrel lug. The bottom of the locking block is stamped "365". The underside of the front barrel lug is also stamped with an early small "ac" proof stamp. This rare example is stamped with the "Eagle/N" commercial proofmark on the right side of the barrel, locking block and frame. It has the "Eagle/359" Waffenamt/military proof on the right side of the slide. As noted this example has the early style machined front frame well and it has been fitted with a set of magnificently carved acorn and oak leaf motif walnut grip panels.

Condition: Fine with 30% of a thinning blue finish on the slide and barrel with the alloy frame still in the original Walther factory in the white finish. The frame was never anodized or coated. Mechanically excellent.

Extraordinary World War II Walther Factory Relief Engraved Cased Presentation Model PPK Pistol with

Lot # 1392 (Sale Order: 393 of 952)

Extraordinary World War II Walther Factory Relief Engraved Cased Presentation Model PPK Pistol with Documentation

This is a beautiful example of a documented, and certainly one of a kind cased Walther Presentation Model PPK pistol that was reportedly made for Reich Marshall Herman Goering. This beautiful pistol is accompanied with a notarized Certificate of Retention and Custom Declaration, along with a signed letter of explanation from 2nd Lt. Weisenberger who obtained this specific pistol directly from the then Walther plant manager Conrad Mueller in May/June 1945. At this time Lt. Weisenberger was assigned as a Captured Materials Officer assigned specifically to the Walther Plant to inspect and seize any appropriate war materials for the U.S. During his assignment at the factory Lt. Weisenberger was given a plant tour by Conrad Mueller and at the end of his tour Herr Mueller gave this pistol to Lt Weisenberger stating that it was illegal for him to have it and he wanted the pistol to go from a "German to a German Descendent". He additionally stated that this pistol was manufactured/engraved specifically for "Herman Goering" in early 1945, however the war ended before the Walther factory could actually present this pistol to Fieldmarschall Goering. This specific pistol has been beautifully engraved in a very non-traditional deep-relief grape leaves and vine engraving pattern that covers the entire pistol to include the sides of the trigger, trigger guard bow and even the flat base plate of the magazine. The engraving is just fantastic in its layout and meticulous level of detail on the grape leaves and vines. Certainly this pistol would have been engraved by a senior Walther Master Engraver whose skill would be emblematic of Fieldmarschall Goering rank and status in the Nazi party. In viewing the various engraved Walther PPs and PPks shown in Volume II, of "Walther, Engraved, Presentation and Standard Pistols" by Rankin; in this describer's opinion nothing in that book even comes close to the exquisite detailed level of engraving of this exceptional pistol. Obviously this pistol was pulled directly from the production line and sent to the Walther engraver and was not a standard PPK as there is no standard Walther slide legend or markings on either side. The left side of the slide is deeply engraved with only "WALTHER" in a traditional banner. The right side of the slide and frame also shows no serial number which has been hand engraved "210968 K" on the lower right frame strap under the grip with the last three digits "968" correctly scratched on the inside of the slide. The right side of the chamber area, slide and muzzle all have a standard "Eagle/N" Nazi proof mark. The slide is fitted with the standard sights and the 60 degree safety. It is fitted with a set of mottled brown plastic checkered grips with the reinforced metal strap on the back sides and has an all blue finish. It is complete with an original leather bound Walther marked factory presentation case that has a light red velvet interior which holds the pistol, three nickel plated "RWS" marked dummy cartridges, a spare magazine with the brown finger extension and a nickel plated cleaning rod. Authentication, James Rankin collection.

Condition: Excellent with 99% of the original factory blue finish with no visible wear, with the breech face still in the white showing no apparent firing. The grips are excellent with just a hint of warpage on the lower front edges. The case and various accessories are all excellent. An exceptional and rare and very unique cased Walther model PPK that reportedly was to be a Herman Goering Presentation pistol. The extremely high quality of embellishment found on this pistol undoubtedly adds merit to the aforementioned statement!

Massive Inscribed Historic Hitler Presentation to Goring Sterling Silver Platter with Gem Decoration

Lot # 1393 (Sale Order: 394 of 952)

Massive Inscribed Historic Hitler Presentation to Goring Sterling Silver Platter with Gem Decoration

Measuring two feet across, the center of this platter is dominated by a scene of the Conversion of Saint Hubertus. Like most European nobility, Hubertus, son of the Duke of Aquitane, was an avid hunter, a hobby which turned to an obsession following the loss of his wife during childbirth, with some accounts stating that he had descended not only to poaching but to just killing animals for practice. Legend has it that one Sunday, taking advantage of everyone being at Church, he proceeded into the woods only to be confronted by a massive stag with a brilliant crucifix positioned between its antlers and a voice from the heavens commanding him to either go to Lambert, Bishop of Masstricht, for instruction or prepare himself for the fires of hell. Hubertus, armed with a crossbow, is seen on this platter looking across a small brook to see the mighty stag, with one key variation; in accordance with National Socialist tradition, Hubertus is staring in awe not at a crucifix, but at a "sunwheel" pattern swastika, effectively hybridizing symbols of the German Hunters Association and the Luftwaffe, both organizations headed by Hermann Goering. The level of detail in the scene is very high, with the individually engraved leaves framing a wide cross section of German small game, including a perched eagle on the left tree framing the stag (a near copy of the resting eagle seen on the Luftwaffe "Retired Aviator" badge), and a small shield leaning against the tree on the right, bearing the symbol of a mailed right arm holding a ring aloft, Goering's personal crest. Around the rim is a two line inscription, divided by a pair of swastikas, "Die Treue ist das Mark der Ehre" (Honor is the Mark of Loyalty) and "Reichsjaegerhof Romintern" (Reichs Hunting Lodge Romintern), with the second line broken by a "HG" monogram with oak leaf accents. Built in 1936, Romintern was Goering's chief hunting lodge built as a more rustic copy of his "Carinhall" estate. Finally, completing the rim is a 1 1/8 inch wide border decorated with a series of 94 individually engraved raised three dimensional oak leaves with acorns spread in clusters among 28 round and oval emeralds and 44 similarly carved and shaped pieces of amber. On the back of the platter is the mark "ZEITLER/BERLIN" of Professor Herbert Zeitner, top gold and silversmith of the Third Reich along the bottom of the rim with the "925" purity mark and "HZ" hallmark, the German Worker's Front hammer icon over "ENTWURF-NS-HAGO/HANDARBEIT" handwork on the bottom of the bowl, and the inscription "Meine alten Parteigenossen/Hermann Goring/dem Schirmherren des Deutschen Tierschutzgesetzes/in Anerkennung zugeeignet/Weihnachten 1940/Adolph Hitler" (My old Party Comrade/Hermann Goering/the Guardian of the German Animal Protection Law/in Dedicated Recognition/Christmas 1940/Adolph Hitler) over the replicated signature of Hitler. In his role as the Prussian Minister of the Interior, Goring spearheaded a number of animal protection acts including the first European ban of vivisection, as well as the Reichstierschutzgesetz (Reich Animal Protection Act), which gave a then-unprecedented level of protection from abuse to German wildlife, going so far as to threaten would-be violators with being thrown into a concentration camp. While Hitler, reportedly a vegetarian, and Goering, a prolific killer of wild game, had their own reasons for supporting these laws, Hitler still saw them as some of Goering's finest work in the legal field. At the time this platter would have been presented, Christmas Eve of 1940, Nazi Germany was nearing the peak of it's power and prestige, with France and Belgium beneath Hitler's thumb, Eastern Europe claimed by the Wehrmacht, Axis troops marching across Mediterranean Africa, Japan making early strides against the Americans in the Pacific and Goring's Luftwaffe set to deliver the heart of Great Britain and the promised "lebensraum" of Russia right into the Nazi's hands. It was also the beginning of the end; Operation Barbarossa's early successes in the face of Stalin's "scorched earth" retreat would soon give way to a horrible, multi-year meat grinder of brutal combat, with the Luftwaffe not able to keep the Ostfront supplied or suppress the Royal Air Force, bringing the Battle of Britain to a close and ending Operation Sea-lion before it could begin, while the Americans, less intimidated and more outraged by Hitler's chiefly symbolic declaration of war, promptly went from merely providing material to the Allies to procecuting a two-front war in their own right. As the situation continued to degenerate, Romintern, the lodge this platter was made to adorn, became Goering's refuge from the reality of the war, with the Luftwaffe suffering painful losses while failing to keep the Soviets out of Eastern Europe and the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces from gut

Impressively Large Ruby Ring Produced by Top Third Reich Jeweler Professor Herbert Zeitner Bearing t

Lot # 1394 (Sale Order: 395 of 952)

Impressively Large Ruby Ring Produced by Top Third Reich Jeweler Professor Herbert Zeitner Bearing the Symbols of Reichsmarschall and Luftwaffe Chief Hermann Goering

Constructed from 18 carat gold around a large radiant cut ruby measuring approximately 3/4 of an inch wide and 7/8 of an inch long, this ring has a number of features that suggest it was produced by Herbert Zeitner, top gold and silversmith in Nazi Germany to be worn by Hermann Goering. First rising to prominence as one of Imperial Germany's "Uberkanonen" (ace pilot with 22 kills) during the First World War, Goering became one of Hitler's right hand men in the early 1920's, serving as Chief of the uniformed SA and taking a bullet to the leg during the Munich "Beer Hall Putsch". Evading capture until an amnesty was declared in 1927, he returned to hold one of the NSDAP's seats in the Reichstag, taking on a number of roles in the Party as it rose in power and prestige. Among other actions, he founded the Gestapo, which would later be traded away to Himmler's SS, served as Minister of the Interior of Prussia, and oversaw the creation of the Luftwaffe as well as German rearmament. Like many of the top Nazi men, Goering had a craving for power, and took many steps to expand his portfolio, working his way up to the title of Reich Marshal of the Greater German Reich. Unlike some other Nazis, Goering craved the trappings of power and authority almost as much as the power itself; in contrast to the austere yet carefully engineered public appearance of Hitler, Goering draped himself in as much finery as he could, a bewildering array of medals, furs, ornaments, daggers and jewelry, as well as indulging in high class pursuits, hunting in particular. In addition to his other roles in the Nazi power structure, he also positioned himself as the top hunting authority in the Reich, and as the situation degenerated for Nazi Germany as a whole and for Goering and his Luftwaffe in particular he invested more and more of himself into the hunt, retreating from the realities of the imminent loss of the war and the end of the Thousand Year Reich. Each side of the ring shows a raised engraved design, with one side bearing a conjoined "HG" monogram with traditional German-style oak leaf embellishment and the reverse bearing the German Hunter's Association logo, a ribbon marked "DJ" (Deutsche Jaeger Verein) beneath the head of a multi-point stag, a radiant swastika positioned between the antlers, an old symbol of Saint Hubertus, patron saint of hunting, one of many symbols repurposed and defaced by the Nazis. The inside bottom of the band is marked with a small "Z" in a circle, a marking attributed to the goldsmith Professor Zeitner. While positive confirmation of a piece of Goering jewelry can be difficult, a number of pictures of Goering wearing a ring that could be this one survived the Nazi era, and many foreign diplomats who interacted with him felt the need to comment on the large red gemstone he was wearing on his finger, above and beyond all the other decorations he would bear into a high profile meeting.

Condition: Very fine overall, showing moderate wear and a few light handling marks. The stone is attractively cut and the engraving is sharply executed. An especially scarce and impressive piece of Nazi regalia, connected to one of the most notorious members of the Nazi Party, worthy of a top place in any private or museum collection.
