Unique DWM Model 1908 Commercial Navy Proofed Luger Pistol

Lot # 1452 (Sale Order: 453 of 952)

Unique DWM Model 1908 Commercial Navy Proofed Luger Pistol

This is an excellent example of a very scarce DWM Model 1908 German Navy Luger. These Lugers were all manufactured in the standard 1908 Commercial serial number range that were pressed into Navy service. During the expansion of the Imperial German Navy prior to 1914, the Navy ran out of serviceable Lugers to issue to the new fleets. As such they recalled Lugers from many of the sea going fleets to reissue to the standard warships. With their navy contracts with DWM already completed, they literally ran out of Lugers to issue. In their haste to find suitable Lugers they purchased approximately 300 1908 commercial Lugers, reproofed them with the standard Crown/M Navy proofs and issued them. In all respects they appear as standard 1908 commercial Lugers. The chamber area is blank and the front toggle has the standard "DWM" logo. The left side of the barrel extension as noted has the single "Crown/M" proofmark with the standard "Crown/N" commercial proofs. A magazine hold-open has been installed. It is correctly numbered in the commercial fashion. It is complete with a correct nickel plated magazine with a blank wooden base. A very unusual and very scarce 1908 Navy Commercial Luger pistol.

Condition: Excellent with 97% of the blue finish with edge and high spot wear. The various small parts retain 60% of a fading straw colors. The grips are excellent with nice distinct checkering on both sides, showing even honest wear overall. As noted this rare Luger has all matching numbers except the magazine.

Rare Canadian Ross Prototype Self-Loading Semi-Automatic Rifle

Lot # 1463 (Sale Order: 464 of 952)

Rare Canadian Ross Prototype Self-Loading Semi-Automatic Rifle

This is really a one of kind prototype self-loading Ross rifle. This unique rifle was developed specifically by Charles Ross circa 1910-1918. Obviously he was one of the numerous companies at this time that was attempting to develop some kind of self-loading semi-automatic rifle for not only the Canadian Commercial market but probably for future Government sales. Based on the overall configuration of the rile you can certainly tell its lineage, as the complete trigger guard, box magazine, barrel, barrel bands and forward section of this rifle is exactly like the Canadian Ross MKIII rifles. The complete action/receiver section is a all new design effort. The written documentation provided by the consignor notes that this rifle was developed in the 1910 time frame specifically by Sir Charles Ross. During the WWI time frame he brought this rifle to the Savage Arms company for further testing/evaluation. It remained with the Savage Arms, R&D department until 1946 when it was sold to one of the Savage production Engineers, prior to the move by the company from Utica NY to Chicopee Falls, Mass. This rifle is a very large and complex rifle design employs a brass vertical locking block mechanism similar to the later 1921 Thompson SMG and also has a similar appearance to the later 1918 Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) designed by John Browning. The only markings on the rifle are the serial number on the barrel which is "HG15238", which was probably associated with the original MKII/III Ross rifle, where those parts came from. Certainly a very interesting early Ross Rifle Company Prototype design that would be worth doing more research on.

Condition: Very good with the barrel and barrel bands retaining 95% of their blue finish with the receiver/complete action in the white, showing some machining marks in various areas. The stock, forend and handguard are all good. A very unique and certainly rare one of a kind Canadian Ross Prototype rifle. This rifle is complete and has been hand cycled, however since it is a prototype design, it is being listed as a display piece only, not in shooting condition.

Scarce World War II Savage British No. 4 MKI (T) Enfield Bolt Action Sniper Rifle with Sling

Lot # 1464 (Sale Order: 465 of 952)

Scarce World War II Savage British No. 4 MKI (T) Enfield Bolt Action Sniper Rifle with Sling

This is a nice example of a late WWII production British Enfield No 4 MK 1(T) sniper rifle. These rifles were the standard British sniper rifle developed in the late 1930s and used until the early 1960s. This rifle is a No. 4 MKI rifle that was selected for accuracy during production and shipped to Holland & Holland for conversion to sniper configuration. Very few of these Savage rifles were converted to sniper configuration in 1942. The gunsmiths at Holland & Holland carefully bedded the rifle barrel for maximum accuracy, modified the rear sight, installed mounting blocks on the left side of the receiver, fitted the rifle with a No. 32 MKI scope, and fitted a cheekpiece on the stock. The No. 4 MKI (T) is generally considered to be the most accurate and rugged sniper rifle issued by any army during WWII. The right side of the receiver ring is marked "ENGLAND" over a "crown/GP" proofmark. The left side of the butt socket is marked "OC5441" over a U.S. ordnance bomb inspection mark. The left side of the receiver is marked with the square "S" of the Savage Arms Company followed by "No 4 MKI/1942" and the matching serial number is marked on the bolt. The rifle is fitted with the correct No 32 scope that is marked on top of the tube "TEL. STG. No 32 MKI/H.B.M.Co. 09.466A/ REGD NO 3342". The mount is unmarked and the rings are number "13" and "14" on the top on bottom of the right side. The rifle has the standard blade front sight and tangent military rear sight. It is fitted with the correct wartime smooth semi-pistol grip stock with full handguard, correct screw on cheekpiece and steel buttplate with compartment containing a pull through bore cleaner. The underside directly behind the trigger guard is marked with the square "S" followed by crown proof and correctly stamped with the Holland & Holland conversion code "S51" directly behind the pistol grip area. The top of the wrist directly behind the receiver is stamped "3342". The rifle is complete with an original leather sling.

Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 95% arsenal parkerized finish. The wood is also very fine with some scattered minor dents. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The scope is very good with 70% original blue finish remaining with the edge off the optic end and the object end showing bright brass. The adjustment turret retains most of the original black enamel with flaking and a bright appearance on the exposed metal. The optics are clear. The sling is good showing some age and flex cracking. A nice example of a very scarce World War II British sniper rifle.

Exceptionally Rare "One of a Kind" Original Iranian M49 Presentation Carbine Given To the U.S. Naval

Lot # 1466 (Sale Order: 467 of 952)

Exceptionally Rare "One of a Kind" Original Iranian M49 Presentation Carbine Given To the U.S. Naval Attache in 1953

This is an example rare pre-war M49 carbine as manufactured by the Iranian State factory, that was presented as a gift in 1953 by the Iranian Military to Commander Eric Pollard. This carbine and its history is intriguing in that there are accompanying documents, which indicate that as the Naval Attache, Commander Eric Pollard, probably worked for the C.I.A. at that time at the Embassy, and later also served as a "Special Assistant For Counterinsurgency and Special Activities" at the Embassy. During this time he was probably heavily involved with assisting the British in the actual overthrow (coup d'e'tat) of the democratically elected, then Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, and the reestablishment or appointment of General Fazlollah Zahedi as the new Primer Minister of Iran. The consignor also states that Commander Pollard also accompanied the Shah of Iran to Switzerland while this overthrow was taking place to help mask his knowledge of this action. Also accompanying this rifle is a telex (dated 5 Sept 1953) from General Zahedi to the U.S. Ambassador of Iran, in which the General wishes to "Expresses his gratitude for the praiseworthy attitude and efforts (of Commander Pollard) to strengthen the friendly relations between Iran and the U.S.". All this took place while under the Pro-Western regime of the Shah of Iran; Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Remember he was the last Shah (King) of Iran in power in 1979 when he was overthrown by the fundamentalist Muslim group of Clerics headed by Ayatollah Khomeini. Certainly this is not only a very unique, one of a kind carbine, but also a very significant "Cold War" historical carbine. These carbines are fairly rare in their own right with this one being even more rare/desirable in that it has a small silver plaque attached to the right side of the buttstock attesting to it being presented to Commander Pollard. This carbine is accompanied by other documents to support its history, one being a translation of the silver plaque that reads; "Gift of Iranian Imperial Military/Honorable Colonel Commander Arpek Polaro, Naval Attache of the Embassy of American Country in Iran/Tehran 1953/28189". Also with this carbine is some historical information. These carbine are an exact duplicate of the Czech Model 30 carbine only they exhibit all markings in Farsi. The top of the receiver is marked with the large Persian Crest and the left side of the receiver markings (serial number and factory name) are all in Farsi. It has the large military tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters with the milled trigger guard and barrel bands. These carbines have two unique features one is the top handguard that extends from the receiver ring to the front barrel band and the other is an integral set of front sight protectors. The stock and handguard are both the correct beech wood and the right side of the buttstock has the matching Farsi numbers. It is complete with an original cleaning rod under the barrel. This carbine has been given a high polished blue finish overall with a highly polished hardwood stock and handguard, and original sling with bright polished barrel bands and complete bolt assembly.

Condition: Excellent with 98% plus of the original high polish blue finish overall. The stock and handguard are both excellent with a super smooth hand rubbed varnish finish (not sanded). The silver presentation plaque is perfectly inletted into the stock and the screws show no tampering or removal, just like when they were installed. Certainly a very rare, one of a kind, historical Iranian M49 carbine.

Historic Fidel Castro Presentation Cased Makarov Semi-Automatic Pistol with Holster

Lot # 1467 (Sale Order: 468 of 952)

Historic Fidel Castro Presentation Cased Makarov Semi-Automatic Pistol with Holster

The pistol is dated 1972 and the slide is numbered to the gun. The XE serial number prefix indicates this pistol was produced on the separate Makarov production line reserved for special and presentation pistols. Fitted with a wraparound checkered grip. The top left side of the grip has an inscription plaque: "CORONEL E.P./CARLOS DIEZ CANSECO/COMDT. FIDEL CASTRO/25-4-73." At the time of writing this description, the writer could not find a historical record pertaining to the presentation inscription nor could information be found in regards to a Colonel E.P. Carlos Diez Canseco, but the inscription is definitely period and was reserved for a Cuban military officer held in high esteem. Additional research should reveal further interesting history. A Cuban communist revolutionary and politician, Fidel Castro served as the Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976 and then President from 1976 to 2008 and served as the Commander in Chief of the Cuban armed forces from 1959 to 2008. Early in his rise to political domination of Cuba, Castro allied his country with the USSR, which was seen as a threat to the United States. The U.S. governments of Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy unsuccessfully attempted to remove him from power by means of economic blockade, assassination and counter revolution. As a reaction to countering U.S. intervention, Castro allowed the USSR to install nuclear missiles on the island, which resulted in the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. The holster is dated 1972 and there are a total of two magazines and a lanyard. With a presentation wooden case featuring contrasting wood panels on the bottom and top and a Russian birchwood storage box for the case.

Condition: Excellent. The pistol retains 98% original blue finish showing some light thinning on the front grip strap and limited high edge wear. The grip is also excellent with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case and holster are excellent. A true historical record of one of the most influential/successful dictators of the 20th Century!

Documented Historic/Notorious One-of-A-Kind Saddam Hussein's Personal Ruger M77 Bolt Action Mannlich

Lot # 1468 (Sale Order: 469 of 952)

Documented Historic/Notorious One-of-A-Kind Saddam Hussein's Personal Ruger M77 Bolt Action Mannlicher Rifle as Shown on Numerous Newsreels with Affidavit

What a unique example of the most notable and certainly historic One-of-a-Kind rifles that actually belonged to Saddam Hussein and was the one used ceremoniously in numerous worldwide newsreels shown on national TV. This brutal dictator needs NO introduction to the American people, as he is one of the most despised and hated Middle East leaders of the 20/21st Century. This exceptional rifle is accompanied by several signed documents attesting to the historical background of this unique rifle and its ultimate capture/surrender in March 2004. The rifle in all respects is a standard M77 with standard features and markings, obviously originally made by the Sturm-Ruger Company in January 1988. The only additional features is that the top of the barrel has been nicely engraved in Arabic with his name of the date of presentation (probably done out side of the factory after delivery). The factory would not disclose who initially purchased this rifle, however it is clear and well documented where it ended up. The assumption is that this rifle, like the presentation FN Browning High power pistol we also have in this auction, was initially purchased by an individual in the U.S., made its way to the Middle East and was presented to Hussein as a gift, probably from the Saudi Royal Family as they had significant ties to the Hussein regime. This rifle is also accompanied by several written and signed documents verifying that this rifle was actually taken from the rubble of the Presidential Palace in Mosul by a group of the Sufi Islamic militia that later turned it over to a C.I.A. officer in March 2004. The rifle was eventually transported to the CIA Headquarters, where it was retained until the current consignor received it as an honorarium for his 29 years of Clandestine Service for the CIA. During his tenure in the CIA, he served in various tours of duty throughout the world, as the senior CIA officer in Baghdad, Iraq. Also included are a list of his accomplishments and awards, as well as two other affidavits detailing when and how this rifle was acquiring by the CIA, with the eventual deacquisition from the CIA and transfer from the CIA to the current consignor. A very unique and historic rifle that really belongs in a US Military Museum!

Condition: Very fine with 95% of the original factory blue finish overall. The stock is also original and retains 98% of the original finish with handling marks and minor pressure dents and dings on the sides of the buttstock. An impeccably well documented historic rifle that once belonged to one of the most known bad guys of recent times, the late Saddam Hussein!

Historic Documented Browning High Power Presentation Pistol Belonging to Iraqi General Hussein Kamal

Lot # 1469 (Sale Order: 470 of 952)

Historic Documented Browning High Power Presentation Pistol Belonging to Iraqi General Hussein Kamal and Engraved by Ken Hurst with Provenance

This is a unique historical Iraqi General Presentation Browning High Power pistol, which was also fully engraved by the well known Master Engraver Ken Hurst. This pistol is accompanied by several signed documents attesting to the historical background of this fabulous pistol. It was originally made by the FN Herstal factory in Belgium in late 1980 and sold in April 1981 by their US distributor Browning Arms Morgan, Utah to a representative of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia, through Udisco, Salt Lake City, Utah. The Saudi Official had it shipped directly to Ken Hurst in North Carolina where he fully engraved it with a floral pattern that covers 98% of the metal surface with a heavy punch-dot back ground. He also personally engraved the name "Hussein Kamal" on the back grip strap. Mr. Hurst stamped his name "K. HURST" on the lower right side of the frame under the grip panel. The assumption is that the pistol was then presented by the Royal Saudi Family to then General Hussein Kamal al-Majid, son in law to President Saddam Hussein (married to Raghad Hussein). The General was a very significant individual, as he was head of their Nuclear, Chemical and Biological weapons program from 1987 to 1994. He along with his brother, Lt Col. Hussein Saddam Kamel Hassan al-Majid (and their wives, both daughters to Saddam Hussein) defected to Jordan in August 1995 with crates of secret documents on the Chemical weapons factory in Iraqi. However in Jan 1996 both brothers and their wives returned to Iraq under the guise that the Government had reformed, and upon their return both wives divorced them and both brothers were later shot in a gun battle with their own family who said the family had been disgraced. Obviously this pistol stayed in Iraq until it was later captured by a group of Iraqi insurgents during the aftermath of the fall of the Iraqi Government. The pistol was eventually obtained by the CIA in Iraq during the post Iraq invasion where it sent to the CIA headquarters in the U.S. and was later acquired (Nov 2009) as an honorarium by the former senior CIA officer in Baghdad, Iraq. Along with this pistol are a written/signed Affidavit of Provenance from the former CIA Station Chief, who acquired this pistol outlining his 29 years of service and various tours of duty through out the world, along with his accomplishments and awards. A Browning Arms factory letter, dated Jan 2013, listing when it was manufactured, a complete and with two other affidavits detailing when it was acquiring by the CIA with the eventual deacquisition from the CIA and transfer from the CIA to the CIA Station Chief.

Condition: Very fine as master embellished with 99% of the factory/engraver applied nickel plate with all the beautiful and exquisitely detailed hand engraving intact. The grips are also excellent with nice sharp detailed checkering on both sides and only minor handling marks. A beautiful and very historic pistol acquired during one of the most difficult times in recent American History.

Very Rare Late War ac/45 Walther Dual Code K/G43 Rifle with Sling

Lot # 1471 (Sale Order: 472 of 952)

Very Rare Late War ac/45 Walther Dual Code K/G43 Rifle with Sling

The Dual code G/K43 rifle is one of the late last ditch efforts by the Walther factory to use early receiver forgings for rifle assembly. These rifles were all early Walther manufactured forgings that had been declared unsuitable for use however towards the end of the war, these standards were relaxed and many receiver forgings were reclaimed and used in late 1945 production. These receivers were usually associated with the BLM production from France however this one is only proofed by the Walther factory Eagle 359, (but still is a cosmetically machined forging). The left side of the receiver is marked with an Eagle 359 proof, K43, ac/45, G43 and the serial number with no letter code, with the right side having the integral scope mounting rail. Hooded blade front sight and adjustable tangent rear sight graduated 1-12. The bolt carrier is a type three version, rough cast with reinforcing ribs on the end with the bolt hold-open latch and hollow cocking knob. An "eagle/359" proof over the matching serial number are marked just below the cocking knob. The stock and handguard are the correct late war laminated versions, on the left side of the stock there is a single Eagle 359 proof below the sling slot, a smaller one in the pistol grip area and one on the lower stock in front of the buttplate. It has the original spare parts packet in the butt trap. It is complete with a late war unmarked brown cross-hatched leather sling, a blue cleaning rod and rubber muzzle cover.

Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 98% original phosphate/parkerized metal finish. The stock and handguard are excellent with only some very minor handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically fine. An extremely rare and desirable rifle in any condition. These rifles were manufactured in extremely limited numbers and saw heavy use in the final stages of the war
