Rare 1936 Mauser Banner Siamese Contract Pistol with Matching Magazine

Lot # 1484 (Sale Order: 485 of 952)

Rare 1936 Mauser Banner Siamese Contract Pistol with Matching Magazine

This is an exceptionally rare 1936 dated Mauser Banner Commercial Contract Luger for Siam, now called Thailand. This is probably one of the best Siamese Contract Mauser Banner Lugers we have ever seen. These are an extremely scarce Luger as there were only 450 total produced for this contract and of that number, only 350 were the short barrel model. Only a very few of these lugers were ever available on the market until 1981/82 when 61 Artillery models and approximately 75 short barreled models were imported in the U.S., with most being in fair condition due to years of use in the tropical heat and humidity. These P08 Lugers were all produced in 1936/37 in several different serial number ranges with this specific pistol being produced in the first block of 59 pistols. These were a standard Mauser Banner contract model that had the rear of the frame marked with the Siam Police, Lions Head Crest next to a property number. The chamber is dated 1936 with the standard Mauser Banner logo on the front toggle assembly. It has the early commercial "Crown/U" proof mark on the barrel extension and breech block, with the correct Siam markings on the rear of frame. This rare luger is complete with one matching, blued magazine with an aluminum base that is marked: "4049/v/Eagle/63". There is a very small, barely noticeable import mark (DIN, ALEX, V) present on the underside lower frame area directly in front of the upper trigger guard bow.

Condition: Very fine with 90% of the slightly faded blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The small parts retain 40% of their original straw colors overall. The grips are in near excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides, showing some minor nicks/chips in the tops of the checkering. An extremely scarce Mauser Banner contract Luger pistol, with all matching numbers to include the magazine.

Lot # 1485 (Sale Order: 486 of 952)

Desirable DWM Model 1906-20 Swiss Contract Luger Pistol with Holster

This is a very nice example of an early Swiss Commercial Luger that falls within the serial number range and letter suffix (i) of those sold by the Abercrombie and Fitch Co. in New York. These were early commercial Lugers intended for sale in Switzerland, however with the huge early demand in the U.S., DWM diverted a small quantity from the Swiss contract to their U.S. agent; Abercrombie & Fitch Co. in New York. Although not specifically marked, this early Luger does have the short frame, 1906 style grip safety, no stock lug and is correctly marked "GELADEN" on the extractor, with the first pattern, polished lower safety area on the frame. The chamber is marked with the standard "Swiss Cross in a Sunburst" which indicates a commercial contract Luger and the front toggle has the DWM markings. The front of the frame stamped with the serial number "2879i", with "2879" stamped on the barrel and barrel extension with the last two digits "82" stamped on the small parts. It is complete with an unmarked nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base. It is complete with a unmarked Swiss military style, brown leather holster with the original shoulder straps.

Condition: Excellent with 97% of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear overall. The various small parts retain 80% of their straw colors. The grips are also in excellent condition overall with nice distinct checkering with minor handling marks. The holster is also in very good condition with a nice medium brown color with minor age cracking on top of the flap with rub marks and finish loss on the back side and lower toe area.

World War II Nazi 1940 Dated Mauser Banner Luger Pistol

Lot # 1486 (Sale Order: 487 of 952)

World War II Nazi 1940 Dated Mauser Banner Luger Pistol

This is a representative example of a 1940 Dated Mauser Banner Commercial Luger pistol rig that may have been intended as a Police luger. The top of the chamber area is stamped 1940 for the year of manufacture with the large Mauser/Banner logo on the front toggle. The barrel extension does not have the normal Police proofs, however it does have the small spring about the side plate, with no other sear safety parts of modifications, which may indicate that this pistol was originally intended as a Police contract pistol, that was diverted to Commercial sales instead. The right side of the barrel extension and breech bolt does have the Nazi "Eagle/N" commercial proofmarks, however there are no other proofs anywhere. The full serial number "1957x" is stamped on the front of the frame with "1957" stamped and the left side of the barrel extension, but not on the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number "57" are stamped on the various small parts. The pistol has a salt blue finish and checkered walnut grips. This Luger rig is complete with two, type two Police magazines, that have the unmarked, blued, magazine bodies with aluminum bases possibly depot marked: "1/1957/x" and "2/1957/x" respectively. It is complete with a black leather Police holster, with an unreadable marked on the back: "S.W. II 156/43"

Condition: Very fine with 90% of the blue finish remaining overall, with wear on the edges and high spots with light thinning on the grip straps, mixed with some scattered very minor surface rust spots starting to appear on the grips straps. The grips are in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering mixed with some very minor light nicks on the tops of some of the checkered diamonds. The holster is in good condition with clear markings on the back with the pull strap and belt loops having an old wartime repair. As noted this early luger has all matching numbers to include both magazines.

These "G" Navy Lugers are extremely rare and very seldom seen as they saw heavy use for almost 8 long years of war with many being lost at sea. The chamber has the distinctive "G" markings indicating that it was produced in 1935 with the front grip strap correctly professionally restamped "Eagle M/N/1410", indicating it was a North Sea issue Luger. The front toggle has the correct "S/42" Mauser code. The right side of the barrel extension has the double "Eagle/63" proofs next to the early drooped wing Mauser firing proof. It is correctly numbered in the military manner with the full serial number (2516f) stamped on the front of the frame with (2516) stamped on the barrel and barrel extension. It is complete with two type one nickel plated magazines with aluminum bases, which are marked "N/1410/2516/f/Eagle/63" and "N/1410/x/2516/+/Eagle 63" proof respectively. This scarce Luger is complete with an original early issue Navy marked holster. The back side is marked "NYPPEL & BORNS/HANNOVER/1936" over a single "Eagle/M" Navy proofmark.

Condition: Fine as partially restored with 60% of the faded blue finish remaining overall with edge and high spot wear overall with thinning and oxidation of the blue on the grip straps. There is a small section of light pitting on the left side of the front sight base. The small parts retain 50% of their straw colors overall. The replacement grips are very fine, but do not fit well. The holster is also in very fine condition with a nice even color overall with tight stitching showing heavier age cracking on the lower toe of the holster. mixed with minor handling marks on the flap. The markings are clear and distinct.

Late Production 1912 Dated DWM Model 1908 Military Contract Imperial German Luger Pistol

Lot # 1493 (Sale Order: 494 of 952)

Late Production 1912 Dated DWM Model 1908 Military Contract Imperial German Luger Pistol

This is an excellent example of a late production pre-WWI DWM Model 1908 military contract German Luger manufactured in the first serial number range without any letter suffix. This series of Luger was produced from 1908 to late 1913 in both the military and commercial variants and can easily be distinguished from the later 1914/P.08 Lugers by the lack of the hold-open device and no stock lug. The top of the chamber area is dated 1912, with the standard DWM markings on the front toggle assembly. This Luger is numbered in the standard military fashion, with the standard "Crown over Script Letter" proofmarks, next to the Imperial Eagle firing proof. It was also later modified to add the hold open device which was performed on 1908 Model Lugers, in the 1913-1918 time frame and into the Weimar era. It has the original walnut checkered grips and is fitted with an original WWI era, nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base. This Luger features a rust blued finish with the straw colored small parts and checkered walnut grips.

Condition: Very fine with professionally refinished grip straps with the balance of gun retaining most of the original blue finish with wedge and high spot wear overall, with 90% of the refurbished straw colors on the various small parts. The grips are also in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides, with some minor wear across the tops of the checkering. Mechanically excellent. This excellent early Luger has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above.
