Scarce Post World War II Krieghoff Luger Pistol

Lot # 1505 (Sale Order: 506 of 952)

Scarce Post World War II Krieghoff Luger Pistol

This is a very early post-WWII Krieghoff Luger pistol as assembled in 1945. The later Krieghoff pistols were termed "PX" Lugers as they were assembled/produced for sales to the GIS in the German run PXs. This specific pistol is totally void of any serial number except the rear toggle which is numbered "73", and has only two proof marks; a single "Eagle/2" firing proof on the underside of the barrel and a late 1944, Luftwaffe 2nd style "Eagle 2" acceptance/inspection proof mark on the right side of the barrel extension; both indicative of left over parts found in the factory that were assembled into this pistol, probably by GIS at the time the plant taken over by the Allies. It is fitted with a set of earlier brown checkered Mauser type plastic grips are unmarked on the back sides. There is no magazine with this Luger and it has a dark all salt blued type finish to include the smaller parts that were typically straw colored.

Condition: Arsenal refurbished with 98% of the dull blued finish overall showing minor edge wear only. A fairly unique early post-war assembled Luger pistol.

1936 Dated S/42 Code Mauser Luger Pistol with Scarce "Hza 18" Depot Proof, and 1936 Dated Holster

Lot # 1506 (Sale Order: 507 of 952)

1936 Dated S/42 Code Mauser Luger Pistol with Scarce "Hza 18" Depot Proof, and 1936 Dated Holster

This is a nice example of a early pre-WWII Mauser Luger pistol manufactured by the Mauser factory in 1936 that has one of the rare/scarce "Eagle/Hza. J.L. 18" proofed barrel extension. This is a HEERESZEUGAMT(Army Quartermaster Office) proof that represents a German Army equipment depot. This usually indicates that this weapon was marked for issuance or rework at Army Depot 18 and in many instances these weapons were intended as replacement for weapons lost or damaged during battle. The chamber is dated "1936" and the front toggle has the wartime code of "S/42", for the Mauser factory. The right side barrel extension has the proof noted above next to a double "Eagle/63" Waffenamt proof along with the single Eagle firing proof. It is numbered in the military fashion with the full serial number (1836) on the major components with the last two digits stamped on the various small parts. It is complete with one blue unmarked magazine with an aluminum base that is stamped with only a single number "2". This early Luger is complete with a 1936 dated brown leather holster, stamped on the back "SCHAMBACH & Co./BERLIN/1936" over an "Eagle/WaA94" Waffenamt proof.

Condition: Very fine as partially refurbished with 80% of the faded blued finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots, with thinning on the front grip strap with the rear grip strap having the stock lug ground off and refinished. The small parts retain, 25% of their straw colors overall. The walnut grips are in very good condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides showing honest original wear across the tops of the checkering. The holster is in very fine condition with nice medium brown color overall, showing light wear on top of the flap and the lower toe area with nice tight, white stitching and clear distinct markings on the back. This Luger has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above. A very desirable prewar Luger with a scarce Depot issue/rework proof mark.

Rare Bergmann-MARS Model 1903 Semi Automatic Pistol

Lot # 1508 (Sale Order: 509 of 952)

Rare Bergmann-MARS Model 1903 Semi Automatic Pistol

This is an exceptionally rare and very early Bergmann-Mars Model 1903 pistol manufactured under contract for the German Government. It is estimated that fewer than 1,000 of the early semi-automatic pistols were ever produced. The Danish Government was the primary user, with an extremely limited number manufactured under the German contract. This example is easily identified as a German version based on the "Crown/Crown U" proofs. The top of the barrel extension is marked "BERGMANN/MARS/PAT.BREV./S.G.D.G.". As noted this scarce example has the single German "Crown/Crown/U" firing and acceptance proofs on the left side of the frame above the magazine release, the top of the rear section of the bolt, top of the breech end of the barrel and top of the chamber area of the barrel extension. It has a detachable box magazine numbered "308" with checkered walnut grips numbered "45" and "14".

Condition: Very fine with 97% of a possibly old professional restoration. The grip panels are both very fine with nice matching color on both sides with sharp checking. The markings and proofs are clear and it has matching visible numbers except the magazine and the left grip as noted above. An extremely rare and difficult pistol to locate in any condition.

Scarce Nazi Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Case and Ribbon

Lot # 1517 (Sale Order: 518 of 952)

Scarce Nazi Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Case and Ribbon

Introduced in 1939, The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was the 3rd combat valor decoration in the Iron Cross line, ranking above the 2nd and 1st Class Iron Crosses. Though later variants of the Knight's Cross would outrank it, for a time the Knight's Cross was the highest combat decoration in the Third Reich, and (with rare exceptions) only available to men who had already seen enough combat to earn the 2nd and 1st Class Iron Crosses. Measuring 1 7/8 inches across and 2 1/8 inches tall, the front bears a swastika over "1939", with "1813" on the rear, black painted interior and uncovered silver border with "800" and a sideways "2" stamped on the rear just below the hanging ring and "800" on the silver hanger. The Cross comes in a black leatherette case with white silk and black velvet lining, along with a red, white and black neck ribbon.

Condition: Excellent. The black enamel shows a few light flakes, with an aged patina showing in patches on the silver, highlighted by bright edges. The case shows some minor wear with hinge cover lifting slightly.

Two Cased Nazi-Era German Crosses in Gold, One Inscribed to a Commander of the SS Volunteer Sturmbri

Lot # 1518 (Sale Order: 519 of 952)

Two Cased Nazi-Era German Crosses in Gold, One Inscribed to a Commander of the SS Volunteer Sturmbrigade Wallonien, A.K.A.. The 28th SS Volunteer Grenadier Division Wallonien

Introduced in 1941, the German Cross in Gold was the next valor award up from the Iron Cross First Class, given for repeated acts of battlefield bravery. While widely issued within the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS to Germans, rewards to outsiders are believed to number less than 100. Each medal comes in a black leatherette case with white silk and black velvet inner lining. 1) German Cross in Gold, numbered "4" on the pin and inscribed "Lucien Lippert/20.02.44" on the back. Born in 1913 in Luxembourg, Lippert was an officer in the Belgian armed forces before taking over the 373. (Wallonische) Infanterie Battalion, a Belgian Walloon formation. The 373 would be transferred from the Heer to the Waffen-SS, becoming the 5th SS Volunteer Sturmbrigade Wallonien, which participated actively in combat on the Eastern Front. On the 13th of February, 1944, while performing rear guard duty for German forces attempting to escape the Korsun-Cherkassy Pocket, Lippert was killed in action. Following his demise, he was posthumously awarded the German Cross in Gold and promoted to SS-Obersturmbannfuehrer. The 5th Sturmbrigade would later be combined with the Spanish Blue Division and the Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism to become the 28th SS Volunteer Grenadier Division Wallonien, which participated in multiple attempts to hold back the Soviet advance before finally escaping West to surrender to the British. 2) German Cross in Gold, numbered "1" on the pin, otherwise unmarked.

Condition: Both are in very fine condition, with mild wear on the high edges. The case for #2 is stained on the silk, and both some minor wear and tear.
