Engraved J. Purdey Side by Side 15 Bore Percussion Shotgun
Lot # 394 (Sale Order: 390 of 1256)
The included barrel set is currently incompatible and is marked "J. PURDEY, PRINCES STREET, LEICESTER SQUARE, LONDON" on top of the rib. The barrels were made by Charles Lancaster for Purdey and appear to have serial number "J86" on the bottom. A factory letter is included that notes that the "C.L." markings are for Charles Lancaster "who was well known for his very fine barrels and he made barrels for Purdey's..." The letter also notes that the Princes Street address on the barrels was Purdey's first address from 1814 to 1825. They indicate the "J86" would not be the Purdey serial number and incorrectly believed the "15" bore marking was the serial number based on the information they were provided. Other guns configured similarly to the gun itself with Purdey's external intercepting sears and the Wyatt patent grip safety date to around 1825-1830. Also included is a powder flask, a shot flask, and a copy of "Purdey's: The Guns & the Family" (Sixth Impression) by Richard Beaumont which features a few other shotguns with similar features. Ramrod absent.

Unsigned Leaping Gazelle Bronze
Lot # 401 (Sale Order: 397 of 1256)
This great Animalier subject matter is very characteristic of the 19th century Animalier school that depicts animals in their natural state. This gazelle is leaping forward with no legs touching the ground as she is being spooked by a mortal enemy. Her curved spiral horns flow backwards with her running stance. This bronze rests on an oval bronze plinth. These measurements are believed to be life size to the living animal. Tremendous detail in the face and body of the gazelle and would look good in any garden or home setting. Measurements: 65x32x61 inches. Weighs approximately 250 lbs. Very good with limited storage and handling marks.

The bronze is signed on the bottom of the ground near the ox's back leg and is numbered 1 of 5. Measures: 26x16x12 inches. Weighs approximately 90 lbs.
