P. Gonter and F. Bartlett Signed Flintlock American Long Rifle
Lot # 383 (Sale Order: 382 of 1210)
Per the included notarized letter from Frank H. Bartlett of Gallatin, Tennessee, in 2002 this rifle was restocked by Bartlett in the mid-1980s using the original barrel, lock, trigger plate, and buttplate. Bartlett made the patchbox, toeplate, sideplate, star cheekpiece inlay, silver thumbplate, nose cap, and ramrod pipes and carved the rifle based on a documented Peter Gonter rifle. The barrel had the rifling recut by Royland Southgate in the early 1970s, and after Bartlett first sold the rifle, it was aged by another gunsmith. After it was being sold by a subsequent owner as an original, Bartlett repurchased the rifle and added his signature to prevent the rifle from being fraudulently misrepresented in the future.

Two Stull Family Signed Percussion American Long Rifles
Lot # 385 (Sale Order: 384 of 1210)
Two Stull Family Signed Percussion American Long Rifles -A) G. Stull Signed Long Rifle
The barrel on the first of the two rifles is signed "G Stull". Both rifles were built around the mid-19th century. The identities of some of the Stull family members are confusing given multiple George and Samuel Stulls that were related and all living in Ohio in the 19th century and connect back to Michael Stull (1767-1842) of Northumberland, Pennsylvania, and later Harrison, Ohio. His son George Stull (1792-1882) is listed in genealogical records as the father of Samuel Stull (1808-1907). Michael Stull also had multiple other younger son, including Samuel Stull (1817-1900) and John Stull (1793-1874), and one of John Stull's sons was George Washington Stull (1833-1894). Adding to the potential confusion is George Stull (1792-1844) buried in Miller Township, Knox County, Ohio, who is listed as the son of John Stull (1752-1823) who served in the Washington County PA militia during the Revolution. Census records generally list all of these men as farmers, the primary trade of many rifle makers in the period.
