37" OAL, 25 1/2" blade with wavy hamon, shin gunto fittings and saya, and a blue/brown tassel. The tang has one mekugi-ana, and is marked on the left side with a "showa" stamp and a 5-figure signature.

Japanese Tanto-Length Knife
Lot # 457 (Sale Order: 456 of 1210)
18" OAL, 12" blade with wavy hamon and asymmetrical bo-hi grooves, and aikuchi-pattern furniture with a matched ribbing pattern and horn accents. The hilt is secured with a two-piece brass pin; the pin could not be removed during inspection, but consignor states that a two-figure signature and two mekugi-ana are present under the hilt. A small signed kogatana knife is included, with a darkened brass hilt, and a cloth pouch.

Mauser K98k Converted "SS2/Death's Head" Short Rail Sniper Rifle
Lot # 463 (Sale Order: 462 of 1210)
Manufactured during the Imperial World War I era as a Gewehr 98 rifle, and subsequently overhauled to K98k configuration with a "short rail" for scope mounting. The SS are known to have used a number of overhauled Imperial and Weimar weapons to meet their armament needs, due to competitive pressure from the Heer. Imperial eagle stamp on the left side of the receiver ring with "crown/Gothic letter" proofs on the right and no visible markings on top, the left breech of the barrel is stamped with "SS/2" sig runes over a totenkopf/death's head, and "S/42" depot rework markings on the rear sight base. Matching visible serial numbers on various components (some components renumbered to match). The scope has an added number to match the rifle, with no other visible markings beside the adjustment notches, and is fitted with a rubber eye piece.

Very good as professionally restored/converted back to World War II configuration, with scattered patches of light pitting and freckling. Stock is very good as sanded and re-oiled, with scattered scratches and dents, and a crack visible below the right of the receiver ring. Mechanically excellent. Scope is fine with clear optics.

German Karabiner 98 in "Claw Mount Sniper" Configuration
Lot # 468 (Sale Order: 467 of 1210)
Manufactured as a military carbine for the Imperial German Army, this Karabiner 98 has been modified with a set of commercial style double claw mount bases on the ring and bridge, which currently hold a Hensoldt-Wetzlar Dialytan 4x scope, and an unmarked turned-down bolt handle. While not documented, a number of Karabiner and Gewehr 98 rifles are known to have been modified for sniper duty during World War I, to be used for hunting down their opposite numbers among the Entente forces, blasting through light cover with special issue armor piercing ammunition, and eliminating targets of opportunity, particularly at early dawn/late dusk when it was too dark for opponents with iron sighted rifles to deliver accurate return fire.
