World War I Era U.S. Air Service Officer Tunic

Constructed from olive wool, the tunic is outfitted with a set of officer U.S. and Air Service lapel pins, captain shoulder insignia, sterling bombardier wings on the left chest, and one overseas service chevron. Jacob Reed's Sons, Inc. of Philadelphia label on the lining.

Grouping of Military Boots and an Aviator-Marked Foot Locker
Lot # 2477 (Sale Order: 478 of 1235)
Grouping consists of five pairs of boots (four black leather, one brown leather with matching leather gaiters) and an (incomplete) personal grooming kit. All the aforementioned fit in an included green painted foot locker, which is marked on the top for shipment from a Major F.M. Shipley of the 22nd Bomb Squadron to a First Lieutenant Walter J. Stecko of Cleveland, Ohio; neither Major Shipley or Lieutenant Stecko have been positively identified.

Three Pairs of Military Aviator Boots
Lot # 2478 (Sale Order: 479 of 1235)
1) Black boots, leather construction on the bottom and fleece-lined suede on top, no visible maker's marks. Consignor notes attribute these as a set of Royal Air Force "escape boots"; in event of a bailout or crash landing, the wearer could cut off the suede portion, making the lower area look like normal civilian shoes on casual observation. 2) White leather "cowboy" style boots with steel-reinforced heels and painted on unit insignia on the sides; the right bearing insignia for the 85th and 86th Fighter Squadrons, the left the 87th and 316th Fighter Squadrons (the 85th, 86th and 87th were all components of the 79th Fighter Group, the 316th part of the 324th Fighter Group). 3) Brown leather boots, no makers marks, with a leather Air Corps/Army Air Force insignia on the right boot and the China-Burma-India theater insignia on the left.

Very good overall, with wear and staining appropriate to age and use. The white pair shows heavier cracking of the leather and areas of torn stitching.

Undated "I.B.M. CORP." marked barrel, "B-EB" trigger housing, "WMB" hammer, "SW-B" sear, "EP-B" safety, "PR-B" magazine match, "AO-B" round blued bolt, "AOB" operating rod, "GE-Q" L-flip rear sight, and "SI-B" front sight. Fitted with a second series M1A1 "IO" code paratrooper stock and handguard with "RI/3" marked pistol grip and absent recoil plate top cover. Includes a web sling and oiler. Magazine is absent.

Two Documented Anthropometric Analogous Mannequin Headforms
Lot # 2483 (Sale Order: 484 of 1235)
In the included October 17th, 1994 dated U.S. Army technical report titled "Development of Anthropometric Analogous Headforms" it states, "The overall goal of the CTI study is to design three manikin headforms ---small, midsized, and large -- for use in military ejection seat and crashworthiness testing, as well as retention and fit assessment, of helmet and head-supported devices." The heads each rest on their own cylindrical metal stand. They measure 23 inches and 22 inches.

Very good condition with some chips in the black paint showing a lower bronze colored layer and the raw material layer beneath that. Bases show general storage and handling marks. These would make excellent helmet displays.

Includes a 1917 dated "W.E.H." inspected "US" embossed Warren Leather Goods Co. brown leather M1916 holster with faint name "CHAS F BASSETT" handwritten on the interior of the flap, three extra magazines, two double magazine pouches, and consignor research related to a Charles F. Bassett of Flint, Michigan who appears to have been active in both World Wars (listed as B Co. 529th Engineers AEF), along with a period framed portrait of a soldier that is likely Charles F. Bassett measuring 22x9 inches.

World War I U.S. Colt Model 1917 Double Action Revolver
Lot # 2489 (Sale Order: 490 of 1235)
Manufactured in 1917 per the butt number. Butt marked "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917/No./237". The revolver is listed as shipped on November 27, 1917 on page 407 of Charles Clawson's "Colt .45 Service Pistols" as part of the first shipment to the Commanding Officer, Springfield Armory. "14983" marked on the frame, crane and barrel added at the time of arsenal refurbishment after World War I. Retains the early straight cylinder, without the counter-bored chambers that were adopted soon after production began to allow use without the half-moon clips. The frame is stamped with the early GHS monogram of Gilbert H. Stewart, that appeared on the first Colt Model 1917 revolvers.

Custom Mauser Model 1896 20-Shot Flat Side Large Ring Pistol
Lot # 2495 (Sale Order: 496 of 1235)
This is a very unique example of a custom altered large ring 20-Shot Broomhandle Mauser pistol. This pistol bears the small "DV" and "AV" markings associated with the Italian Contract run of the 1896 Broomhandle. The top of the barrel extension is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A/N" with the serial number "2347" stamped on the left side and the Italian-style "DV" acceptance proof also on the left side. The underside of the barrel has three small script letter proofs with the Italian acceptance proof of a "Crown/AV" proof directly on the underside of the chamber area and in front of the lower receiver. This pistol has all the early features such as the large ring hammer, the long extractor on top of the breech bolt, the large ring hammer, the first style safety lever that you pull down to engage, the late style tangent rear graduated from 1-10 (100-1,000 meters), the late style one-lug firing pin and of course the "20-shot" frame forging. The walnut grips have 23 grooves that are numbered on the back side with the full serial number of the pistol. It is complete with the original ring on the bottom of the frame. Includes a modern walnut shoulder holster stock with leather suspension strap rig.

DWM Model 1902 Luger Pistol in 9 mm Luger Auto
Lot # 2496 (Sale Order: 497 of 1235)
This is a rare example of a DWM Model 1902 Army Trials Luger pistol, only found within the 22,200 to 22,400 serial range, produced for the Imperial German army tests of that year. Early features including a recessed breech block, dished toggles with toggle lock, narrow trigger, and grip safety. Blank chamber, and lacking the typical "DWM" monogram on the toggle link. With matching visible serial numbers on the frame and barrel, with matching partials on some of the small parts including the underside of the extension. Grips are unnumbered and marked with "*". Fitted with a nickel finished magazine with unmarked walnut base.

Very good with patches of original finish mixed with aritificial brown finish across the frame, barrel, and extension revealing both grey and brown patinas, limited minor pitting, minor spotting, and mild handling marks. The grips are also very good with light compression marks in the otherwise defined checkering. Magazine base cracked and reglued. Mechanically excellent.
DWM 1900 American Eagle Luger Pistol with Holster and Belt

This American Eagle Luger, serial number 7555, is after the generally accepted approximate 6100-7100 serial number range of the U.S. test trial Lugers but shares similar characteristics. It is listed by its serial number 7555 on page 416 of the book "Central Powers Pistols" by Jan C. Still as an example witnessed by the author with test Luger characteristics that falls outside the traditional serial range, notably lacking "GERMANY" export markings. "American Eagle" crest on the chamber, correct small DWM/German Ordnance proof (similar to the U.S. Ordnance bomb proof) hidden inside front frame recess area and underside of breech, and nickel finished magazine with unmarked hardwood base. All matching visible serial numbers. "Dawson O" period handwritten in black ink on the interior of the right grip panel. Includes a Mills pattern U.S. canvas belt with leather double magazine pouch containing an extra nickel finished magazine with walnut base, takedown tool, and a reproduction right handed "US" embossed brown leather Luger holster.

Imperial German "1914" Erfurt Model 1914 Artillery Luger Pistol

"1914" dated chamber, "crown/ERFURT" marked front toggle link, Imperial eagle and "crown/Gothic letter" military proofed. Matching visible serial numbers on the frame, barrel, and extension, with matching "76" partials on small parts except the side plate and grips that are numbered to different pistols. Fitted with a nickel finished magazine with walnut base numbered to another pistol.
