CHATEAU LEOVILLE LAS CASES ST JULIEN - 1990 - 750ML

Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 375)

1990 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien 96 points Robert Parker: "As one might expect, this is a brilliant wine, but it remains shockingly young, even for the fast evolving 1990s. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by a classic, nearly restrained set of aromatics that includes notions of sweet black cherries, black currants, lead pencil, and wet stones. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, and while technically low in acidity, there is a freshness, delineation, and classicism in this full-throttle, rich, concentrated, impeccable 1990. While still youthful, it is easy to appreciate despite its substantial tannins. It is not quite as backward as the 1990 Lafite Rothschild or 1990 Latour. Anticipated maturity: now-2035." (06/09) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Beautifully crafted red. Gorgeous plum, berry and smoky oak character. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, long, ripe fruit finish. A joy to taste." BRUNO CLAIR CHAMBERTIN CLOS DE BEZE GRAND CRU - 1998 - 750ML

Lot # 2 (Sale Order: 2 of 375)

Quantity: 2

Bruno Clair Chambertin Clos de Beze 1998 The Wine Spectator says "So pure; the essence of silky Pinot Noir. Dark-colored, with massive firm and ripe tannins shepherding the sensational blackberry, raspberry and cassis flavors to a balanced, seductive, ultravelvety, creamlike finish. Whoa! Drink now through 2010. 175 cases made." 95 points ...more

CHATEAU GRAND PUY LACOSTE PAUILLAC - 2) 1996 / 1) 1995 - 750ML

Lot # 3 (Sale Order: 3 of 375)

Quantity: 3

2btl Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste 1995 1btl of 1996 95 points Robert Parker: "Unbelievably rich, multidimensional, broad-shouldered wine, with slightly more elegance and less weight than the powerhouse 1996, this gorgeously proportioned, medium to full-bodied, fabulously ripe, rich, cassis-scented and flavored Grand-Puy-Lacoste is another beauty. It should be drinkable within 4-5 years, and keep for 25-30. This classic Pauillac is a worthy rival to the other-worldly 1996." (02/98) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful aromas of currant, plum and spice. Full-bodied, with a wonderful concentration of fruit, yet silky, racy and beautiful." (2007) 91 points Stephen Tanzer: "Dark ruby-red. Ripe, expressive nose combines cassis, roasted plum and coconut. Supple, very concentrated and large-scaled; actually rather backward today even if the terrific ripeness is clear to see. Quintessential firm Pauillac backbone is covered by flesh. Will rely more on its tongue-dusting tannins than its acidity to age in bottle." (May/Jun 98) - With all the hype surrounding the Wine Spectator's wine of the year (Ducru Beaucaillou) it's no wonder that Grand-Puy-Lacoste has been so incredibly popular and delicious. Jean-Eugene Borie owns and controls both Grand-Puy-Lacoste and Ducru Beaucaillou. The 1995 vintage has awesome in both Pauillac and St. Julien, and if you'd prefer not to spend the money it will now take to purchase Ducru Beaucaillou (if you can find it), then the wise choice is this sensational wine 95 points Robert Parker: " The 1996 displays an opaque purple color, as well as sweet, wonderfully pure, jammy blackberry, mineral, and intriguing floral aromas. Enormously rich and full-bodied, with massive intensity, this is a modern day tour de force in winemaking. In spite of being aged in a hefty percentage of new oak, the wine does not reveal any evidence of new oak casks because the fruit character is so pronounced. Statistically, this wine possesses huge amounts of tannin, but it comes across as a seamless giant with extraordinary richness and intensity. This may be even greater than the exceptional 1982, but it may take longer to become accessible than the latter wine. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2035. Wow! What extraordinary wines Grand-Puy-Lacoste has produced in both 1995 and 1996. At present, I have a marginal preference for the blockbuster 1996, but I am not about to argue with anybody who prefers the 1995! Both are compelling wines. 1btl 2003 Montrose, St-Estèphe SKU #1025661 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The enormous 2003 Montrose is built along the lines of the 1989 rather than the 1990. It boasts a dense black/purple color in addition to an extraordinary bouquet of scorched earth, blackberries, and cassis, fabulous purity, a skyscraper-like texture, and substantial tannin in the finish. This superb, huge, ripe wine is one of the vintage’s most prodigious offerings. However, patience will be essential for anyone purchasing this 2003. (6/ 2006) 96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Good medium-deep ruby-red. Superripe, roasted aromas of black raspberry, chocolate and licorice. Wonderfully dense, sweet and lush, with an early roundness rare for this wine. A monumental St. Estephe with almost confectionery sweetness. Wonderfully horizontal, palate-saturating wine with huge but thoroughly ripe, lush tannins. (3/ 2006) 95 points Wine Spectator Dark color. Aromas of blackberry, toasted oak, spice and tobacco. Loads of plum. Medium- to full-bodied, with very integrated and refined tannins. Long. This really builds on the palate. This is better than the 2000 and 1990. Only time will tell if it's better than the 1989. (5/ 2009) ...more

CHATEAU LEOVILLE LAS CASES ST JULIEN - 1995 - 750ML

Lot # 5 (Sale Order: 5 of 375)

Leoville Las Cases 1995 95 points Robert Parker: "...one of the vintage's great success stories. The wine boasts an opaque ruby/purple color, and exceptionally pure, beautifully knit aromas of black fruits, minerals, vanillin, and spice. On the attack, it is staggeringly rich, yet displays more noticeable tannin than its younger sibling. Exceptionally ripe cassis fruit, the judicious use of toasty new oak, and a thrilling mineral character intertwined with the high quality of fruit routinely obtained by Las Cases, make this a compelling effort." (02/98) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Pure violets, minerals and blackberries on the nose. Full-bodied, chewy and powerful. Still holding back a lot. This wine needs to break its chains." (2007) 94(+?) points Stephen Tanzer: "Deep ruby-red. Deep, lively aromas of red- and blackcurrants, licorice, tobacco and grilled nuts. Great sweetness and silky texture in the mouth currently overshadows the wine strong supporting acidity and tight core of spice and minerals." (May/Jun 98 ...more

La Croix St Georges Pomerol 1999 Rated: 86-89 by Stephen Tanzer, May/June 00 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Purple-ruby color. CHATEAU L'EGLISE CLINET POMEROL - DENIS DURANTOU - 2001 - 750ML

Lot # 10 (Sale Order: 10 of 375)

CHATEAU L'EGLISE CLINET POMEROL - DENIS DURANTOU - 2001 - 750ML A brilliant effort (one of the vintage's most substantial wines). Denis Durantou has turned in a tour de force in 2001. Sadly, there are only 1500 cases of this 85% Merlot/ 15% Cabernet Franc blend (from vines averaging 40 years of age). A beauty, it boasts a dense ruby/purple color as well as a glorious nose of red and black fruits, flowers, sweet oak and hints of licorice as well as truffles. Opulent, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, tannic and persistent on the palate. (the finish lasts 40 seconds), give it 2-4 years of cellaring and drink it between 2007-2020. ...more

CHATEAU MARGAUX GRAND VIN - 1999 - OWC - 750ML

Lot # 11 (Sale Order: 11 of 375)

Quantity: 12

CHATEAU MARGAUX GRAND VIN - 1999 - OWC - 750ML Rated: 93 by Stephen Tanzer, May/Jun 02 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Medium ruby. Expressive aromas of black raspberry, Cuban tobacco and grilled nuts; a bit more red fruit in character than either the 2000 or the 2001. Silky, seamless and enveloping, but the wine's excellent vinosity gives its creamy fruit very good definition. Consistent from start to finish. Tannins are substantial but fine, allowing the fruit and floral flavors to linger impressively. Along with Latour, an early candidate for the wine of the vintage. 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The sexy, dark plum/purple-colored 1999 Margaux is already revealing complex aromatics. This surprisingly charming and round offering is reminiscent of a vintage such as 1985. Although neither a blockbuster nor a heavyweight, it grows in the mouth revealing tremendous length as well as purity. Administrator Paul Pontallier prefers it to the more austere 1998, as do I. This is an archetypical Chateau Margaux of richness, finesse, balance, and symmetry. It can be drunk young, but promises to age nicely for two decades. Extrapolating backwards, it would probably have something in common with the underrated 1962 Medocs. ...more

CHATEAU CALON-SEGUR ST ESTEPHE MEDOC - 1996 - OWC - 750ML

Lot # 12 (Sale Order: 12 of 375)

Quantity: 12

CHATEAU CALON-SEGUR ST ESTEPHE MEDOC - 1996 - OWC - 750ML Robert Parker 94 Points! “The 1996 has gained weight, revealing even more flesh and depth than it did in spring, 1997. The wine is opaque ruby/purple-colored, full-bodied, ferociously tannic, and crammed with fruit and extract. Made in an uncompromising, traditional style, this wine will require a decade of patience. There is plenty of sweet fruit on the attack, and while the tannins are high, they are remarkably ripe with no evidence of astringency or vegetal characteristics. This appears to be a profound, classic, muscular, and powerful Calon-Segur that will age effortlessly for 30-40 years. Readers should remember that this estate possesses one of the greatest terroirs of Bordeaux, and produced a bevy of legendary wines in the twenties, late forties, and early fifties. Since then, it has been something of a hit or miss property, but under her administration, Madame Gasqueton has produced consistently outstanding wines. The 1996, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, was made from extremely low yields of 35 hectoliters per hectare.” Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 115 Feb 1998 ...more

CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC - BARONNE PHILIPPINE DE ROTHSCHILD - 197

Lot # 14 (Sale Order: 14 of 375)

CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC - BARONNE PHILIPPINE DE ROTHSCHILD - 1973 - 750ML - WINE BELOW SHOULDER - LABEL IN POOR CONDITION Since the end of World War II, Chateau Mouton-Rothschild has commissioned famous artists to design labels for each vintage year. But for the chateau, the 1973 vintage was a milestone. In that year, the French government, after years of deliberation, officially reclassified the wines of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild to "first growth" status, recognizing them as equal to other established first growths like Chateau Latour and Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. In anticipation of that re-classification, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, owner of Mouton, asked Pablo Picasso to design the label that would go on the newly elevated wine. Although Picasso died by the time the 1973 wine was bottled, the Baron kept the painter's design. Indeed, in celebration of the occasion, the label for the 1973 Mouton-Rothschild was made larger than any other of the winery's labels before or since. It's because of this historical significance that the 1973 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild has value as a collector's item. Indeed, I've seen flea market salesmen offer empty bottles of the '73 vintage for $15-$20. As for the wine inside the bottle, the '73 vintage for Mouton, like most of Bordeaux, was only fair; the wine itself has long since peaked in quality. Nevertheless, well-kept bottles of the Picasso label Mouton have recently been sold at auction for about $100. ...more

CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC - 2004 - 750ML

Lot # 15 (Sale Order: 15 of 375)

CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC - 2004 - 750ML 93 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful aromas of crushed berries and chocolate, with hints of Indian spices. Full-bodied, with silky, velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. This is the first wine from the new winemaking team at Mouton and is showing really well. Best after 2011." (03/07) 92+ points Robert Parker: "I can’t say much for the painting by Prince Charles on the label, but what’s in the bottle is a powerful, classic, dense ruby/purple-hued Mouton with a full-bodied style, brutal tannin, impressive concentration, and a primordial backwardness that will require 10-15 years of cellaring. Built along the lines of a modern day 1966 or 1988, the 2004 reveals plenty of power and concentration..." (06/07) 92 points Stephen Tanzer: "Good full ruby-red. Expressive aromas of currant, coffee, dark chocolate, tobacco, mocha and smoked meat. Juicy, spicy and classically dry; rather tight and backward for 2004 and not a particularly fleshy style, even if it's nicely sweetened by nutty oak. But this boasts excellent precision and verve and the aromatic finishing flavors build slowly and steadily. Firm acids and tannins give this plenty of backbone for development in bottle. With extended aeration, the texture became silkier." (May/June 07...more

CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC - 1988 - 750ML

Lot # 16 (Sale Order: 16 of 375)

Quantity: 3

CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC - 1988 - 750ML The 1988 Mouton has an attractive aroma of exotic spices, minerals, coffee, black currants, and sweet oak. Much like the 1989, the bouquet is staggering, but the flavors are distinctly less profound. In the mouth, it is a much firmer, tougher, more obviously tannic wine than the 1989, with medium body and outstanding ripeness. A beautifully made 1988 that will last 20-25 years, its short finish keeps it from being sublime. The 1988 is somewhat reminiscent of the 1985, but with more tannin. Anticipated maturity: Now-2020. Drink or hold." CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC - 1998 - 750ML - MINOR STAINS ON LABELS

Lot # 18 (Sale Order: 18 of 375)

Quantity: 3

CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC - 1998 - 750ML - MINOR STAINS ON LABELS 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Like many of its peers, the 1998 has filled out spectacularly. Now in the bottle, this opaque black/purple-colored offering has increased in stature, richness, and size...it is an extremely powerful, super-concentrated wine offering notes of roasted espresso, creme de cassis, smoke, new saddle leather, graphite, and licorice. It is massive, with awesome concentration, mouth-searing tannin levels, and a saturated flavor profile that grips the mouth with considerable intensity. This is a 50-year Mouton, but patience will be required as it will not be close to drinkability for at least a decade. (4/ 2001) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Very deep saturated ruby. Archetypical cabernet sauvignon-dominated nose offers fresh blackcurrant, lead pencil and flowers complicated by strong spice notes. Bright and juicy on entry, with very pure flavors of dark berries, underbrush and dried herbs, then slightly austere and linear in the middle palate. Finishes with a lingering saline nuance and very good length. (8/ 2011)) ...more

GRAND VIN DE CHATEAU LATOUR PAUILLAC - 2001 - 750ML

Lot # 20 (Sale Order: 20 of 375)

GRAND VIN DE CHATEAU LATOUR PAUILLAC - 2001 - 750ML A brilliant offering, which should be drinkable much earlier than the blockbuster 2000, the 2001 Latour boasts an inky/ruby/purple color to the rim as well as a glorious bouquet of black currants, crushed stones, vanilla, and hints of truffles and oak. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance primarily Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it reveals a sweetness on the palate that is atypical for such a young Latour. The beautiful integration of tannin, acidity, and wood is stunning. The wine flows across the palate with fabulous texture, purity, and presence. This luscious, full-bodied Latour was surprisingly open-knit on the three occasions I tasted it from bottle. However, do not mistake its aging ability as this 2001, despite its precociousness, will last 20-25 years. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025. (6/ 2004) 95 points Wine Spectator (Collectibles) Extremely attractive aromas of blackberries and currants with just a hint of mineral and oak. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, long finish. As it was from barrel; powerful and fast. Serious stuff. (3/ 2004) ...more

CHATEAU DE BEAUCASTEL CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE - 2001 - 750ML

Lot # 22 (Sale Order: 22 of 375)

CHATEAU DE BEAUCASTEL CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE - 2001 - 750ML 96 points Robert Parker: "Beaucastel has been on a terrific qualitative roll over the last four vintages... This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years, not to re-emerge for 7-8 years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025." (02/04) 93 points Wine Spectator: "This has fleshed out nicely, beginning to show secondary notes, with mesquite, incense and black tea now emerging from the fleshy, bundled core of plum sauce, cassis and blackberry preserves flavors. A dark tarry note on the finish is offset nicely by a mouthwatering sanguine hint." (2012) 92+ points Stephen Tanzer: "Bright ruby-red. Liqueur-like raspberry, licorice and a medicinal quality on the nose. Then quite backward in the mouth, with very primary dark berry and black cherry flavors hinting at great ripeness. Quite primary today and less animal than usual for a young Beaucastel. Elegant, slow-building finish features fine-grained tannins and excellent grip." (Jan/Feb 04)...more

DOMAINE DU PAGAU CHATEAUNEUF DE PAPE CUVEE RESERVE - 2003 - 750ML

Lot # 23 (Sale Order: 23 of 375)

Quantity: 2

DOMAINE DU PAGAU CHATEAUNEUF DE PAPE CUVEE RESERVE - 2003 - 750ML 98 points Robert Parker: "The 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee stands out as one of the all-time great wines made by Laurence Feraud and her father, Paul. I remember first tasting it from a large tank as it was still fermenting and it was already impressive! It is a full-bodied, powerful wine that must tip the scales at close to 15.5% natural alcohol. I don’t think this big, chewy, voluptuously textured wine will ever close down. Dark plum/garnet with the classic Provencal display of garrigue, lavender, pepper, kirsch and Asian plum sauce, this full-throttle wine has splendid concentration, silky tannins, and a very voluptuous texture. It should continue to drink well for another 25 years." (10/10) 97 points and #5 on the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2006: "Offers aromas of freshly crushed plum and blackberry with a Port-like headiness, then pumps out dark berry fruit, bramble, licorice, tar and pain d'épices flavors before a flitter of game and garrigue on the finish. Dense and muscular, but also luxurious. Best from 2008 through 2030." (06/06) 94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red. Strikingly complex nose offers powerful scents of red berries, spicecake, cured meat and potpourri. Velvety red berry and kirsch flavors stain the palate, picking pick up candied lavender and fruitcake nuances with air. The spiciness builds on the finish, which echoes the cherry note.."...more

LOUIS LATOUR PULIGNY-MONTRACHET LES FOLATIERES GRAND VIN DE BOURGOGNE - 200

Quantity: 2

LOUIS LATOUR PULIGNY-MONTRACHET LES FOLATIERES GRAND VIN DE BOURGOGNE - 2005 - 750MLThe vineyard of « Les Folatières » produces a wine that is the ultimate expression of the noble Chardonnay grape in the village of Puligny-Montrachet. The vines grow high up on limestone and marl soil with an ideal south-easterly exposure, catching as much sunlight as the day-time permits. The ripeness of the grapes ensures that the wine is rich but steely with a wide range of fruit notes, ranging from the exotic (guava, lichee) to the more familiar (apple, orange). There are also buttery notes and an appealingly rich aftertaste...more
