23" (58 cm.) All-cloth doll with overall-oil-painted matte finish depicting a plump child with square-shaped face, painted shaded-black hair in short bob with painted pin...morek hair bow, painted brown upper-glancing eyes, painted upper lashes and tiny brows, shaped nose, closed mouth with extended center line, uniquely-shaped body whose hinge-swinging legs have joining fabric at the inner thighs to prevent "flopping", mitten-shaped hands, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Nina Bonner Albritton of Clarksville, Tennessee, circa 1915, whose publicity indicates that each of the dolls was completely made by her. Value Points: few examples of the American folk doll are known to exist, this example with rare hair style and wonderfully-painted eyes. Included with the doll is an original catalog with tipped-in photos of her dolls and various testimonials from the buyers. With blue ribbon award from 2016 UFDC national convention.

Hand-pressed paper mache head with flanged neck, rich black complexion, sculpted black hair in very tight curls, sculpted angled black brows, heavily lidded ...moreinset brown eyes with black eyeliner, broad rounded nose, closed mouth with very full downcast lips in wistful expression, very plump cheeks, three modeled tears on cheeks, brown muslin torso and upper legs, composition lower limbs, wearing white cotton dress and checkered pinafore, undergarments, shoes, stockings. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: L.M. (head) Cleota 1920 (hand lettered on torso). Comments: attributed to Leo Moss, circa 1920, the itinerant black carpenter of Georgia is believed to have created a small number of one-of-a-kind dolls depicting children of his small town world; his materials were those found-at-hand; for example, the left-over scraps of wall paper from his day job. The tearful-faced children were signature to his style, and each was created uniquely. Value Points: rare American doll with outstanding sculpting and portraiture, enhanced by the mysterious background of the artist, superb state of preservation.

Outstanding English Wooden Dollhouse Known as Tickenhill Baby House 18,000/25,000

39" (99 cm.) l. x 45"h. x 15"d. The wooden house features fine architectural exterior details including bevelled-edge wooden blocks that simulate stone and brick, arched ...moreand pedimented windows, paneled doors, and slatted roof to simulate shingle patterns with two very large beveled-edge chimneys. The two-piece front panels notch into the framework and are held by two wire hooks, and with side-opening panels. The interior of the house features early original hand-painted wall papers, and each room is fitted with built-in fire place. The house is in excellent unrestored condition. Known as the Tickenhill Baby House, it  was modeled after the 16th century Tickenhill Manor House in Bewdley, Worcestershire, England, and was likely created by the master carpenter of that estate.

A wooden box with black paper cover and gilt paper edging exhibits a farmyard scene of woman feeding chickens, she with colorful folklore style costume ...moreand elaborate coiffe, farm buildings in the background. A glass window encloses the scene, and hidden behind the scene is sand. The toy is designed to turn upside down and then, when reversed, the flowing sand causes the woman's arm to move as though tossing feed. Excellent condition, original paper label on reverse side. An identical example is known with original Tharins paper label. French, 1850, rare and charming toy.
