Maitrise Model French Chest in the Chinoiserie Manner with Accessories 900/1200

11" (28 cm.) l. 8"h. The Louis XVI-style wooden two-drawer chest with bombe-shaped drawers is decorated in the Chinoiserie manner with faux-marble top and having gilt bronze mountings and drawer pulls. With a pair of seven-arm candleholders and a mother-of-pearl clock with decorative metal mountings of a winged cherub, lion's heads and paws. Generally excellent, unknown if clock is functioning. The chest is a mid-1900s maitrise model, candleholders and clock, circa 1885.

Of fine woods, with black lacquered finish on the exterior, and mahogany-red painted interior, and with elaborate gilt and umber hand-painted Chinoiserie scenes and designs, the secretaire features a drop-front desk with elaborate interior fitted with niches, drawers and a locked center cabinet, above a cabinet base with five graduated size drawers with metal bail handles; and with a cabinet top with recessed decorative panels and shelved interior. Generally excellent. French, mid-1900s maitrise model of exceptional quality, in the 18th century manner.

All-Original French Automaton "The Marquise with Lorgnette" with Bisque Portrait Face 8500/11,000

18" (46 cm.) A bisque-headed lady with distinctive portrait face and pale bisque is posed upon a velvet-covered base in a proud aristocratic pose. She has blue glass paperweight eyes, high cheek bones, aquiline nose, closed mouth, white/blonde mohair wig in elaborate coiffure, separate bisque shoulder plate, shapely carton torso with adult lady shape, bisque forearms, and is wearing a maroon and ivory silk gown with lace overlay, silk-covered buttons, matching stockings and shoes and is holding a silk-covered fan in one hand, and an elaborate ormolu lorgnette in her other hand. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 3 (doll). Comments: Leopold Lambert with portrait Jumeau bisque head, circa 1890. When wound, she turns her head to the right, pauses, then lifts the lorgnette as though to view the social scene, then turns to the left, lifts the fan and fans herself three times in succession by turning her wrist to and fro; music plays. Value Points: rare portrait face, deluxe quality of movements including wrist turning, superb original costume and accessories, remains of original boutique label and music tune label on the underside.
Pair, Tiny German All-Bisque Miniature Dolls with Original Folklore Costumes 300/500

Condition: generally excellent. Marks: A 12 T (head) La Patricienne Depose (body). Comments: Andre Thuillier, circa 1885, on the deposed lady body of the Steiner successor firm, although an unusual variation, the head and body style are appropriate and may be original to the era. Value Points: very beautiful model with finest bisque and painting, dramatic eyes, sensuous painting of lips, original finish on the rare body, superb fashionable lady costume.

A bisque-headed lady with swivel head, blue glass eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig, carton torso, and bisque forearms, is attached to a three-wheeled fancy carriage with iron spoked wheels and silk tasseled cover; an all-bisque doll with blue glass eyes, swivel head, closed mouth, painted boots, and original silk costume rides in the carriage. Condition: generally excellent, slight paint wear to carriage, tiny flakes at arm peg holes of all-bisque doll, mechanism functions well. Comments: Vichy, circa 1875, when key wound, the lady "walks", pushing the carriage forward. Value Points: rare luxury toy is enhanced by beautiful face of lady.
Rare French Bisque Mechanical Cyclist in Original Costume 1200/1600

10" (25 cm.) Seated upon an old-fashioned large wheel tricycle with metal wheel spokes and rubber outer tire is a bisque head boy with cobalt blue glass eyes, painted lashes, brush-stroked brows, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig, wooden block torso, padded wire arms and legs, metal feet and hands. He is clasping the steering wheel which guides the tricycle when it is wound, and there is a chrome headlight at the front which can be turned side-to-side. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well. Comments: French, circa 1875. Value Points: wonderful mechanical toy, which glides and revolves when wound, the boy wearing his original silk costume and cap.

French Mechanical Doll "The Flower Vendor" Attributed to Vichy in Original Costume 5000/7500

A bisque doll with blue glass enamel eyes, dark eyeliner, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with pale accented lips, pierced ears, brunette human hair wig over cork pate, carton torso and lower legs, metal rod upper arms and legs, metal hands, metal rods emanating from the torso are attached to a spoked wheeled base with platform that holds a woven basket of colorful silk flowers. When wound, the man "walks" along, pushing the flower cart in front and lifts and lowers his right arm as though offering flowers for sale, while his head turns side-to-side. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well, old repaint of metal cart. Comments: attributed to Vichy, circa 1865. Value Points: beautiful face, charming activity, original (frail) silk costume.
Outstanding Fully Furnished 19th-Century Dollhouse from Original Paris Estate 15,000/22,000

55"h. x 38"w. x 16 _"d. A three-story six-room wooden dollhouse with original cream/grey painted finish to suggest stone has a steepled roof with small door opening to an attic, and double stack chimneys. There are two large "wall" panels at the front that hinge open for exhibit, and heavy cast handles for carrying at the sides. Each room has one large four-paneled floor-to-ceiling window at the back. The house has six rooms, two on each floor, and a center hallway on the ground floor. An unusually wide doorway with cast-hinged door is between the rooms on each floor. Each room is richly furnished, as follows: Top left: silk wallpaper with matching silk draperies having fringe and tassel trim; luxury ebony-finished furniture from Badeuille with gilt paper appliques to simulate bronze, comprising credenza, piano, table, settee and four chairs with original upholstery; fireplace with gilded tin pressed mirror and crystal and gilt metal chandelier. Top right: textured wallpaper with velvet fringed draperies, having a matching chandelier to opposite room, and furnished with a faux-marble fireplace below a mirror, high canopy bed with matching table, and four chairs, and jardiniere, paper mache portable stove, and various accessories. Middle floor left: silk wallpaper with silk draperies having fringed edging, silver chandelier, fireplace with faux-bamboo gilt metal mirror, another matching mirror, sofa and four chairs with raised carving details and leather seats, four various cupboards and tables, and various accessories including mirrors, birdcage, candlesticks. Middle floor right: textured wallpaper and parquet-patterned paper floor, with silk draperies, fireplace with mirror, and furnished with an early set of Biedemeier faux-rosewood bed and washstand, lady's writing desk, table and five chairs, sewing table, superb mirror-front armoire, and various gilded soft metal pieces including rocking chair, towel bar and letter holder. Ground floor left: kitchen with various cupboards, stove, table, bench, and a multitude of cooking pots, dishes, and utensils. Ground floor right and hallway: richly patterned paper floor, the room containing fireplace and mirror along with a set of Badeuille furnishings with natural finish decorated with decoupage designs and gilt edging, comprising pianoforte, cupboard, fernery, table, settee and four chairs that are covered with unusual luxury mauve velvet, and ormolu accessories. Very good/excellent condition, no restoration or re-work of any kind, some typical minor play wear to small pieces, some water damage to corner sections of silk wallpaper. The house and contents are sold as found from the garret of their home on Rue Joseph Bara in the 6th arrondissement of Paris where they have been preserved by their original family owners, the Hecht family, for well more than a century, offering a charming "moment in time" vision of an opulent late 19th century Parisian home.

The two-story wooden framed dollhouse with exterior scored to appear as brick and with fitted shingled roof, three gables, paneled front door with overhang, windows with fitted panes and trim, chimney, four interior rooms and a center staircase. Both exterior and interior of house has original paper and painted finish. The front door is lettered with the street number 110, and the year 1907 appears on the front gable window. Generally excellent condition. American, early 1900s.
