Bisque socket head with rounded facial shape, blue glass eyes which sleep from wire lever at the back of her head, painted lashes, rose-blushed eye shadow, brush-stroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over original Steiner pate, Steiner composition fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Sie C 4/0 (incised) Bs.d.g. (red ink) (eyes also signed Steiner). Comments: Jules Steiner, circa 1884, the unique eyes were created exclusively for the deposed sleeping eye models of Steiner. 7 1/2" (19 cm.) kneeling (if standing, the doll would be 9"). Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque torso, very plump facial modeling especially of cheeks, tiny blue glass sleep eyes, painted lashes, dark eyeliner, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, pointy nose, closed mouth with accent line between the lips, very long blonde mohair wig, peg-jointed bisque arms and legs, legs modeled in kneeling pose, bare feet, arms modeled with clasped hands as though praying. All carved wood figure depicting a gentleman with carved detail of hair and costume including long flowing hair, tricorn hat, fitted jacket, short pants, painted shoes, and is holding a large tray of food. He has glass eyes under wire spectacles, a hinged right arm at the shoulder and a hinged jaw, and when the pull-string at his back is pulled, he quickly raises his arm to his mouth, and opens his mouth wide to gobble a mouthful of food, while his eyes blink open and closed rapidly.
