Description

VanDerBrink Auctions is pleased to present the Roy Langlitz, “AKA Rob Carter” Chevrolet Big block collection. Roy loved his Chevrolets, especially Big block-4 speed cars. Back in the 1970’s, the gas crunch made those gas guzzling Muscle cars less desirable. Roy saw an opportunity and started buying those Chevrolets and Big block Parts. In 2008, Roy’s collection was featured as a Hidden Big Block collection in Hot Rod magazine. Roy did not want everyone to know what he had and went under the name Rob Carter. The article showed the huge collection of Big Block Cars and parts.
Roy would have a yearly car show with music and food for the local car club. To keep that tradition, we are going to have a celebration during preview on Friday, September 15th, 2023.
Day 1, Sept. 16th, 2023 will be onsite with online bidding for all those Big Block Chevelles, Corvettes, Camaros, El Caminos, and more classics along with signs, and select parts. We will start selling parts following vehicles and must be present. Stay for Day 2, Sept. 17th, 2023 for all those fabulous Big Block...

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Convertible

Lot # 28R (Sale Order: 80 of 180)

You are bidding on a 1970 Chevelle Convertible. 136670B115172. TITLE. KEY. NO BUILD SHEET. THERE ARE MANY ARTICLES ON THIS CAR AND BUILD IN VARIOUS PUBLICATIONS IN EARLY 1990'S. This car has had quite the interesting journey and stories to go with it. WE do NOT have a build sheet for this car, to confirm all the stories and original options. But it has been features in Car Craft, Super Chevy, and other publications. I put the pictures online and my phone lit up. I heard from friends and some of the guys that built the car. As the story was told to me, this car belonged to Dean and Tracie Evans from Clarksville, TN. This is noted in the article that is in the pictures. Dean was a skilled mechanic and him and his friends along with Chuck Hanson from the Chevelle Owners group, built the car. The brother, mark, called and said that the car had a 396 and 4speed in it and was Cranberry Red before built. The paint code is for a Cranberry Red Chevelle Convertible. The friends from TN told me that Dean and Tracie were in an accident in Dean's Camaro had and he was killed and she sold this car. It went to Kentucky and then to Arkansas. The car then made it's way to Washington and Roy bought the car. He had been researching the car and found it. In his notes, he had noted that articles called it an LS6 convertible. He believed that this car was an LS6 car and went and bought the car. Roy went with his trailer up a mountain and down. He called his daughter and said that was a horrible drive. He put the car on a hoist and it hadn't moved till the family moved it now. It does have a Big Block in the car and is NOT numbers matching. Block number 3969854 and Deck TO I 8CCB. Ray had noted that it was a 454, and there are various articles and decodes that it is a 402/396. It depends on the external or internal balancing. The car has a 4 speed transmission and posi rearend. It does NOT run. There are 91,727 miles showing on the odometer. There is rust through in the floors, rust in the quarters, rockers, and lower fenders. It is painted black with special painted stripes. It has a black convertible top and needs replacement. The interior has bucket seats that have cloth-velour. It has electric windows and locks that were added, I believe. It has aftermarket radio. In the article and talking with his brother, Dean painted the car and there was a ship painted on the center of the hood. It won many shows and was featured in magazines. The interior was the black velour, as noted in the article and was done by a shop in Clarksville, TN. This is a unique car with lots of magazine history. It was amazing that his brother, and 2 friends called me and talked about the car and the owner. He was a skilled man and it was tragic that he lost his life so young in an accident in his Camaro. The Car has a Cowl induction hood and the brother said this was added in the build. Can not confirm. There are many stories about this car and articles noting the LS6 with RPO option. Without a build sheet, I encourage all bidders to come to the auction and inspect this car. WE will be selling WITH this car a year correct 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 Motor that has been built. You will be buying the package. I will add more pictures. This is an excellent car for restoration and you can create your own story and restore this featured and car with lengthy history and traveled many miles. Oh the story she can tell. This is part of the Roy Langlitz Collection auction in Rathdrum Idaho on Sept. 16th and 17th, 2023 9:30am each day.
