A Rare Antique Plains Indian Saddle From the Late 1800s

Lot # 57 (Sale Order: 51 of 246)

Description: A Plains Indian saddle from the late 1800s. It is a wood frame, wrapped in rawhide and has tacked decorations both front and back. Not many of these authentic ones survive. The vintage Navajo saddle blanket can also be included with the saddle. The custom saddle stand may also be included, but only if the buyer makes arrangements to pick it up, we will not ship the saddle stand (nor will we hold it for more than a week). Please note the leather seat covering on the saddle is a later replacement.
According to Wikipedia, Plains Indians or Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains are the Native American tribes and Nation band governments who have historically lived on the Great Plains and Canadian Prairies. While hunting-farming cultures have lived on the Great plains for centuries prior to European contact, the region is most known for the horse cultures that flourished from the 17th century through the late 19th century. (Many of them would have ridden in saddles similar to this.)
Maker: Unknown.
Approx Age: Circa Late 1800s.
Size: Smaller sized saddle overall, but it has about a 12" seat.
Condition: Pretty good for its age. Wear, imperfections and missing accoutrements expected. Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description.
Shipping: There will be a $20 handling / packaging fee for shipping this lot. The actual cost of postage will be added on top of that.
BUY IT NOW: If you would like to buy this item now without waiting for the auction to end (this option is only available up to 48 hours before the auction starts to close), the ?Buy it Now? price is the high estimate of this lot. If you would like to end the auction early and pay the high estimate (plus applicable fees), please contact us by phone or email and reference this lot number.

A Rare Pair of Spurs Marked Both K&C and Kelly Bros.

Lot # 70 (Sale Order: 64 of 246)

Description: This is very unique and highly collectible pair of spurs with one marked K&C and the other, Kelly Bros. For years there has been much speculation about K&C spurs and who made them and when. This pair help to clear up some of the mystery suggesting they were made by the Kelly Brothers sometime between 1919 and 1939. These spurs are definitely a pair and not two similar singles, likely they got mixed up when on the work bench or perhaps the guy making them accidentally picked up the wrong stamp when hallmarking one of them. Who knows, but either way, it proves that Kelly Bros. and K&C were made in the same shop. This helps back up the theory that K&C actually stood for Kelly and Company.
This is a real nice old pair of single mounted spurs and the historical provenance they provide helps solve some of the mystery surrounding the K&C mark. They also come with nice leather spur straps with US conchos.
Maker: One spur is marked K&C and the other is marked Kelly Bros.
Approx. Age: 1919 to 1939.
Size: Heel opening is 3". Heel bands are 1" wide. Shanks are 3-7/8" long including the rowels.
Condition: Good for their age. Normal wear and minor imperfections expected on used and vintage items. As a matter of full disclosure, this pair came in completely covered with silver paint like somebody tried to make them look nickeled. So we sent them off to be professionally restored back to what they should look like.
Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description.
Shipping: There will be a $8 handling / packaging fee for shipping this lot. The actual cost of postage will be added on top of that.
