High Condition US Colt SAA and Other Historical Items From Mjr. Charles Howard

Lot # 50 (Sale Order: 45 of 246)

Description: Presented for your consideration we offer a high quality Colt Single Action Army Pistol (US marked with matching serial numbers and proper inspection marks) along with the holster, belt and other historical items which were carried by and belonged to Major Charles Howard. Major Howard was a prominent businessman, civic leader and soldier from South Dakota. He saw battle in the Philippines during the Spanish American war and is mentioned several times in the book, Campaigning in the Philippines. He is also in several photographs in the book in which you can see some of the items offered here. Also included are the Major's dog tags (which also have his Catholic metals on it as well) and a plethora of information and old photos pertaining to Howard. Although not belonging to the Major, there is also an original box of .45 shells for the Colt included. It is hard enough to find an original, US marked Colt SAA that hasn't been "enhanced" or altered, much less one in this good of condition and provenance as to who carried it! The pistol and accoutrements were originally purchased at auction where the descendants of Major Howard had consigned them and the bill of sale from that auction is included as provenance. These items would enhance any military or Colt collector's collection!

UNIQUE!! 1936 Bohlin Trophy Saddle From the Bakersfield California Frontier Days

Lot # 56 (Sale Order: 50 of 246)

Description: This is a wonderful opportunity to own a fancy 1936 Bakersfield Frontier Days Trophy Saddle made by Bohlin and adorned with Visalia silver. It is a gorgeous, dark leather saddle with sterling silver (Visalia) conchos and the saddle string conchos are the original Bohlin conchos. This saddle was stamped on the fenders, Bakersfield Frontier Days 1936. According to old records, the famous cowboy Buck Sorrels would have won this saddle.
It was re-worked at some point and the original silver was replaced with Visalia silver and the original championship inscription was mostly blotted out, but not completely (it's still somewhat legible). It was also recently re-lined. It comes with a letter from a saddle professional explaining some of the history and it talks about the reasons why it is strongly attributed as being a Bohlin made saddle. The original Bohlin plaque from the rear of the cantle is not there and there are no other markings, but the accompanying letter, stamp work and original conchos remaining on it, along with the design of the saddle itself is the provenance. It's a good looking saddle despite the renovations. Furthermore, it comes with a price which appropriately reflects them as original Bohlin saddles like this sell for much higher prices.
Maker: Bohlin Saddlery and Visalia Silver.
Approx. Age: Circa 1936.
Size: Saddle has a 13" seat.
Condition: Pretty good for its age. Normal wear and minor imperfections expected on used and vintage items and this saddle has been modified as stated in the description above.
Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description.
Shipping: There will be a $20 handling / packaging fee for shipping this lot. The actual cost of postage will be added on top of that.
BUY IT NOW: If you would like to buy this item now without waiting for the auction to end (this option is only available up to 48 hours before the auction starts to close), the ?Buy it Now? price is the high estimate of this lot. If you would like to end the auction early and pay the high estimate (plus applicable fees), please contact us by phone or email and reference this lot number.
