1931 Colt "Bankers Special" (2"), 38 S&W, Revolver, SN - 350522

Lot # 25

According to Colt Archives Serial Number Database, this "Bankers Special" was produced in 1931. HISTORY: The Colt Bankers Special is one of the most valuable of the small...more "modern" Colts. It is a small double-action revolver that was made from 1926 to 1943 with a very short barrel (2 inches). A total of only 35,000 were manufactured in the following calibers: 22 LR (very rare), 32 S&W Long, and 38 S&W (not 38 Special). Many non-collectors get confused because it says Banker's Special alongside the number 38 on the barrel, so they assume it must be 38 SPL. - no Banker Specials were ever chambered for 38 Special. The Banker's Special was the official side-arm of the U.S. Post Office railway clerks from 1928 until the 1940s. SPECS: This guns sports a standard 2" barrel, brown checkered Bakelite grips, serrated hammer, fixed sights and 6-shot swing-out cylinder. CONDITION: This gun is in beautiful condition with no wear to speak of, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore & appears to be in good working order. INTERESTING FACT: An interesting footnote to the Banker's Special is that on the 60s TV programs from Hollywood (77 Sunset Strip and the FBI series) Efraim Zimbalist Jr. carried a Banker's Special. He was not a large man, so all other revolvers that were put in his hand made him look even smaller. Someone purchased a Banker's Special in the 32 Long Colt caliber and that is what he carried for the duration of those shows.

U.S. Civil War Presentation Cane - 84th Illinois Infantry Regiment

Lot # 28

This original U.S. Civil War Era presentation can is inscribed on the handle - "PRESENTED TO ROBERT EVERETT BY COMRADES OF 84TH REGT ILL VOL". The following information i...mores Courtesy of the Western Illinois University Archives Department - Robert Everett was 47 years old when he joined the Union on Sept. 1, 1862, one of 19 men to sign up from Young America (Kirkwood). Most of the others in the IL 84th, Co. G were from Henderson County. A reasonable guess for him to sign up at that age was because his son James, 20, signed up as well. Robert was listed as a blacksmith prior to enlistment. He was stationed at Corps Headquarters most of the time. He kept the rank of private throughout the war and mustered out June 8, 1865, with his son and the remainder of the company. He died in 1902 at the age of 86 and is buried in the Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood, Illinois. Because of his age, it is reasonable to assume that he was regarded as a "father figure" to the younger men in this regiment. It is worth mentioning that an "Everett" from the Illinois 84th was listed as wounded during the Atlanta Campaign - no first name. The 84th saw a ton of action in some major battles including Stone's River, Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, the Atlanta Campaign, Franklin and Nashville. This was a "battle hardened" group. The 84th Illinois Infantry was organized at Quincy, Illinois, and mustered into Federal service on September 1, 1862. The regiment was mustered out on June 8, 1865, in Nashville, Tennessee and discharged on June 16, 1865. Engagements: Battle of Perryville, Battle of Stone's River, Battle of Chickamauga, Siege of Chattanooga, Battle of Lookout Mountain, Battle of Missionary Ridge, Battle of Resaca, Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Siege of Atlanta, Battle of Franklin and Battle of Nashville. SPECS: This cane measures 37" in overall length with a gold/ gilded handle, wooden shaft, silver ferrule and steel tip. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This cane comes with a booklet of scanned information regarding Robert Everett and the 84th Illinois - Courtesy of Western Illinois University. Shipping Cost: $30.00, or free with any gun purchase, or free pick up.

The Colt Navy remained in production until 1873, being replaced in the Colt line with what would become one of the manufacturer's most famous handguns, the Colt Single Action Army. The six-round .36-caliber Navy revolver was much lighter than the contemporary Colt Dragoon Revolvers developed from the .44 Walker Colt revolvers of 1847, which, given their size and weight, were generally carried in saddle holsters. The Model 1851 Navy became very popular in North America at the time of Western expansion. It was used extensively throughout the U.S. Civil War and most commonly issued to cavalry and artillery units. Famous "Navy" users included Wild Bill Hickok, William Buffalo Bill Cody, John Henry "Doc" Holliday and Ulysses S. Grant.

1972 Marlin Model 1895 Carbine (22"), 45-70 Govt., Lever-Action, SN - BO09713

Lot # 39

The serial number on this Marlin Model 1895 Carbine (45-70 Govt.) reflects a 1972 production date. This was the first year of the re-introduction, aka "New Model". SPECS:...more 22" round barrel, smooth walnut stock with oiled finish, adjustable elevator semi-buckhorn rear sight, dovetailed brass bead front sight, black checkered buttpad with embossed Marlin logo, half length magazine tube and sling studs. CONDITION: This gun is in nice condition with very light wear, has a perfect sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The first Marlin Model 1895 debuted in 1895 and was virtually identical to the company’s 1893 model, except the newer model was scaled up to better handle larger cartridges. The 1893 model was brought about by Lewis London (L.L.) Hepburn as an improvement over his Model 1889 rifle. It was offered in barrel lengths of 26" (Rifle) 22" (Carbine) and in 1897 a 15" barreled model was offered. A major distinction of the Marlin rifle over the Winchester was its square-like bolt and side ejection and solid-top receiver. The top tang of the Model 1895 was drilled and tapped for a peep sight. In 1903 Marlin began drilling and tapping the top of the receiver for its Hepburn Receiver Sight. The final Marlin model 1895 was manufactured in 1917 with a gap until 1972 when the rifle was re-introduced, dubbed the "New Model 1895". The 1st models in 1972 sold for $185 U.S. The "New Model 1895" was available from 1972 - 1980 (straight stocked with squared lever) and has become highly desirable among collectors.

Cottle - U.S. Inspector) on the left side of the barrel at the breech and various sub-inspector stamps to include "C" (four stamps), "V", "P" (two stamps), "M". SPECS: 20" Round barrel, walnut stock with checkered forearm, adjustable folding tangent rear sight, saddle bar with ring, 7-round stock fed magazine tube, stabler cutoff and sling ring. CONDITION: This gun is showing age, but appears to be all original, in good working order with a two click action and has a sharp/ clean bore. HISTORY: Introduced in 1860, the Spencer rifle combined a rolling breech block with a seven-shot tubular magazine in the buttstock that was cycled with a lever action, a truly advanced design in an era where two to three shots per minute was the norm for a typical infantry muzzleloader. Christopher Spencer patented the design and commissioned prototypes of his rifle, with Connecticut ammunition makers Crittenden & Tibbals. The Civil War provided enormous opportunities for gunmakers, but the Army’s Ordnance Department was slow to embrace Spencer's new technology. In a December 9, 1861, letter from Union Brigadier-General James Ripley, Chief of Ordnance, to Secretary of War, Simon Cameron, Ripley opposed the adoption of the Spencer rifle for numerous reasons, including the ammunition. “I regard the weight of the arms with the loaded magazine as objectionable, and also the requirement of a special ammunition, rendering it impossible to use the arms with ordinary cartridges or with powder and ball.” The cost of the new rifle & carbines were also a contributing factor to the slow arrival of the Spencer Rifle on the battlefield. However, President Lincoln was in favor of the weapon, and in the fall of 1863, the first Model 1860 carbines were finally accepted by the Union, starting at about serial number 11,000. In 1863, the popular Springfield Model 1861 muzzleloading rifle cost less than $15.00, whereas the Spencer rifle cost up to $40.00, and the Henry repeating rifle retailed for $44.00. For reference, the average soldier’s pay at the time was less than $14.00 per month. Though bulk contracts could slightly reduce the price of Spencer rifles, the $25.00 price tag offered to the Ordnance Department for the first 7,500 Spencer carbines in late 1863 demonstrated why this model quickly became the standard, and outsold the Spencer rifle 8 to 1 by the war's end. The years after the Civil War saw the U.S. Cavalry assigned to various outposts on the frontier, and in 1866, four additional cavalry regiments were organized for frontier duty with the last two being the U.S. Ninth and 10th Cavalries, better known as “Buffalo Soldiers.” They, along with the rest of the Army, tried to maintain order and protect against hostile Indian attacks. The M1865 Spencer carbine was the standard in post-war service and remained in service into the middle 1870s.

1922 Colt "Army Special", 38 Special, Revolver (W/ Holster), SN - 479598

Lot # 42

According to the Colt Archives serial number database, this Army Special (38 Special) revolver was made in 1922. SPECS: This gun features a 6" barrel, checkered hard rubb...moreer grips with embossed "COLT", fixed sights, serrated hammer and 6-shot swing-out cylinder. CONDITION: This gun is in good condition with some various light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. This gun comes with a Brauer Bro's brown leather holster. HISTORY: The Army Special double-action revolver began life in 1908 as an improvement over the New Army & Navy 1892-1903 models, which tended to bind up and get out of time due, in part, to their counterclockwise cylinder rotation. Taking inspiration from Colt’s rugged New Service revolver, the Army Special was given a stronger action, a revamped cylinder release latch, a “Positive Safety Lock” and clockwise cylinder rotation. They were offered in 4", 4.5", 5" and 6" barrel lengths. Colt soon realized that more Army Specials were being purchased by police departments than by the military. Thus, in 1927, the revolver’s name was strategically changed to the Official Police which was produced until 1969. These revolvers sported finely crafted actions which became the foundation for Colt’s most celebrated medium-frame revolvers, including the Python.

1961 Colt Junior, 25 ACP & 22 SHORT Conversion Kit (W/ Boxes), SN - 9875CC

Lot # 44

According to the Colt Archives serial number database, this "Junior Colt" pistol was produced in 1961. SPECS: 2.25" barrel, blued finish, checkered walnut grips with Ramp...moreant Colt silver medallion inlays, round serrated hammer and 6-round magazine. CONDITION: This gun is in nice condition with light wear, has a sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: Colt introduced the Junior in 1957, with production beginning in 1958. Production was done in Spain, with over 40,000 pistols made, until 1968 when the Gun Control Act halted importation of non-sporting firearms. Faced with cutting off their supply, Colt took the decision to manufacture the Junior in the U.S. After a two year gap in production, Colt was able to arrange a workaround with the Florida-based company Firearms Import & Export (FIE) importing Spanish parts to assemble in the U.S. Production resumed between 1970 and 1972. The original Spanish-made guns have a ‘CC’ serial number suffix, while the American-assembled Juniors have ‘OD’ prefixes. In 1973, Colt discontinued sales of the Junior. However, Firearms Import & Export (FIE) continued to produce and sell the pistols as ‘The Best’ into the 1980s.

1 OF 200 Walther PPK/S-1 Engraved By Gustav Ernst, 380 ACP, Semi-Auto, SN - 4109BAU

Lot # 48

These Special Edition pistols were the last 200 Walther PPK/S's made under contract by the S&W Houlton, Maine factory. These pistols were hand engraved by famous German E...morengraver Gustav Ernst. The stunning Germanic style Ernst pattern engravings on the stainless slide are centered with a gold deer on the left side. The grips are a walnut laminate with the Walther logo and a reflection of the slide design in the center. This pistol is #056 Of 200, which is marked on the right side of the frame. SPECS: 3.3" barrel, full stainless finish, round serrated hammer, serrated rib with dovetailed rear sight, rear slide serrations with thumb safety and comes with (2) 7-round magazines. Does not include box. CONDITION: This gun is in same-as-new condition with no wear, has a perfect sharp/ clean bore (possibly unfired) and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The Walther PP (Police Pistol) is a blowback-operated semi-automatic pistol that was developed by the German arms manufacturer, Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen, and introduced in 1929. The Walther double-action Model PPK (Police Pistol - Detective Model) is a smaller version of the original Model PP with a shorter grip, barrel, frame, and reduced magazine capacity. The PP and the PPK were among the world's first successful double action semi-automatic pistols. The design inspired other pistols, among them the Soviet Makarov, the Hungarian FEG PA-63, the Polish P-64, the American Accu-Tek AT-380 II, and the Argentinian Bersa Thunder 380. The PP and PPK were both popular with European police and civilians for being reliable and concealable. During World War II, they were issued to the German military (officers), including the Luftwaffe, as well as the uniformed Ordnungspolizei and plain clothes detectives of the Kriminalpolizei. Adolf Hitler killed himself with his PPK (.32 ACP/7.65mm) in the Fuhrerbunker in Berlin, and secret agent James Bond used a Walther PPK in many of the novels and films. In 1952, Walther licensed the French firm Manurhin (Manufacture de Machines du Haut-Rhin), who was already suppling parts to Walther, to also manufacture the PP, PPK, and PPK/S. The PPK/S combines the PP's frame with the PPK's barrel and slide to create a pistol that weighed slightly more than the PPK which provided the extra weight needed for U.S. import laws.
