CONDITION: This rifle is in same-as-new condition with no wear to speak of, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. This gun comes with the original owner's manual & scope box. Does NOT include magazine or rifle box. REVIEW: Traditionally, Ruger has not been known as a “tactical” gun maker, but the newly designed SR556 Autoloading Piston Rifle is changing that. It uses a short-stroke non-venting operating system that uses an internal piston in the gas block and a spring-loaded transfer rod to drive the carrier. It is their own design and is receiving rave reviews from the shooting community. The barrel is tough and accurate. It is hammer forged out of 41V45 steel and chrome-lined with a 1:9 twist. The accuracy is spot on and has been battle tested in some of the harshest environments in the world. Ruger has clearly made a decision here that the majority of shooters would prefer a 1:9 twist barrel as opposed to a 1:7 twist, because it will fully stabilize all the common ammo, everything from 68 grains on down. It won’t over-spin the varmint loads. It may even, depending on the individual rifle, stabilize the 75- and 77-grain loads. Disassembly of the gas system is simple: push out the piston regulator retaining pin and the parts will simply come out the front. The transfer bar, and its spring, won’t come out. They are part of the gas block, which is a very nice feature. Ruger designed the SSR556 as a premium rifle that was also user friendly, and they may have just nailed it! DISCLAIMER: In 2023, Illinois passed a law banning the sale and purchase of semi-automatic "assault weapons" and large-capacity ammunition feeding devices. This law defines more than 170 different models of firearms, including this one. Illinois residents may NOT participate in this lot. As an Illinois dealer, we will not do transfer paperwork on this gun. It will need to be shipped to, or picked up by, a licensed dealer.
