According to the Weatherby Serial Number Collection Chart, this Mark V rifle was produced in the early 1960s. SPECS: Stained walnut stock with skip-line diamond pattern c...moreheckering/ fluted high comb with raised cheek & glossed finish, Rosewood forearm tip with white spacer, Rosewood grip cap with diamond inlay & white spacer, original Weatherby "South Gate" black rubber buttpad with black/ white spacers, 26" barrel with recessed muzzle, jeweled bolt & shell lifter, hinged floorplate marked "WEATHERBY CUSTOM" with floral scroll engravings, Buehler receiver mounted two-piece scope mounts, sling studs, checkered bolt handle and grooved trigger. CONDITION: This rifle is in nice condition with some various light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: Roy Weatherby and his head engineer, Fred Jennie, developed the Mark V over several years, starting with the first prototype in 1957. The Mark V was designed to withstand the higher pressures of experimental cartridges which could exceed 100,000 pounds per square inch. The first Mark V actions were manufactured in the United States by Pacific Founders, Inc., and then assembled and finished at Weatherby's facility in South Gate. In 1959, J.P. Sauer and Sohn in West Germany took over production of the Mark V due to cost issues in the United States. In 1969, Weatherby turned to Howa of Japan for production of both right- and left-hand actions. Today, the Mark V is built in Weatherby's facility in Paso Robles, California. The Mark V has a unique nine-lug and six-lug bolt design, a lockup design borrowed from naval cannons, and a stock hand-selected from claro walnut. HISTORY: In 1982, Schuetzen Gun Works (SGW) began manufacturing AR-15/M16 rifles and components under the trade name Olympic Arms, Inc. Olympic Arms was one of the first companies to introduce several features that are now common on AR-15 rifles, including free floating aluminum hand guards. On February 28th, 2017, Olympic Arms announced that they would be closing the business. However, they continued to sell parts and fill orders in a limited capacity until 2020, when they finally ceased all operations.
