1958 Winchester, Model 77, 22 LR Cal., Semi-Auto, SN - 85471

Lot # 50

The Winchester Model 77 was introduced in 1955 alongside the Model 88 lever-action rifle as "centennial models" of sorts (it was Winchester's 100th anniversary that year)...more. Featuring "Centennial Styling", the Model 77 was touted in that it assured "squirrel rifle accuracy in a modern fast-shooting firearm". It was discontinued in 1963 along with all of Winchester's other semi-automatic .22 caliber rifles and the Model 77 has no direct successor. This Model 77 was made in 1958 and features a smooth walnut stock with oiled finish, detachable box magazine, 22" barrel, adjustable elevator rear sight and dovetail front sight. 1956 Browning Belgium, SA-22, 22 LR Cal., Semi-Auto, SN - 9391

Lot # 51

The Browning 22 Semi-Auto is a takedown rifle produced by FN Herstal/ Browning based on a John Browning patent. Production began in 1914 and continued through 1973 in Bel...moregium and production continued in 1974 in Japan by Miroku. It was first exported for the American market in 1956. The SA-22 was the first production semi-automatic rifle chambered in .22 LR caliber and is regarded as a classic firearm. It has been offered in several "grades" of engraving and gold inlay, and is a widely collected gun, especially those manufactured in Belgium. The Semi-auto .22 is a made from blued steel and walnut, and ejects spent cases downward. This feature was intended by the designer to keep the user's face "protected from gasses and flying particles while firing", at which it succeeds especially for smaller people. Downward-ejected hot spent cases can become trapped in a shirt sleeve, so care should be taken to avoid this with proper hand placement on the forend. The rifle was intended for a wide age range, and period advertisements recommend the rifle both for adult usage as well as appropriate for youth shooters. The lack of a side-mounted ejection port also leaves a large "canvas" for engraving. Factory engraving was done by hand at FN Herstal. This SA-22 was made in Belgium circa 1956, although no exact factory records exist from 1956-1961, and features a checkered walnut stock, factory hand engraved receiver, 19" barrel, adjustable thumbwheel rear sight and dovetail front sight. This gun is showing some wear but is in original condition with a sharp/ clean bore.

1950's Marlin, Model 56 "Finger Flicker", 22 LR Cal., Lever-Action

Lot # 70

The Model 56 is a box magazine fed .22LR repeating rifle that was part of the "Levermatic" series that was introduced in 1955 by Marlin and discontinued in 1964. The desi...moregn of these rifles was very unique because the lever action movement needed to open and close the action is only 2" compared to the 6" normally needed on Marlin's other lever-action rifles. With that small amount of movement the shooters hand could stay in place on the stock and operate the action with only "flicking" their fingers, which gave it the unofficial nicknames "Finger Flicker" or "Half Cock". Features include a smooth one-piece walnut stock, 22" barrel, 7-round box magazine, adjustable rear sight, ramped dovetail front sight and sells complete with original Bushnell 4x Banner scope. This gun is showing it's age but it has a sharp bore and a good tight action.
