Post-War U.S. M4 Bayonet/ Fighting Knife By Turner (For M1 Carbine) With M8A1 Scabbard

Lot # 281

Although the M4 bayonet was issued in significant numbers during the Second World War, it saw service almost exclusively as a knife. Very few M1 Carbines equipped with ba...moreyonet lugs ever made it to the field before War's end. It wasn't until the Korean War, that the M4 saw service as a bayonet, revealing several design issues. Breakage of the guard was addressed by guard modifications developed by Springfield Armory in 1952. Manufacturing of the "Second Production" M4s was granted to four independent U.S. contractors starting in 1954: Imperial Knife Co.: 1954, Turner Manufacturing Co.: 1954–56, Conetta Manufacturing Co.: 1966–69, Bren-Dan Manufacturing Co.: 1971–72. This "Second Production" M4 bayonet was produced by Turner Manufacturing Co. and sports a 6.75" blade with an overall length of 11.5" and is crossguard marked "U.S. M4/ TMN". This bayonet comes with an original scabbard marked "USM8A1/ P.W.H." (Pennsylvania Working Home For The Blind) on the front. The scabbard is constructed of cloth-reinforced, pressure molded plastic with a steel throat and green canvas belt loop with snap and wire hook. Shipping cost $20.00, or free with any gun purchase or free pick up.
