Early 1900s Kolb "Baby Hammerless" - Small Frame First Model (1.25"), 22 Short, Revolver

Lot # 439

Henry M. Kolb was born in 1861 in Philadelphia, and was first listed in the city directory in 1895 as a machinist, and then in 1901 as a maker of revolvers. The first adv...moreertisement for his Baby Hammerless revolver was in the October, 1899, issue of Forest and Stream where it was being retailed by Iver Johnson Sporting Goods of Boston. Kolb’s business, which was simply called Henry M. Kolb, became Henry M. Kolb & Company in 1910. Kolb retired from the firearm's industry late in 1915. His little revolver was only 4" long overall with a 1.25" barrel. In 1910, the Kolb Baby Hammerless was likely the smallest repeating firearm ever produced. These guns were offered in a few different calibers, including .22LR and 32 S&W Short. However, the Small Frame First Model came in .22 Short. These little guns became very popular and trendy in the early 1900s. Gentlemen and even ladies of the era could drop one in their pocket and have something to deal with ruffians of all types. They didn't take any effort to carry, and at this time period, it bears mentioning that holsters weren’t designed with concealment in mind. This Kolb Baby Hammerless sports a nickel finish and black hard rubber birds head grips with embossed "K" logo. This gun is showing some age, but appears to be in good working order. This gun is from the Terry Lee Brown Estate.
