1947 Remington 31-TC (Trap C-Grade), 12 Ga. (30" FULL), Pump, SN - 91631

Lot # 50

This Remington Model 31-TC (Trap C-Grade) was made in October, 1947 (ESS date code). Features include a glossed dark walnut stock with fluted comb/ double outlined checke...morering & contoured forearm, Pachmayr brown rubber buttpad with black/ white spacers, black metal grip cap with fleur-de-lis design, 30" FULL barrel, serrated vent rib with white mid-bead & fiber-optic front sight, 13.5" LOP and 2 3/4" chamber. This gun is in nice condition with some various light wear and appears to be in good working order. The Remington Model 31 pump-action shotgun was produced from 1931 to 1949. The design was based on the best attributes of the Remington Model 17 but with side ejection and a simpler design than the previous models. It was initially offered in 12-gauge with 16- and 20-gauge added in 1933. Like the Model 17, the barrel was easily removed by way of a knurled nut at the end of the magazine tube. It competed well with Winchester’s iconic Model 12. However, its 1931 introduction coincided with the lowest point of the Depression which was a very tough time to start production of a high quality, relatively high-cost shotgun. Remington’s retail price for the Model 31 was $48.95 while Winchester had just dropped the price of the Model 12 to $39.50. The Model 31 was made in 35 variations and grades from the Standard Grade to the TF Premier Grade. Higher grades were offered with factory engraving and a ventilated rib which sold for $302 in 1931. Most grades could be ordered with a number of special options. The Model 31 was discontinued in 1948 for the same reason the Winchester Model 12 was dropped 14 years later — production cost was too high and profit margins too low. The two guns, which represented the pump-action’s pinnacle of design, craftsmanship, function and beauty, were dropped in favor of more easily manufactured and more profitable designs.

2000 Colt Anaconda Stainless (8"), 44 Magnum, Revolver, SN - AN11323

Lot # 51

According to the Colt Archives serial number database, this Anaconda was made in 2000. Features include a stainless finish, 8" ported lugged barrel with shrouded ejector ...morerod, vent rib, fully adjustable rear sight pinned to the channel, dual pinned Patridge front sight, black textured rubber combat grips, serrated hammer and grooved trigger. This gun is in beautiful condition with no wear to speak of, has a perfect bore and appears to be in good working order. This gun comes in a period correct blue Colt hardcase without a label. Introduced in 1990, the Colt Anaconda is a large-frame, double-action revolver with a full-lugged barrel and six-round cylinder. It marked Colt's first entry into the large-bore magnum revolver market. With its larger 'MM' frame, the Anaconda was meant to compete with other .44 Mag. revolvers on the market like the Smith & Wesson Model 29 and Ruger Redhawk. The design layout of the Anaconda and other "Snake Guns" were largely the work of a Colt engineer by the name of Paul LaViolette. Unfortunately, the Anaconda would not enjoy the popularity or praise that its other "Snake Gun" counterparts did. By the time the Anaconda was introduced to the market, its competitor handguns were well established with some having been available 30 years before the release of the Anaconda. Thus, the Anaconda was late for the .44 Mag. market and missed the craze that came with it. Because of this, original production Anacondas (1990 to 2003) have exploded in the collector's market in recent years. In 2021, Colt re-introduced the Anaconda using a new design with an oversized Python action.

Factory serial numbers for the Model 101 after 1971 do not exist, but the serial number on this gun reflects an approximate production year of 1975. This gun is in nice condition with some various light wear and appears to be in good working order. Winchester introduced the Model 101 in 1959 in order to compete with the Browning Superposed. In both guns, a rectangular locking bar travels forward from low in the standing breech of the receiver to engage a recess at the foot of the barrel monobloc. The Model 101 also has the H-pattern combination safety and barrel selector of the Superposed.

This gun is in nice condition with some light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. (Scarce) 1972 Smith & Wesson Model 53-2 (4") 22 Rem. Jett, Revolver (Box/ Paperwork), SN - 2K93212

Lot # 57

The Smith & Wesson Model 53 was introduced in 1961 and chambered for the .22 "Remington Jet". This unusual revolver from Smith & Wesson was an innovative solution to bein...moreg able to fire both rimfire and centerfire cartridges from the same gun. By utilizing nickel wash coated steel insets which fit into the chambers of the cylinder, it is adaptable to .22 Long Rifle. The hammer is outfitted with a switch which selects either the centerfire or rimfire firing pin. According to the Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson's book, this Model 53-2 was made in 1972. Features include a 4" ribbed barrel, high luster polished bluing, grooved casehardened trigger, serrated casehardened hammer, checkered walnut Magna-Style grips with S&W medallions, 10-groove rear strap, shrouded extractor rod, adjustable rear sight pinned to the channel and Patridge front sight. This comes in the original presentation style box with (6) steel insets, "Special Instructions" hangtag and cleaning kit. This gun is in beautiful condition with no wear to speak of, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. The concept of a revolver that could fire a centerfire .22 caliber cartridge began in the mid-1950s when avid handloader and experimenter, Jim Harvey, modified .22 Hornet rifle cases by shortening and chamber-forming them to a configuration suitable for use in revolvers. Smith & Wesson took notice of Harvey’s pioneer work but never officially sanctioned these conversions for their revolvers. They did experiments with some prototype guns chambered for the then-new .256 Winchester cartridge, a .25 caliber bottlenecked .357 Magnum creation. However, the folks at S&W found out that this combination was unworkable because of case setback in the chambers locking up the cylinder tight to the recoil shield when the round was fired. Remington offered S&W another option which was called the .22 Remington Jet. This was a .357 Magnum case gradually tapered down to .22 caliber rather than being sharply bottlenecked. This number proved to be more satisfactory in experimentation with revolvers that were rechambered and modified from .22 magnum rimfire guns. All Model 53 barrels were marked “22 MAGNUM”, which is very confusing – it doesn’t mean .22 rimfire magnum. Production started with the first gun bearing the serial number K429,000. It used the .357 Magnum Model 19 K-frame that utilized a shrouded ejector rod. The cylinders were fluted and counterbored (recessed) for the cartridge rims. The adapters can be inserted into the chambers instead of the centerfire rounds making the gun suitable for firing either .22 Jets or .22 LR rimfires. At the time of its initial shipping, the Model 53 already had the newer left-hand threaded extractor rod, while most other K-frame guns were transitioning to that type. When the first production change was made in December, 1961, using a new cylinder stop and eliminating the screw in front of the trigger guard, it was called the Model 53-2 rather than the 53-1 keeping it in step with other S&W revolvers. There never was a Model 53-1. In 1974, and after 14,956 Model 53s had been made, production was halted and they were dropped from the catalog. The last known Model 53 was shipped on February 14, 1979.

1936 (Pre-64) Winchester Model 52A "Marksman Match", 22 LR, Bolt-Action, SN - 42231A

Lot # 58

According to Winchester Arms Collector Organization, this Model 53 was made in 1936. Features include a smooth walnut Marksman "Match-Style" stock with carved-in finger g...morerip & thumb hole, lower forearm rail with palm grip & brown leather harness, adjustable fold-out Swiss-style buttplate, 27" heavy crowned barrel with 7/8" muzzle diameter, front globe sight, J.W. Fecker (R.A. Litschert) 10x scope, 8-round detachable box magazine and comes with period correct Wittek-Vaver rear dial fully adjustable sight. This gun is in nice condition with very light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. The Winchester Model 52 is a bolt-action .22-caliber target rifle introduced in 1920. For many years it was the premier small bore match rifle in the United States, if not the world. Known as the "King of the .22s," the Model 52 was ranked by Field & Stream as one of "the 50 best guns ever made" and described by Winchester historian Herbert Houze as "perfection in design". However, by the 1970s, the World War I-era design was showing its age and had given way in top-level competition to newer match rifles from Walther and Anschutz; the costly-to-produce Model 52, which had long been a loss leader prestige product by that time, was finally discontinued when US Repeating Arms took over the manufacture of Winchester rifles from Olin Corporation in 1980. It was produced in several styles and sub-variations (updates) which were noted by an alphabetic SN suffixes - A, B, C and D were applied specifically to changes. Sub-models & variations included: Speed Lock (1930), 52A (1935), 52B (1937), 52C (1951), 52D (1961), International Match (1969), and 52E (1969). Initially, the Model 52 was priced at $42.35 for a standard model. This was a substantial amount for a rimfire at the time. Extra-heavy barrels tacked on $25 to that price. The reason for these then exorbitant prices was the handwork that went into each rifle. Model 52s were given lavish hand fitting and tuning, and this was a significant reason that they were consistently winners in competition. From 1920 until 1980, 125,233 Model 52s were made, which may seem light, but recall that this was a high-end premium rifle.

1917 Winchester Model 1885 Low-Wall "Winder Musket", 22 LR, Falling-Block, SN - 119360

Lot # 62

According to Winchester Arms Collector Organization, this Model 1885 Low-Wall "Winder Musket" was made in 1917. Features include a 3/4 length walnut stock with straight g...morerip & grooved forearm, 28" barrel, curved metal buttplate, adjustable folding ladder rear sight, ramped dovetail front sight and sling rings. This gun is in good condition with some various light wear, has a sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. The Winder Musket was a .22-caliber training rifle used by the U.S. Army in the early 20th century. It was the brainchild of Colonel C. B. Winder who advocated marksmanship training with a rifle of similar size and weight to a service rifle but chambered in .22 rimfire which was both economical and suitable for indoor ranges. It was made by Winchester and was based on their Model 1885 single-shot falling-block rifle. Although it was never officially referred to as the "Winder Musket", the weapon was informally named in honor of Colonel C. B. Winder. Many Winder Muskets that were purchased by the United States Ordnance Dept. were issued to American N.R.A. affiliated rifle clubs. The Winder musket was superseded by the 1922 Model bolt-action as a training rifle. It was produced as a "high wall" version and a "low wall" version, with the name referring to the height of the side walls of the action alongside the falling block and the hammer.

The Browning 22 Semi-Auto rifle, also known as the SA-22, was the first production semi-automatic rifle chambered in .22 LR caliber. Production began in 1914, and is still being produced today. From the beginning, the SA 22 was a high-end rifle. The receiver was forged, the relatively massive bolt was beautifully machined, and the stock was nicely finished from European walnut, and hand checkered. It was a svelte rifle, capable of being shot accurately by even a relatively young boy. The rifle was a takedown—flip the rifle over, hold the bolt slightly open with the thumb of one hand, retract the locking button with the other thumb, turn the barrel assembly 90 degrees and it came apart nicely without anything threatening to fly out of the gun under spring pressure. In addition to being easily portable, this feature allowed the rifle to be cleaned from the breech.
