Each Commemorative was issued as a reproduction of an historically famous gun model or to honor an historically significant person, group, event or institution relating to U.S. or Canadian history. The Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1910, and since then, about 110 million Americans have participated in BSA programs. BSA is part of the international Scout Movement and became a founding member organization of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922. The stated mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to "prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law." Youth are trained in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities. Called by some the best rifle Winchester has made since 1964, the rimfire Model 9422 XTR (XTR = Extra) lever action was introduced in 1972. Engineered to utilize a modified version of Winchester super-reliable Model 61 slide-action rimfire mechanism but mirror the look and feel of the legendary Model 1894 centerfire lever-action rifles, it was a rip-roaring success. Because the ejection port is high on the right side, the action is an angle-eject design that doesn't interfere with mounting an optic, the first lever action of its type from Winchester.

1 Of 250 - 1997 Winchester 9422 High Grade "25th Anniversary", 22 S L LR, (NIB), SN - FTFM162

Lot # 80

This Winchester Model 9422 High Grade lever-action rifle is one of 250 produced in 1997 to commemorate the 9422's 25th "Silver" Anniversary. Features include a specially ...moreengraved receiver with high luster bluing & selective silver plating, checkered American walnut stock with high gloss finish, 20.5" barrel with high luster bluing, black checkered buttpad, adjustable elevator semi-buckhorn rear sight, hooded ramp front sight, grooved receiver top, 15-round tube magazine and comes with a factory hammer thumb extension. This gun is from a former firearms wholesale distributor and is new-old-stock (unfired), comes in original box with hangtag, is in beautiful condition with no box wear to speak of and appears to be in good working order. In 1972, Winchester Repeating Arms Company had just invested a large amount of money in computer-controlled manufacturing equipment that would help to update their sadly antiquated plant in New Haven, Connecticut. Embarrassed that economy moves had cheapened many of their firearms and tarnished Winchester's reputation for quality, the management sought to make a new flagship .22 rifle that would erase that image and reflect quality in every respect. The result was the Model 9422, and it did indeed revitalize Winchester's reputation. Although now no longer made, this lever action look-alike to the time-honored Model 94 .30-30 has become a sought-after modern classic. Winchester spared no expense in making the rifle as perfect as possible. The best materials were used; a milled forged steel frame and internal parts and a walnut stock were standard. The rifle was attractive, reliable, and accurate. Careful bluing and fitting were employed. Although traditional open sights were utilized, the receiver was grooved for scope mounting if desired. Following the Model 61 precedent, the rifle could be taken down into two major assemblies plus the bolt, allowing cleaning from the breech to protect the muzzle from damage. All in all, the new gun could easily be termed a masterpiece. In 1997, a 25-year Anniversary Edition was produced in limited quantities and offered in two grades - High Grade (250 Produced) and Grade I (2500 produced). Due to the very low production run, these "Silver Anniversary" Editions have become extremely sought after by collectors.

The K-22 became a wonderful training tool for those who carried the .38 Special (and later, Magnum) K-Frames. Introduced in 1949, the K-22 Combat Masterpiece Model 18 was an exact duplicate of the K-38 Combat Masterpiece (or Model 15), with a 4" barrel. Over the years, this rifle & carbine would be chambered in .25-36, .30-30, .32 Special, .32-40, and .38-55. It was offered in barrel lengths 24" to 32" (at 2" intervals), and a 20" Carbine.

The Winchester Model 1894, or Model 94, is a lever-action repeating rifle & carbine that became one of the most famous and popular hunting rifles of all time. It was designed by John Browning in 1894, and originally chambered to fire two metallic black powder cartridges, the .32-40 Winchester and .38-55 Winchester. It was an almost instant success for Winchester. Its lightweight, compact design paired with the power packing punch, quickly made it popular among hunters. Its success was pushed even further during World War I after the U.S. Army signed an order for 1,800 rifles to members of the Signal Corps stationed in the Pacific Northwest. The Winchester Model 1894 went to war again during World War II, this time in the hands of the Canadian Pacific Coast Rangers guarding against Japanese invasion along the West Coast of Canada. One of the best-selling lever action rifles in American history, the Winchester Model 1894 hit the one million mark in 1927.

1965 Marlin Model 39A Golden Mountie (20"), 22 S L LR, Lever-Action, SN - AA28098

Lot # 96

This Marlin Model 39A Golden Mountie 22 caliber lever-action rifle was produced in 1965 (SN - "AA" = 1965). Features include a smooth walnut stock with fluted comb & glos...mores finish, black checkered buttpad with white spacer, gold trigger, 20" Micro-Groove barrel, adjustable elevator rear sight, ramped dovetailed bead front sight, sling rings, 15-round tube magazine, quick take-down screw on the right side of the receiver, and sports a Bushnell Sportview 3-9x32 scope with mounted red-dot laser. This gun is in nice condition with light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. The Marlin 39A is the oldest and longest continuously produced shoulder firearm in the world. It started life as the Marlin Model 1891, the first lever-action rifle ever chambered in .22LR, and the magazine was loaded through a conventional side gate in the receiver. Due to updates, it became the Model 39 in 1921 and Model 39-A in 1939. The Golden Mountie Model 39A was introduced in 1954 and produced at various points in the rifle's life. The Mountie featured a 20" barrel, as opposed to 24", and a straight stock. Since the early 1950s Marlin has used their proprietary Micro-Groove rifling in the Model 39A. This rifling uses many small lands and grooves rather than 2, 4, or 6 deeper grooves used by the majority of rifle makers. The rifling is also made to a 1 in 16" right hand twist. The combination of these two factors arguably adds to the accuracy of the rifle, and indeed, the 39A's reputation would seem to bear this out. The Golden 39A is still considered one of the finest examples of a lever .22 rifle, and one of the most accurate .22 rifles ever produced.
