H. W. PETERS 14th U.S. Cavalry wooden
Civil War Era chest measuring 34" x 21" x 17", painted with white lettering showing age wear with crack in lid and some small losses. Paper included states as follows - In checking US Cavalry records for the period 1861 to 1895 there is only one individual with the last name Peters and the first and middle initials H.W.: Henry W Peters of St Louis MO. Henry W Peters enlisted into C Company (properly C Troop) of the 10th Missouri Cavalry (Confederate) in 1863 and served until sometime in 1865 at which time he enlisted, also as a Private, in D Company (properly) D Troop) of the 12th Missouri Cavalry (Union Forces). The 12th Missouri Cavalry moved to St Louis May 12-17 1865 thence to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and on to Omaha, Nebraska. They participated in the Powder River Expedition against Indians in Nebraska 1 July to 20 September and were heavily engaged at the Powder River 1 through 4 September. They travelled from Fort Connor to Fort Laramie, Wyoming 25 September to 4 October. They remained on frontier duty until April 1866. COL Nelson Miles of the 5th US Infantry from Fort Riley, Kansas, took elements of both Missouri and Illinois Cavalry Regiments and formed the 10th & 14th US Cavalry Regiments with which to fight the Kiowa & Southern Cheyenne warriors in the Texas panhandle and remained there until 1875 when both tribes surrendered. Ames Model 1833 Dragoon Sword/Saber
with scabbard. Blade is dated 1839 and on the reverse it is etched "United States". The quillon on the right side flat of the finial at the cross guard is stamped "WS" into the brass. The leather wrapping on the handle shows some losses and is missing the brass wire with the scabbard showing a few dents and missing the hanging rings. Armi Sport, Reproduction 1853 Enfield
BP musket, SN - E16076, .58 cal., 39" barrel, very good condition. Musket has case colored lock, hammer and barrel bands with a brass trigger guard, butt plate and muzzle cap. Ramrod is present along with a leather sling and a canvas bag. The bore has shine and shows dirt with the bluing appearing very strong except for at the muzzle from attaching and removing bayonet. There is slight freckling on the lock plate with a few very minor handling marks present most noticeable is on the right side just in front of the front barrel band. Martially marked Starr Arms Co., Model
1858 Army D.A. black powder revolver, SN - 222377, .44 cal., 6" barrel, "self cocking" double action, very good condition. The matching serial number is located both on the cylinder adn on the front of the frame just below the plunger. There are numerous inspectors markings present throughout with the left side of the frame being marked "STARR ARMS. CO. NEW YORK" and the left side being marked "STARR'S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856". A large majority of the bluing is present throughout the frame showing some scattered surface scratches with thinning to bluing on the barrel. The walnut grip bears an inspection mark on both sides in box with the right side being on the upper flat area and marked "RKW" with the left side being marked at the bottom edge faint but visible.
