(N) Highly Sought DWM 1898 Argentine Brass Maxim Machine Gun on Tripod (Curio & Relic).

Lot # 7 (Sale Order: 6 of 545)

Very attractive DWM manufactured Argentine Brass Maxim machine gun on original tripod. Tripod is serial number 170. Currently it has an 8mm German Maxim barrel (serial No. 9673 with Nazi proof) and an Imperial German proofed lock (serial No. 4094). Additional accessories include one original copper washed 7.65 mm barrel (serial No. A 189), and a Zeiss 2x by 12 optic (serial No. 1348). This brass gun, like nearly all registered in the United States has the 1909 modification to the sight for the later 7.65 ammunition. Jacket, top cover, feed block, fusee cover, and back plate all match the gun serial number. The Argentine brass Maxim machine gun is a magnificent display piece due to the copious amounts of brass which conveys the feel of old world craftsmanship and quality to any observer. The wooden roller feedblock and brass jacket and handles make them immediately recognizable. Water fill and drain caps are present and serviceable. Steam port cork not present. The tripod with this specimen has had the bicycle seat recovered in an attractive brown leather. Mechanics are crisp. Overall appearance and finish is fine to very fine with about 70% original blued finish turning to a brown patina on the sideplates with some thinning to a grey patina. Brass parts exhibit a pleasing patina with very clear and especially attractive markings on the fusee cover. Original wooden roller in feedblock in very good serviceable condition. 8mm barrel bore extremely fine, shiny and bright. 7.65 mm barrel surprisingly serviceable with fine clean shiny rifling. Optic is clear with leather eyepiece turning dark and starting to fade, yet remains supple. Steel parts of tripod exhibit about 95% coverage of olive green paint with intact and serviceable leather retention strap and recovered brown leather seat. Brass Maxim machine guns surface for sale very rarely and this one, with its especially nice tripod (hope somebody out there has the gun with matching serial number to the tripod), is sure to make a welcome addition to any advanced machine gun collector's collection. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. (N) Desirable Colt U.S. Navy 21/28 Overstamp Thompson Machine Gun with Police Markings (Curio & Reli

Lot # 8 (Sale Order: 7 of 545)

Attractive Colt Thompson marked on left side "US Navy Model of 1928", with overstamped "8" over "1" with typical other receiver markings with added Danville, Virginia Police department markings on left side of receiver over chamber. This indicates that this gun, like many others found its way to the police after it was released from the Navy. Stock exhibits "SPD 51" which indicates to this cataloger that the stock is likely from another police gun. Unmarked Cutts compensator. Lower assembly matches upper assembly. 1928 model parts inside receiver. Accessories include one 50 round "Bridgeport" drum and three 30 round magazines. Originally built as commercial guns when the Colt Model 1921 Thompson's were taken into service with the U.S. Navy they were retrofitted with a heavier actuator and different bolt and main spring to slow the rate of fire in accordance with Navy specifications. This was primarily an ammunition saving measure. The U.S. Navy markings were engraved above the model marking and the "1" was overstamped with an "8" to indicate this change. Subsequently when the Navy released these guns many found their way to various law enforcement agencies as evidently this one did. Overall appearance and finish very fine to extremely fine as refinished with a dark lustrous blue to include the trigger. Bolt and actuator are in the white. Buttplate does not appear to be refinished and has some slight scattered light pitting. Both drum and magazines have some light storage corrosion which should clean up. Mechanics are crisp with a very smooth action. Bore is very fine shiny and bright. Wood has some light handling marks and a couple of dings but still very attractive. A great specimen of the iconic Thompson with compensator and dual appeal as both a military and police collector's item. Wish it could talk... Most popular H&K combination of a four position auto-sear pack registered by Fleming in 9mm with additional configuration calibers .223 & .308. Tab & slot attachment at front of receiver with push-pin at rear with one piece buttstock. Host gun serial number TF-00172 is located under optics rail. Includes one 40 round & two 30 round curved magazines. Utility clip on left side of magazine housing. Burris fast fire optic on rail attached to top of receiver. Auto-sear pack is especially desirable, not only because it has a four position selector for semi, three shot burst, and full auto in addition to the safe position, but also because it may be detached and moved to different host guns in multiple calibers. Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine with original black hard coat finish showing only the slightest of handling marks. Composite forearm, handgrip & buttstock also extremely fine throughout. Large capacity magazine has stick-on label indicating MP5. Mechanics are fine. Bore is also fine, bright & shiny. Pretty hard to beat this firearm platform which has everything going for it that the modern machine gun enthusiast could ask for. (N) Extremely Rare Chinese Model T-24 Maxim Machine gun (Curio & Relic).

Lot # 14 (Sale Order: 13 of 545)

Extremely rare original Chinese Type 24 Maxim machine gun on original Chinese tripod, with AA spider sight. Immediately recognizable with its reversed (depending on your point of view) Swastika on fusee cover and top cover, the Chinese Type 24 maxim was manufactured as a copy of the German commercial Maxim. There are several features which set this model apart from the common MG-08 Maxim. Notably the gun has been lightened by designing the receiver to be shorter in height for a distance of 3-3/4 " back from the jacket. Correspondingly, the lock is shorter in height. Less metal, less weight. The backplate firing mechanism incorporates a "squeeze to fire" trigger mechanism with a flip-up safety. Current and previous registration forms indicate "Chinese Government Arsenal" as the manufacturer. Serial number "B4451" clearly visible on left sideplate with matching serial number on 8mm barrel. Fusee cover is serial number 3661. Otherwise the top cover and feedblock are serial number "B4551" with backplate "55" and 8mm lock "B4543". Tripod is numbered 17910. Rear sight bracket not present. Steam vent cork and chain not present. Retention screw for drain valve lever not present. Mechanics are crisp. Overall appearance and finish is fine to very fine with over 85% original blue finish remaining thinning to a gray and in some places a brown patina. Wooden handles also fine to very fine with some handling marks. Rh spade handle slightly bent at low arm. Water jacket has over 90% coverage of original green paint with no noticeable dents. Muzzle booster piston moves freely. Flash shield shows significant scale on rear side with non-matching green paint at front. Lock is extremely fine and clean. Bore is shiny and bright. Tripod retains over 95% green paint coverage with pleasing patina to original brass identification plate. Leather of seat and kneepads has been replaced with brown leather. An original C&R eligible fully transferable Chinese maxim still in 8mm is exceedingly rare. Most Chinese Maxim's were converted to 7.62x54R. To find a Chinese Maxim in good condition like this is a tremendous opportunity for the advanced Maxim collector or for a shrewd forward thinking investor. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER.
