Has a globe front sight with pinhead and an adjustable V notch rear sight. There are two dovetails with filler blanks 6" and 8.25" from the breech end of barrel. CONFEDERATE BELT WITH BUCKLE & CARTRIDGE BOX

Lot # 413 (Sale Order: 2 of 414)      

CONFEDERATE BELT WITH BUCKLE & CARTRIDGE BOX. Hand made Confederate cartridge box and leather belt with buckle. Box is made out of sheet copper riveted together with a wooden base and wood blocks that hold 19 rounds of pre-loaded ammo. Copper is screwed into the wood bottom with 18 screws. Top of the box is decorated with 4 stars and 21 round rivet heads. Lid closes with a spring loaded catch. Thick leather belt is decorated with 11 crosses and 6 vertical slits for adjustment. Buckle is an old style American eagle with E Pluribus Unum. This outfit has the look and feel of Texas on it and I’m sure it’s no accident that the buckle with E Pluribus Unum is mounted upside down. Johnson. 54 caliber smoothbore with 8" round barrel which is marked US over JCB over P on the left top and steel on the left flat near stock. Tang is dated 1854. Lock is marked US over IN Johnson in front of the hammer and MIDL tn CT 1854 in 3 lines behind the hammer. Brass mountings are bright and shiny, rest of metal is a mix of gray and brown. 1869 BRITTISH ENFIELD SNYDER CONVERSION. 36.5" barrel in 577 Snyder with fair bore. Lock is marked with a crown over U.N. behind the hammer and crown & arrow over 1869 over Enfield on the right side of the hammer. Various British proofs are stamped on the barrel and breechblock along with Roman Numeral III over the chamber. Stock is nicked and dented all over but still sound and crack-free. Cartouche on right side of buttstock is faint but still there. Metal is silver with some surface pitting. Estimated Value $600 - 800....more

FRANKFORD ARSENAL 1859 STAR GAUGE

FRANKFORD ARSENAL 1859 STAR GAUGE. Used in the manufacture of cannons. Comes in a mahogany case 5’ long, 6 5/8" wide and 5" deep. Has a brass plate that reads U.S. Frankford Arsenal 1859 Star Gauge in four lines. Inside are 3 round brass tubes. The first is about 58" long & is numbered from 10 to 44. It has an engraved scale in hundreths below a 2 3/8" ruled section. Below that is U.S. Frankford Arsenal Bridesburg PA in 3 lines. Second tube is 52" long with threaded steel extension & is numbered from 45 to 84. Third tube is 50" long and numbered from 85 to 123. Each number is 1 inch from the next and there are 4 quarter marks between them. There is a steel square rod with a round yoke in the center that the brass rods ride in. Both sides of the yoke are calibrated for 6 pdr, 12 pdr, 18 pdr, 24 pdr, 32 pdr, 42 pdr, 8 inch, 10 inch & 13 inch. Has 2 steel rings 4" in diameter, a brass 12" ruler and a set of 44 steel spacers that are calibrated to the inside bore diameter of each of the cannons produced at the arsenal. This set is in excellentcondition and it truly deserves to be in a museum. Estimated Value $4,000 - 6,000....more

16TH C. EUROPEAN DOUBLE HANDLED LANDSKNECHT. This is a massive original 16th century Landsknecht sword (bearing or great sword) from northern Europe. The hilt is iron with a 3" pommel, and a 9" leather wrapped handle. The cross guard is straight, with decorative tassels at the ends, spanning 13" across and has a 9" leather wrapped ricasso. Complete with a double edged blade, 2" across and tapering at the tip. The blade has good edges with some overall tarnish and pitting with very light signs of rusting, the leather on the ricasso and handle has some loss and aged wear; the pommel and hilt are in very good condition with some light pitting and surface tarnish. 63"W x 13"H. Estimated Value $8,000 - 12,000....more

MATCHED PAIR OF FLINTLOCK SEA SERVICE PISTOLS. Circa 1812, 69 caliber with 9.25" barrels. Brass mountings have very heavy grip caps with fixed iron lanyard ring. Browned barrels have small proof mark at rear section in front of the barrel tang. Locks have a small oval between the cock and frizzen spring that has what appears to be some arabic script. Wood stocks are generally good but one pistol has a 1" by 1/2" section of wood missing from right front side by the nosecap. Both pistols are missing one brass estucheon for wedge pin. Pistol with missing wood has a nail instead of wedge pin. You seldom see a matched set of large bore flintlock pistols like these. Estimated Value $3,000 - 5,000....more
