A native of Morristown, N.J., James Gallagher became Brother Matthew upon entering the Franciscan Order in 1956. Matthew learned his trade (his secular trade, that is) at the Newark School Fine Arts. Since graduation, he has become world-renowned for art pieces ranging from the simple to the complex and religiously profound. This example, measuring approximately 6” X 36”, is signed by the artist at the lower left.
