WWI Era USMC Mameluke

Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 696)      

WWI Era USMC Mameluke, 32'' blade, 37-1/2'' overall, in nickel-plated scabbard named to Jack W. Morrison, (MCSN: O-7964) early Marine Corps jet pilot, with rank of Major, who on 8 Feb. 1946 flew the P-59B out of Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Maryland. During WWII, Morrison was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for actions against the enemy Japanese forces in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Condition: Blade is excellent with some gold gilt remaining to brass crossguard. Scabbard shows light scuffs and dings; top retaining loop has come loose, and drag has been repaired with fiberglass. Lot of Two (2) WWII Era Case XX AAF Survival Machetes, 10'' blades, 15-3/8'' overall, both are blade marked ''CASE XX'', wood grips, steel rivets, one with a leather boot lace style wrist thong. Conditions range from good to very good overall. One retains approx. 75% blue to blade, surface rust to the tang and rivets, handle with impressions and oil darkening. The second machete with blade that has toned to silver gray, handle with very few minor impressions. Both show normal signs of age and wear; maker's marks remain clear. Est.: $125-$250/lot....more

U.S. Model 1910 Bolo, by Springfield Armory, 10-3/8'' bright blade marked ''SA/(Flaming Ordnance Bomb/1916'' and the reverse marked ''US/34480''; 15'' overall, walnut grips, thumb release scabbard catch, with a 1916 dated Rock Island Arsenal scabbard with leather tip and belt hangar. Condition is excellent, showing very little use compared to most bolos from this time period. Thumb release remains tight and functions properly. Grip shows very few marks from handling. Leather scabbard tip with light to just moderate scuffs and scratches; canvas body is excellent with only a few small scattered marks. Est.: $200-$300....more
