Ford Cortina 1600 Super

Item # 113

The second incarnation of the Cortina was designed by Roy Haynesand launched on 18th October, 1966, four years after the originalCortina. Although the launch was accompanied by the slogan 'NewCortina is more Cortina', the car, at 16 feet long, wasfractionally shorter than before. Its 2 1?2 inches of extra widthand curved side panels provided more interior space. Otherimprovements included a smaller turning circle, softer suspension,self-adjusting brakes and clutch together with the availability, onthe smaller-engined models, of a new five-bearing, 1300cc engine. Amonth later, in August, the 1300 received a new crossflow cylinderhead design making it more efficient, while a crossflow 1600replaced the 1500. The Cortina was Britain's most popular new carin 1967, achieving the goal that Ford had been trying to achievesince it set out to create the original Cortina back in 1962.Period reviews were favourable concerning both the styling andperformance. Again, two-door and four-door saloons were offeredwith base, Deluxe, Super, GT and, later, 1600E trims available. This very original Ford Cortina 1600 Super four-door saloon hashad four owners and covered 68,000 miles from new; less than 15,000miles since 1987. The first owner, Mr. F.T. Sainty, purchased thecar in November 1969 from Ford main agents, Wright of Cambridge; hekept the car until 1988 when it was bought by Mr. S. Scott who thensold it twenty two years later to Mr. P. Baitye. All these ownerslived in the Cambridge area; the last owner acquired the car in2014. Finished in light blue with blue interior, this Cortina issupplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificatewhich expires in May 2016, the original bill of sale and a filecontaining old registration documents and old MoT test certificateswhich confirm the  ownership and mileage.  This is a goodoriginal example which is ready to be used and enjoyed.?

Austin Morris Mini 1000

Item # 120

The original Mini is considered a British icon of the 1960s withits space-saving, front-wheel drive layout, allowing 80% of thecar's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage and was votedthe second most influential car of the 20th century, behind theFord Model T. The Mini Mk I had three major UK updates; the Mk. II,the Clubman and the Mk. III. Within these were a series ofvariations including an estate car, a pick-up and a van. Initially,Minis were marketed under the Austin and Morris names as the AustinSeven and Morris Mini Minor until Mini became a marque in its ownright in 1969.This remarkably well kept Mini 1000 automatic has been cared forthroughout its life, covering a mere 21,800 miles from new. Theoriginal owner, a Mrs. B. Elliot, purchased the car in June 1979for £3,139.59 from Kennings Motor Distributors of Derby. The carhad been undersealed and Cadillac protected by the factory beforebeing finished in works colours, Russet Brown, which has helped tokeep it in such condition to this day. The interior trim andheadlining are in fabulous order and the paintwork is certainly acredit to the car, as is the chrome detailing. However, she isn'tjust about good looks; indeed on a drive to and from Brooklands onMini day in March, this car didn't miss a beat.  Accompanyingthis vehicle is an impressive history file, including many old MoTCertificates (some warranting mileage) as well as a wealth ofservicing and repair bills and even the original bill of sale andreceipts. Original handbook and owner's workshop manual can also befound along with a current MoT test certificate valid until January2016. Having been garaged and looked after by its three ladyowners, this mini is a true collector's example with a supportinghistory to cement its place as a true classic. With a keenestimate, why not raise your hand for a real slice of Britishmotoring history…?

Jaguar XJ-S Cabriolet

Item # 124

That Jaguar's XJS will become a 'bona fide' classic is beyonddoubt. Launched in 1975, its twenty one year production life was atestimony to the excellence of its basic design. With all roundindependent, coil sprung suspension, power assisted rack and pinionsteering and disc brakes, its' excellent ride/handling balance wasjustly praised by the contemporary motoring press. The XJS'ssuperlative 5.3 litre developed some 295bhp in later fuel injectedform and when allied to automatic transmission gave authoritative150mph performance. The targa element of the car was oftenpreferred over the straight convertible as it added more torsionalrigidity and was therefore more enjoyable to drive than the laterconvertible.Originally registered on 1st November 1985, this XJ-S V12Cabriolet has been owned by the current vendor for the last 12years. Benefitting from a rear seat conversion, this cabriolet islargely in its original condition, including the starfish alloywheels. Finished in red, with magnolia leather trim and a blackroof, C914TBD is supplied with a V5 registration document, currentMoT test certificate and some service history. Fiat Nuova 500D

Item # 137

The Nuova 500 was designed by Dante Giacosa, who was alsoresponsible for its predecessor, the Cinquecento or Topolino(little mouse) as the public immediately christened it. The Nuovais a masterpiece of packaging; the rear-wheel drive, rear-enginedlayout leaving a remarkably uncluttered cabin with adequate roomfor four passengers, despite the diminutive length of just 9.74ft.At its introduction in 1957 the little Fiat was powered by atwin-cylinder engine of 479cc and just 13bhp, but by the time ofthe later 500 F the capacity had grown to 499.5cc and the output to22bhp - sufficient for a maximum speed of around 60mph combinedwith a fuel consumption of over 50mpg.This very solid, original 1965 Fiat 500D has recently beenimported from Genova, Italy where it has been repainted within thelast ten years and more recently has had new seat covers and doorcards fitted. It is now finished in white with a full length blackvinyl sunroof, whilst the contempory interior is in red andwhite.  It comes supplied with a V5C registration document, anMoT test certificate which expires in April 2016 and a copy of theItalian registration document. The vendor states the car starts andruns well.  Fiat 500s are quirky, fun and economical; it isdifficult to drive one without a smile on your face.?

Jaguar XJ-SC

Item # 138

That Jaguar's XJS will become a 'bonafide' classic is beyond doubt. Launched in 1975, its twenty-oneyear production life was a testimony to the excellence of its basicdesign. With all-round, independent, coil sprung suspension, powerassisted rack and pinion steering, disc brakes and its excellentride/handling balance; it was justifiably praised by thecontemporary motoring press. In 1983, the new 3.6-litre AJ6straight-six engine was introduced and also a new cabrioletversion, the XJ-SC.  In the XJ-SC, the coupé's rather smallrear seats were dispensed with making it a luxurious two-seater.The XJ-SC was not a pure convertible, instead having anon-removable centre targa-type structure and fixed cant railsabove the doors and the rear quarter windows. The six-cylinder carscan be identified by a gently raised section in the centre of thebonnet.  Between 1983 and 1987 the six-cylinder engined carswere only available with a five-speed manual transmission and afour-speed automatic (ZF 4HP22) offered from 1987 onwards alongwith improved fuel injection as used on the XJ40.This red XJ-SC is in excellent original condition and has hadbut two owners from new, being supplied to Mr. Robin Long ofTelford on 1st August 1986 and was originally registeredD555MOB. It was sold to Mr. Robert Whitehouse of Bromsgrove in June1988, who initially registered it in his company's name beforere-registering it in his own name. The car comes with the originalhandbooks, manufacturer's guarantee book and service record to1999, since when the car has covered just 4,000 miles. The car isfitted with the original Clarion radio cassette unit and theoriginal toolkit is present in the boot. A test drive showed thecar to perform superbly, with a very comfortable ride. There is ahistory file with previous MoT test certificates, a V5Cregistration certificate and the current MoT test certificate isvalid until April 2016, with no advisories.

RAM AC Shelby Cobra Replica

Item # 150

Ram Automotive cars, although similar in appearance to the otherCobra replicas, are totally different under the double-skinnedfibreglass shell. Instead of a ladder frame chassis, there is afull space frame which was developed in conjunction with the racecar constructors, Reynard. Adrian Cocking is the man behind RamAutomotive, an ex-Dax employee who left to set up his own business. The very nature of the Ram's chassis construction gives increasedrigidity over most ladder frames and offers benefits in the car'shandling. Jaguar top and bottom wishbones are hung onto the frontof the chassis and used in conjunction with up-rated road springsand dampers.  At the rear of the car, a modified Jaguar XJseries rear axle is used with narrowed drive-shafts. The spaceframe design offers the safety conscious a well braced body shell;there are many impact absorbing zones and the driver is surroundedby substantial framework. Also the fuel tank is set deep into thechassis behind the seats for protection. Most Ram Cobra replicaswere fitted with a mildly tweaked Rover V8 engine; in some cases alarge American V8 unit was used giving similar performance to theoriginal Shelby Cobra. This RAM Cobra just been completed and comes to the sale withzero miles since the rebuild. Fitted with a 351cu in, 5.8 litreFord Cleveland V8 engine married to a C6 three-speed, quick-shiftgearbox giving approx 500bhp and completing the standard ¼ mile in11.8 seconds. Bentley Continental R

Item # 151

Since 1921, the Bentley name has remained synonymous withprestige, performance and luxury. The 'Continental' designationrecalls the Bentley Continental of the post-war period. The 'R'resonates to the R-Type Bentleys from the 1950s as well as theTurbo R of the 1980s. Bentley's 1980s resurgence relied exclusivelyon models whose basic architecture was shared with otherRolls-Royce models however, the Bentley Continental R was unique tothe Bentley marque.  Despite the need to incorporatenon-traditional features such as doors recessed into the roof, theresult looked every bit a Bentley, albeit one re-stated for the1990s. Needless to say, the performance  was outstanding, thecombination of the Turbo R engine in the new wind-cheating shapecutting the 0-60mph time to under six seconds and boosting topspeed to in excess of 150mph.This Georgian Silver Continental R was supplied originally byJack Barclay Ltd on 11th February 1993.Benefitting from a chrome radiator grille further enhancing theaesthetics of this already stunning vehicle, it is also fitted withthe traditional figured walnut to the door capping, centre consoleand dashboard.  Supplied with the original build sheet fromMulliner Park Ward at Crewe and with a V5 registration documenttogether with a history file, this is surely a future classic. These stylish two-door Bentleys are superb to drive and offereverything expected from a luxury marque plus a whole lotmore.

Bentley Motors Limited was founded on 18th January 1919 byWalter Owen Bentley known as W.O. Bentley or just 'W.O.' Bentleyhad been previously known for his range of rotary aero-engines inWorld War I, the most famous being the Bentley BR1 as used in laterversions of the Sopwith Camel. After the war W. O. The R-Type is the second series of post-warBentleys, replacing the Mk. VI. Essentially a larger-boot versionof the Mk. Lotus Elite Series II (Type 14)

Item # 157

The first Elite or Lotus Type 14 was an ultra-light two-seatercoupé, produced from 1958 to 1963 and making its debut at the 1957London Motor Car Show. It was chassis #1008 and, having spent ayear in development, aided by "carefully selected racingcustomers", it went on sale. The Elite's most distinctive featurewas its highly innovative fiberglass monocoque construction; theElite also used this glass-reinforced plastic material for theentire load-bearing structure of the car though the front of themonocoque incorporated a steel sub-frame supporting the engine andfront suspension. The resultant body was both lighter and stiffer and providedbetter driver protection in the event of a crash. It hadindependent suspension all round with transverse wishbones at thefront and Chapman struts at the rear whilst advanced aerodynamicsalso made a contribution giving the car a very low drag coefficientof 0.29 - quite low even for modern cars. When production ended in1963, just 1,030 of these had been built.Presented in Canary Yellow, this 1961 Series II Type 14 has justtwo former keepers and was built with the FEW Coventry Climaxengine. One of just approx 749 ever produced, this motor car was athoroughbred of its time. A numbers matching example offered withan MoT test certificate valid until May 2016 and V5 registrationdocument, this recently re-commissioned example after having beenoff the road since 2011 represents not only value for money but anopportunity to own a piece of sought after Lotus motorcar historyin fabulous condition.?

ISO Fidia

Item # 162

Manufacturers of the Isetta bubble car, Iso joined the ranks ofsupercar constructors in 1962 with the launch of the GiottoBizzarrini-designed Rivolta coupé at the Turin Motor Show. Thestyling was carried out at Carrozzeria Bertone and penned byGiorgetto Giugiaro. The Fidia, longer in the wheelbase byapproximately 150mm, was a more practical proposition than thetwo-door Rivolta on which it was based. Originally conceived as theS4 and introduced in 1967, the Fidia's four-door body was airy, graceful, purposeful and sleek, continuing Iso's leadership inadvancing automobile design. Chevrolet engines of 5.4 or 5.7 litreswere fitted initially. Towards the end of production, 35 Fidiaswere finally built with the 5.8-litre Ford V8 engine. Iso's provenunderpinnings included independent front suspension, deDion rearaxle and four wheel, power-assisted, disc brakes (inboard at therear). It is believed that in all 16 RHD Fidia's (the first beingsold to John Lennon in 1967) were produced, of which two were S4'sand seven were Ford powered; only a few righthand drive carsare thought to still exist. We are delighted to offer this 1973 example; one of the fewrighthand drive Fidias still in existence and fitted with the moreunusual Ford V8 power plant. The original build sheet confirms thatthe Fidia was built on 20th July 1973 and included theaddition of electronic ignition, automatic transmission, electricsunroof, power steering, a large sump pan, oil cooler, seat beltsand Michelin tyres. The car was subsequently imported into the UKby Wood and Krailing Limited, a Lancia dealership based at thattime in Theydon Boyle, Essex and was first registered on20th December 1973. Four previous owners are recordedwho include the importing dealership and Chris Lackner, the ISO& Bizzarrini Owners Club UK President who compiled achronological summary of the car's account contained within thehistory file.Presented in its original colour of dark blue with beige leatherinterior, this Iso Fidia is in excellent condition with a lowrecorded mileage of only approximately 51,500 miles upon its 200mphodometer. Excellent panel gaps provide a reassuring sign that theintegral strength of this Fidia remains strong; in fact, a look onthe undersides confirms that there is nothing untoward going on.The interior, we are informed, is original and also in very fineorder; in fact such is the quality that it exudes, that itcertainly entices both the driver and passengers into its luxuryleather sporting seats. The driver is kept well informed with anarray of instruments and directional control is provided via theItalian Nardi steering wheel. Entertainment for the driver andpassengers, apart from the wonderful music from the 5.8 litre V8,is supplied by a high quality McIntosh sound system.Mechanically, some modifications and upgrades have beenincorporated which ensure that this Iso Fidia remains the fine andreliable Grand Tourer you will have imagined; a fact confirmed bythe vendor who reassures us that the car has completed, and iscapable of, sustained comfortable high speed European Touringtrips. Alloy cylinder heads have been added and the gearboxupgraded to the later Ford 'Automatic Over Drive' (AOD) unit givingthe driver better reliability and usability over the earlieroriginal unit. To keep the chassis in shape and in control on theroad, the suspension has been overhauled with new bushes and avented disc brake conversion has been added; a recent road testconfirms the car's reassuring ability. The Iso is offered with acurrent UK V5 registration document and MoT test certificate validuntil February 2016.It is recommended that this Fidia is viewed in the flesh as ithas a certain charm that may not be appreciated in photographsalone and being a rare and exotic Italian coachbuilt Super Car, itoffers serious high speed and stylish touring for four. With a keenestimate, the Fidia represents fabulous value in view of today'srising market and surely an opportunity to acquire something ratherdifferent.Interested parties should note that the privateregistration pictured is to be retained by the vendor and an agerelated plate will accompany the car to the sale.

Bentley 4.5 litre Open Tourer by Vanden Plas

Item # 170

W. O. Bentley proudly debuted the new 3-litre car bearing hisname at the 1919 Olympia Motor Exhibition, the prototype enginehaving fired up for the first time just a few weeks earlier. Inonly mildly developed form, this was the model which was to becomea legend in motor racing history and which, with itsleather-strapped bonnet, classical radiator design and BritishRacing Green livery has become the archetypal vintage sportscar. The new 4½ litre model effectively employed the chassis, transmission and brakes of the 3 litre, combined with an enginethat was in essence two-thirds of the six-cylinder 6½ litre unit. Thus the new four-cylinder motor retained the six's 100x140mmbore/stroke and Bentley's familiar four-valves-per-cylinderfixedhead architecture but reverted to the front-end verticalcamshaft drive of the 3 litre. Bentley Motors lost no time inrace-proving its new car. It is believed that the first prototypeengine went into the 3 litre chassis of the 1927 Le Mans practicecar. The original 4½ litre car, nicknamed by the team 'Old MotherGun' and driven by Frank Clement and Leslie Callingham, promptlyset the fastest race lap of 73.41mph before being eliminated in theinfamous 'White House Crash' multiple pile-up. The 4½ litre was produced for four years, all but nine of the 665cars made being built on the 3 litre's 'Long Standard', 10'10"-wheelbase chassis. Purchasers of the 4½ litre model were, incommon with those of all vintage-period Bentleys, free to specifytheir preferences from a very considerable range of mechanical andelectrical equipment in addition to whatever body style andcoachbuilder may be required. This outstanding Bentley was first registered on 29thJune 1929 to Sq. Ldr. C.A. Ridley of Horley with the car changinghands to Capt. H.R. Campion just prior to the war. During the warthe Bentley was laid up in the Cumberland Hotel garage in Londonand fortunately survived unscathed with the car re-commissionedafter the war by Capt. Campion's son. Originally built with aMaythorne and Sons saloon body, it is thought to have beenre-bodied by Vanden Plas circa 1965. The engine and back axle wereoverhauled by Sid Cooper of Birmingham, a renowned Bentleyspecialist. The Bentley is in splendid order today having hadsignificant sums spent on her over a long period. The history fileis substantial and dates back to 1964, included are a number ofhand written notes showing expenditure and also details of someEuropean outings.A Bentley 4½ litre is a thing of beauty, to sit and drive one isa memorable experience. The current vendor has thoroughly enjoyedowning this outstanding example after searching long and hard tofind the car he wanted. It is easy to see why he chose to purchaseUU6 794, aesthetically everything is right about the car, mechanically she appears to be in very good order and conditionthroughout is excellent. She is fitted with a Le Mans fuel tank andradiator cap, electric fuel pumps, double Hartford shock absorbersfront and rear, correct P100 headlamps, fold flat windscreen withaero screens. The dashboard has the correct instrumentation withJaeger speedometer and rev counter with Smiths original gaugescompleting the impressive line-up.  This is a matching numbersexample and remains a car of elegance and style that is still morethan able to cruise at speed should you choose to do so.

Austin-Healey 3000 Mk. I BT7 Competition

Item # 172

There is little doubt that the Big Healey occupies a significantchapter in the annuls of historic rallying. Few cars can competewith the elegant lines and formidable three litre engine that tookso many of these to victory at stages all over the world. The BMCcompetitions department rallied the 3000 from its introduction butthe development of the works cars effectively ended in 1965 mainlybecause of the success of the Mini Cooper 'S'.Such luminaries as Pat Moss and Tommy Wisdom, Nancy Mitchell,John Gott and Peter Riley took these cars into the public eye wherethey remain just as competitive with modern day warriors such asDavid Grace Simon Kidstone. Chassis number H-BT-H/12122 was builtin March 1960 and dispatched to Imperial Motors in Bournemouth. Theequipment specified at the factory included a black hardtop, roadspeed tyres, a laminated windscreen, disc wheels all round, adjustable steering column and over drive. No heater wasrequested.Whilst the first owner is unknown, a paper-trail does existdetailing its history with the second owner from 1968. A change ofownership took place at that point to Brian Turner of West Londonwith another change in 1972 to John Seymour in Essex. He took the original registration number, OTK 76, off the carreplacing it with the current number, APU 122A although still racedwith OTK 76 right through to 1989. It is believed that the originalnumber was not sold but attributed to his tow-vehicle while heraced the Healey. In 1972/73, it was fully converted to its currentracing specification before selling to Roger Byford in the early1980's. It is thought that during John Seymour's ownership, the carwas taken back to Donald Healey in Warwickshire to be converted toa race car.To the trained eye, there are also another few details thatstand out; primarily, all the body panels are aluminium, includingall four wings and doors, normally the preserve of the works teamcars, including the dished rear lid, so shaped to take a sparewheel. Additionally the throttle assemblies and rocker cover arealso of the works type. The shock absorbers are Armstrong adjustable units to the rearand Armstrong up-rated to the front. The gearbox contains straightcut, close ratio gearing of the type used at Sebring, DonaldHealey's most successful circuit, mated to a 2912cc engine withoversize valves, a racing camshaft by Rees and a Tuftrided drilledcrankshaft fitted to a lightened and balanced flywheel. Thecompetition distributer keeps things in time and the triple DCOE'sensure the fuel is flowing correctly. The brakes are servo-assistedby Bob Green with a limited slip differential and new crown wheeland pinion with a 4.1:1 ratio. There appears to be much on this carthat speaks of more than the sum of its parts. In 1982, the car was sold to a German owner where it was racedon the continent until 1989 when the vehicle was parked up and forthe past 25 years it has been dry stored. Recently recommisioned,it now has excellent oil pressure and runs well. It has just beenthrough a UK MoT test; albeit with a borrowed set of wheels andtyres.Indeed, reading between the lines, it may be argued that thiscar has enjoyed a career in racing that is not fully documentedhere or understood. A little more research may open a few pleasantsurprises or form the basis of an easy rebirth to rallying.Furthermore, it is supplied with FiA papers dated July, 1988 aswell as a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate. The future of this Healey is still to be written and couldeasily be as interesting as its past.

The double overhead cam version was thefirst mass-manufactured DOHC unit to utilise reinforced rubbertiming belts, an innovation that would come into nearly universaluse in the decades after its introduction.Originally manufactured and sold in the US, this Fiat 124 wasimported into the UK in 2013 when the vendor promptly set aboutrestoring/improving the car. A full re-spray was conducted and anew hood provided. In addition to this, a new turbo has been fitted(costing £1,500) and the fuel tank has been replaced. The Fiat 124Turbo Convertibles are very rare- a mere 700 were manufactured andit is thought only 23 have survived. Supplied with a V5registration document and a valid MoT test certificate along with anumber invoices, this lefthand drive example is a perfectly useableclassic and one that will in time prove to be shrewdinvestment.

MG A Roadster

Item # 189

When the MGA arrived in 1955, it must have come as quite a shockto MG aficionados who had become used to the pre-war look of thecompany's sports cars. The MGA was a complete departure in stylingfor MG. Its beautiful streamlined body was right up to the minutein terms of appearance and it was powered by a new engine as MG haddecided that the old XPAG unit had had its day. The MGA was poweredby the much more modern B-Series engine that had made its debut inthe recently announced Magnette saloon. MG had gone as far asbuilding a full prototype of the MGA by using TD running gear, the1250cc XPAG engine, a re-designed chassis, and the MGA bodywork. When it eventually became clear that the TF Midget was a bit of alame duck and that it would have to be replaced, the new MG sportscar was finally given the chance it deserved. The delay inproduction had one advantage in that it allowed MG to refine thedesign and install the much newer 1,489cc four-cylinder B-Seriesengine and its transmission from the Magnette saloon. This handsome MGA was originally used overseas and returned tothe UK in 2010. The vendor is an avid classic car collector who, unfortunately, is running out of suitable space. This has beenrestored to a high standard and presents in very good condition, the white coachwork is virtually unmarked and the black leatherseats, trimmed in white, compliment the cars overall colour scheme.Supplied with a V5 registration document and some invoices, thisMGA is both MoT passed and Road Fund licence exempt. MGAs offerfantastic value for money in today's classic car market.

Jaguar XJS Convertible

Item # 207

The Jaguar XJS Convertible, which first appeared in 1988, wasconsiderably more than merely a coupé with the roof removed. The earlier 'T'-top cabriolet paved the way as the first openJaguar since the demise of the E-Type in 1975, but this was to bethe first full convertible and a strengthened sub-frame wasemployed in order to alleviate scuttle shake.  Retaining theroomy cockpit space of the coupé, the new convertible boasted allthe expected Jaguar refinements as standard of course, making for avery fine open grand touring car. The XJS's superlative 5.3 litreengine developed some 295bhp in later fuel injected form and whenallied to automatic transmission gave authoritative 150mphperformance. Today, this model is very much establishing itself asa most worthy latter day classic, good examples being eagerlysought by connoisseurs of the marque. This handsome convertible is finished in white with barleyleather trim. The rear storage area has been replaced and two welltrim seats offer the option of this car being an occasional 2+2.Originally registered on 1st August 1988, this is apre-airbag example that presents in excellent condition. A goodhistory file accompanies F125RYH and we are pleased to report shedrives in the usual silky smooth manner expected of such a car.Supplied with a V5 registration document, this XJS Convertibledefies its 27 years of age.

Daimler Sovereign (3.8 litre)

Item # 209

Based on the 1966 Jaguar 420, aderivation of the previous S-Type model, the Daimler Sovereign wasreadily identified by the traditional Daimler fluted radiatorsurround and the interior was furnished with finest quality leatherhide upholstery, polished figured walnut instrument panel and deeppile carpets that were sufficiently luxurious to satisfy Daimler'sestablished clientele. The 420 and Sovereign differed fromthe S-Type in having a revised four-headlight nose reminiscent ofthe Jaguar Mk. X and were powered by a 4.2 litre version of thestraight-six XK engine. There were thoughts of fitting theSovereign with the Daimler 4.5 litre V8 engine, as used in theMajestic Major but, as this was significantly more powerful thanthe Jaguar XK unit and would have led to the Sovereignoutperforming the Jaguar 420. Consequently company management didnot pursue the idea as the Jaguar marque was the one with thesporting image. The 1967 Daimler Sovereign offeredhere was built to special order and is of unique specification. Inplace of the standard 4.2 litre twin carburettor engine is a 3.8litre E-Type engine with its full complement of three carburettorswhich was quoted as producing 265bhp, 20bhp more than the standard4.2 litre unit. The gearbox is a four speed manual with overdrivewhich was normally only available as an option on the Jaguar 420and not the Daimler. Also unusual are the wire wheels withknock-off hub spinners and the battery is in the boot rather thanunder the bonnet, both features original to this car.  This Daimler has very recently beenrepatriated after spending many years abroad. We are informed thatthe first owner was Pink Floyd drummer, Nick Mason and that hebought the Sovereign as a present to himself after the band's firsthit. Documents supporting this are presently being sought by thevendor .The Daimler was then exported to Belgium then to Germanyand later to France, where the current vendor purchased it. It hasrecently been resprayed in its original colour of dark blue and theseats have been Connolised. Other recent work includes areplacement exhaust, a rebuild of the braking system and thecarburettors have been tuned. The vendor has informed us that a newset of door sealing rubbers will be fitted before the sale.A short drive showed that the cardrives well and the engine shows good oil pressure. The ride issmooth and the rebuilt brakes stop the car well. The Daimler has anMoT test certificate valid until April 2016 and comes with Frenchownership documents and some old MoT test certificates. A V5C hasbeen applied for and the car wears its original registration mark,JAG 163, which we are informed will be made non-transferable byDVLA as part of the application. This would, no doubt, respond to somefurther interior restoration which, in view of its unusual historyand unique specification, would prove well worth doing. It is aninteresting car and offered at a most attractive estimate.

1991 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL (Armoured)

Item # 211

The Mercedes-Benz W126 model was the successor to the earlier W116 line, and the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz flagship to officially bear the S-Class name meaning Sonderklasse or 'special class'. The W126 debuted a new Mercedes-Benz design style which was subsequently used on other vehicles in the company's lineup. The model range also introduced many Mercedes-Benz safety innovations, including the first airbag (supplemental restraint systems), seatbelt pre-tensioners, and traction control. Six years of development resulted in the W126 model being introduced at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in September 1979, with design work on the coupé beginning immediately after. Because the appearance differed from the rest of the Mercedes-Benz fleet at that time, some people did not appreciate the design at its launch. Compared to its predecessor, the new model had a sleeker, lower profile look, with more aerodynamic qualities than previous models. For the first time, a Mercedes-Benz saloon was not equipped with traditional chrome bumpers; polyurethane deformable bumpers were used, and visually aligned with body panels. This Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL is finished in dark metallic grey with beige interior and could only be described as unmarked. However, this 560 SEL is unlike no other as the passenger compartment is armoured and in addition the glass is bullet proof. The glass is in first class condition with no sign of any de-lamination at all. The category of protection is B6, it should however be noted the validation certificate has now expired. The car was chauffeur driven to transport a member of the Saudi Arabian royal family around, hence the low mileage and immaculate condition of this Mercedes-Benz. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a full Mercedes-Benz service history, this 560 SEL is a unique motor vehicle....more

Triumph TR4A

Item # 214

Produced between 1961 and 1967, the Triumph TR4 combined a new, modern and aggressive body design by famed Italian stylist, Giovanni Michelotti, with the basic chassis of the previous TR3A. The TR4 also improved passenger comfort with wind-up windows, face-level ventilation and an optional hardtop. The 2,138cc engine of the late-production TR3A continued while the 1,991cc engine was also made available to buyers who wanted to participate in two-litre racing. When equipped with the optional overdrive, the TR4 was good for a top speed of almost 110mph. Some 28,465 TR4A roadsters were produced between 1965 and August 1967. Today, the four-cylinder TRs are among the easiest of post-war classic sports cars to own and maintain, being supported by a multitude of component suppliers and other specialists. This TR4A was imported from North Carolina in the United States and presents extremely well with both the resplendent green paintwork and brightwork in very good order. The black leather upholstery is equally good due to an earlier restoration and indeed, a look underneath the car is enough to inspire confidence in the quality of this example and the previous workmanship. Currently awaiting the V5 registration document from the DVLA which is expected prior to the auction, the vendor explains that this is a lovely drive and is sure that it is a future classic.? Please note that this TR4A does NOT have an Independent Rear Suspension.

Rover SD1 Vanden Plas (Series I)

Item # 216

David Bache was to head the design team for the SD1 and foundhimself inspired by exotic machinery such as the Ferrari Daytonaand the late 1960s design study by Pininfarina for the BMC 1800which also guided the design of the Citroën CX. Spen King wasresponsible for the engineering. The two had previouslycollaborated on the Range Rover. The project was first code-namedRT1 (for Rover Triumph Number 1) but then soon changed to SD1 (forSpecialist Division Number 1) as Rover and Triumph were put in thenew 'Specialist Division' of British Leyland. Early in 1982, Roverunveiled the Cowley-built, face-lifted line to the public. Thesecars benefited mostly from small cosmetic changes on the exterioras well as a quite extensively redesigned interior. Car spotterscan distinguish the two series by the headlights, which werechrome-rimmed and flush fitting on the later, recessed on theearlier series, the deeper rear window now fitted with a rear washwipe.Originally purchased new by the first owner and ordering the topof the range 'Vanden Plas' edition, it had few other optionsavailable. His wife however, favoured crushed velvet over leatherand so is probably the only one like this. Shortly afteracquisition, about 11 months, the Series II was released and so theowner immediately mothballed this car and bought another. It isonly very recently that this SD1 has re-emerged providing the newowner with, in effect, a one year old Rover SD1. Shown today inabsolute time-warp condition, this extraordinary example, inPharaoh Gold, is still as fast, stylish, comfortable and modern asit was back in the late 80's. Such a rarity indeed that it wasreviewed last year in Car & Classic by the features writer,Jack Grover to critical acclaim.
