14" Bisque "Uncle Sam" Character Doll by C.O.D.

Lot # 5 (Sale Order: 4 of 599)      

A German bisque socket head doll incised "S 3" and manufactured by Cuno & Otto Dressel. Exceptional molding to the bisque facial features, glass eyes, on a jointed composition body. This example is the turn of the 20th century characterization/interpretation of "Uncle Sam". Obviously this doll was made for the American market as was often the case with many toys and dolls that were made in other countries. Typical patriotic garb with striped red and white trousers, vest, and shirt with applied stars as well as the all to classic stove pipe hat. Not only does this doll appeal to doll collectors but all those that appreciate the patriotic nature of this piece! Overall bisque head is free of damage. Very good plus condition with some typical fading to colorful outfit. One composition leg needs to be reattached or restrung. Condition (Very Good). Size 14".

19" K & R 101 Character Child.

Lot # 8 (Sale Order: 7 of 599)      

A classic German bisque character child incised K * R 101, 49 by Kammer & Reinhardt, circa early 1900's. She has blue intaglio eyes, affixed on a fully jointed composition body with original finish, and dressed in antique clothing with a tosca colored mohair wig. Overall a fine example with great molding, however, as typical of these dolls, she does have a moderate amount of wig pulls, mostly on the rear of head. Condition is as stated above with no hairlines or cheek rubs. Condition (Good). Size 19".

21" Bru Jne 7.

Lot # 20 (Sale Order: 19 of 599)      

An exceptional early Bru Jne with pale bisque, blue paperweight eyes, and on the typical all leather Bru body. This bebe has jointed bisque arms at the elbow, the much desirable tongue, and is only marked on rear of head with the raised number 7. Bisque shoulder plate is incised number 6. Dressed in a period, perhaps original, dress of a deep maroon velvet with marked Bru Jne #11 shoes. Great bisque with a hint of color lost to tip of nose but an exceptional doll.
Correction: All kid body in good condition. The arms are a bit loose at the shoulder plates.

Rare Leo Moss Black Character Doll.

Lot # 26 (Sale Order: 25 of 599)      

Leo Moss was an untrained black American folk doll artist from Macon, Ga., who worked in the early 1900s. It is speculated that he made fewer than 100 dolls. All were individually sculpted from papier-mâché, supposedly using wallpaper scraps. This doll has a flange head incised L.M. with curly molded black hair, inset glass eyes, chubby cheeks, dimples, broad nose and a closed mouth; black cloth body with composition arms and legs; vintage cotton dress with lace and ruffle trim, missing one shoe and sock. Quite a sought-after doll! Condition (Very Good). Size 16".
