Fine Boss & Co. Assisted Opening Sidelock Double Ejectorgun

Lot # 79 (Sale Order: 79 of 821)

serial #7661, 12 ga., 29" barrels are choked improved cylinder and modified showing bright excellent bores. This shotgun was completed on March 27, 1929 for Mr. G.D.B. Bonbright of Rochester, New York and Pimlico Plantation, South Carolina. The barrels show the proper Dover Street address and is additionally engraved "MADE IN ENGLAND". The barrels are properly London nitro proofed with 2 1/2" chambers for 1 1/8 oz. load. The chambers have subsequently been opened to 2 3/4". The action is engraved in rose and scroll with each lock being engraved "BOSS & CO.". The barrels retain about 95% evenly thinning blue which appears to be original with engraving remaining sharp around the breeches and with flats and lugs showing proper polish. The action and locks retain about 95% original color case-hardened finish which has softened just slightly and has a wonderful appearance. The triggerguard retains about 70% thinning original blue finish and has a rolled edge for a right handed shooter. The checkered straight grip stock and splinter forearm are of beautifully figured English walnut and rate excellent with lots of original hand rubbed oil finish remaining and with crisp edges, fine strong checkering and lovely dropper points. The exterior forend metal is fully engraved in tight scroll and there is a crack beginning at the rear of each lock, they are minor and should be an easy repair. The action is equipped with cocking indicators and the safety has a taller than normal checkered knob. The gun has a 14 1/2" length of pull over its solid red rubber pad and a 3/8" black spacer. A copy of the original ledger page is included with the shotgun, it shows the gun being made as a single gun with 2 triggers for Mr. Bonbright listing his addresses in South Carolina and Rochester, NY, 12 gauge, 29" barrels, 2 5/8 chamber, large knob on safety, 2 3/4 bend, 13 3/4 length, 3/8" cast off, engraved G.D.B.B., to be ready in London 1st August. The gold escutcheon in the toeline of stock now bears the intials "S.E.P.". Mr. Bonbright was a successful stock broker in Rochester being a member of the New York and Chicago stock exchanges. He purchased Pimlico Plantation in 1925 and was an avid sportsman. He is probably most well known for developing the Bonbright Streamer which was an adaptation of a Maine Landlock salmon fly that he modified and used with great success fishing Tarpon. The shotgun is very honest and in a very fine state of condition with robust ejectors. The barrels show a wall thickness which is over .025" for almost all areas with one area in the right tube toward the muzzle before the choke where it gets to .022". The gun comes in a leather luggage style Abercrombie & Fitch case. A fine double gun by one of the world's most respected makers. (18111-3) {C&R}

Fine Belgian Double Flintlock Fowler

Lot # 83 (Sale Order: 83 of 821)

About 24 gauge (.585"), 35 1/4" barrels with very good bores showing a bit of oxidation. This fowler shows Belgian proofs on the underside of the barrels and have sunken touchmarks on the top breech of each barrel, these are most likely the marks of the maker. The locks feature waterproof pans, roller frizzens and gooseneck cocks with neat serpentine reinforcements. The locks show light relief scroll engraving while the breeches show nice foliate work. The buttstock is completely bound in an engraved iron band which extends over the nose of the comb to the butt and from the butt, along the toeline to the triggerguard. The buttplate is of iron as is the wide bow triggerguard and fancy iron tailpipe all of which are engraved in large bold scroll. The stock is also carved in floral and geometric patterns and shows silver inlaid bird on either side of butt along with German silver wedge escutcheons. The bottom of the forend shows two .40" round gold inlays engraved with the man in the moon. The barrels show a textured twist pattern beginning 2 1/2" from the breech and continuing to the muzzle. The breech section shows some light foliate work before the twist pattern begins. The barrels and locks bear a pleasing mellow gray patina and remain generally free of pitting. The iron furniture also bears a pleasing gray patina with just a little scattered light surface oxidation. The stock rates excellent with lots of original finish and showing lovely carving which remains sharp and clear and stylish swooping symmetrical cheek rests on either side of butt. There is only a single iron ramrod thimble just ahead of the forend on underside of barrel, there should be another but looking at the bottom rib one cannot see where it originally was located. This is a very nice quality fowler, the locks are crisp and show excellent workmanship both internally and externally. A fine European double flintlock fowler. (18190-4) {ANTIQUE}

DWM Model 1900 American Eagle Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol in the U.S. Trials Range

Lot # 86 (Sale Order: 86 of 821)

serial #6512, 30 Luger, 4 3/4" barrel with a good to perhaps near very good bore which shows strong rifling but frosting within the grooves and light pitting its full length. The metal surfaces on this interesting semi-automatic pistol retain about 80-85% original blue, the straps faded to gray, with wear on the high edges and contact points. The straw parts have been dressed and re-straw-colored, the safety lever appears untouched and is likely original. The toggle is DWM-marked, the American Eagle crest is over the chamber and the frame is not marked "Germany" anywhere. The un-grooved firing pin is un-numbered and the few numbered parts are all appropriately numbered to the gun, one notable exception is the takedown lever which is completely un-numbered. Normally these are numbered on their underside, with the exception of the American trials pistols, which are numbered on the right side of the latch which protrudes through the frame. Sadly when this takedown latch was polished and re-strawed, its right side was dressed down quite a bit, so much in fact that it no longer protrudes from the right side of the frame, it being slightly under the level of the frame metal, suggesting very highly that the number which was once there, was removed during the polishing process, which would have proven this to be a U.S. test pistol. The checkered walnut grips rate about very good showing a good deal of wear and flattening of the points, they are each numbered "87" on their interior but fit the gun very well. A single bright-bodied wood base magazine is included which is numbered in DC electric pencil along its back spine "7849", the magazine rating about excellent. Overall a very nice example of a 1900 American Eagle Luger pistol, in the correct serial number range for the U.S. trials, sadly now with no definitive way to prove the arm was a trials pistol. DWM Model 1900 American Eagle Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

Lot # 87 (Sale Order: 87 of 821)

serial #15073, 30 Luger, 4 3/4" barrel with a near very good bore which shows strong evident rifling but with light frosting and pitting its full length. The metal surfaces retain about 90 to perhaps near 92% original blue, the loss is due to even fading and some flaking and toning to brown, both front and back straps now a plum patina; the sideplate an overall plum brown. The takedown lever, trigger and magazine release show a restored straw while the safety appears untouched as does the extractor. The toggle is DWM-marked with the American Eagle crest being over the chamber, the front of the frame export-stamped "Germany", the few numbered parts are matching, the un-grooved firing pin un-numbered. The checkered walnut grips rate about very good showing minor wear and flattening of the points, near overall, they are stamp-numbered to the gun on their interior. Included is a single bright-bodied wood-based magazine which is un-numbered and rates very good showing some wear to the original plate and over all evidence of extremely light oxidation staining. Overall a very respectable 1900 American Eagle Luger that won't break the bank. (38050-712) {C&R}

German P.08 S/42 G-Date Luger Pistol by Mauser

Lot # 91 (Sale Order: 91 of 821)

serial #3352f, 9mm, 4" barrel with a bright about excellent bore showing strong rifling and only minor frosting along its length. The metal surfaces retain about 92-95% original blue, the loss due to fading to brown on the straps and high edge and contact point wear. The straw parts still show a strong straw temper with minor oxidation staining on the right side of the magazine release and the ejector. The toggle is marked with the "S/42" assembly code, the chamber is G-dated and all of the visible numbered parts are matching with the exception of the un-grooved firing pin which is not numbered. It is noted however that although the numbers on the toggle train match the serial number of this gun the font of the "S/42" assembly code is more likely that of the "g" suffix from later in the production run. The checkered walnut grips rate excellent with only minor flattening of the points and they are stamp-numbered to the gun on their interior. Included is a single blue-bodied aluminum-based magazine numbered "6852" and the numbers "42" and rates very good with about 50% blue remaining. Overall a nice example of a secret G-dated Luger. The checkered walnut grips rate about very good with minor flattening of the points, there is a chip missing from the top of the left grip below the safety lever and they are numbered "45" on their interior. Included is a single bright-bodied wood-based magazine that is un-numbered and rates excellent. The frontstrap has been very neatly stamped with a Bavarian Regimental Marking "B.12.R.4.1." Overall a nice example of a very early P.08 with Bavarian Regimental Markings. (218060-69) {C&R}

Winchester Model 1873 Rimfire Rifle

Lot # 93 (Sale Order: 93 of 821)

serial #218304, 22 Long, 24" round barrel with full magazine and a fair bore. This is a very nice 1873 rifle. The barrel and magazine retain about 75% evenly thinning original blue finish which is blending with a pleasing smooth brown patina. The action retains about 80% original blue finish with loss mainly on the right side ahead of sideplate where there is flaking and the exposed metal shows a smooth gray brown patina. The hammer and lever retain strong original color case-hardened finish. The plain walnut stock and forend rate about excellent with a good deal of original finish, very few handling marks and a nice honest surface showing raised grain. The rifle is nicely sighted with a gold washed Beach combination front, standard sporting rear and early Winchester folding tang mounted 1873 peepsight. Just a very clean and completely honest rifle overall. A excellent example of the 1873 rimfire rifle suitable for a fine collection of Winchester rifles. Lot # 94 (Sale Order: 94 of 821)

serial #354370, 32 WCF, 30" octagon barrel with full magazine and a good plus bore that shows good rifling and light pitting most of its length. This rifle features an unusual six-inches-longer-than-standard barrel. The barrel and magazine retain a pleasing even brown patina with traces of original blue in protected areas. The action is much the same with traces of finish blending with a smooth even gray brown patina. The plain walnut buttstock and forend rate very good with lots of original finish remaining and with normal light handling marks. The right side of the forend has a rectangular stamp with hand stamped initials within "V.R. & CO stamped in individual letters. The rifle is sighted with standard open sporting sigths. Overall a good honest example of a special order 30" rifle. (18087-68) {ANTIQUE} [Kenneth Fry Collection]

U.S. Model 1911 Navy Contract Pistol by Colt

Lot # 95 (Sale Order: 95 of 821)

serial #10574, 45 ACP, 5" barrel with a bright very good plus to near excellent bore which shows the very beginning of some light frosting within the grooves and some light oxidation in the area of the chamber, it is unmarked but for an inspector's number "3" ahead of the lugs. The metal surfaces retain about 95 to near 97% original blue, the loss is due to some light fading on the frontstrap, some high edge and contact point wear, and near over all, very sparsely scattered light handling marks and scratches along with a few spots of some very light surface oxidation. A couple of the oxidized spots have resulted in some very light pitting, primarily a small spot on the left radius of the slide near the front sight and another small area halfway down the left slide flat. The diamond checkered walnut grips rate very good showing some mild compression of some of the points and some wear along their lower beveled edges. A few of the screws show some slot damage, including the magazine catch screw; the rear edge of the ejection port atop the slide, and the corresponding area of the hood on the barrel which mates to it, show some tool markings, as though something were tapped between the barrel and slide, perhaps in an effort to free a jam; it is unobtrusive and missed at first glance and certainly could be dressed if one wished. Included is a nice two-tone unmarked Colt magazine. This pistol was part of a 1000 gun shipment in November 1912 to the U.S. Navy, General Storekeeper at the U.S. Navy Yard in Brooklyn. Overall a very respectable example of a U.S. Navy contract 1911 still very attractive and in a very fine state of condition. (38100-73) {C&R} [Walter "Walt" Rauch Collection]

Rare U.S. Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol by Remington Umc

Lot # 96 (Sale Order: 96 of 821)

un-serialized 45 ACP, 5" barrel with a bright about excellent bore showing some extremely light frosting nearer the throat, stamped only with a capital letter "P" atop the barrel in the area of the hood. The metal surfaces on this very rare un-serialized example retain about 90-92% original blue finish, flaking on the frontstrap, a bit atop the slide, and with sparsely scattered light handling marks, tiny scratches and fading here and there. The left side of the frame shows the appropriate Remington UMC "United States Property" marking and the root of the triggerguard has an "(eaglehead)/I38" inspector stamping, however there is no final acceptance mark from Edmund E Chapman on the left of frame, nor any evidence of any serial number application, these of course being applied after bluing on these arms, this likely signifying a rejected arm (the frame thickness was precisely measured and compared with 12 other subject pistols, indicating no serial number was ever applied). The checkered walnut grips rate very good showing only light compression of the points on the left side and a bit of wear on the right side. Included is an unmarked two-tone magazine which rates very good showing some light oxidation on its left side. Occasionally other examples of the Remington UMC pistol without serial number will pop up, making this a very interesting and rare variation for the 1911 collector, this pistol in very fine plus condition overall. U.S. Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol by Colt

Lot # 97 (Sale Order: 97 of 821)

serial #311509, 45 ACP, 5" Colt barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this exceptional pistol retain about 99% original dark hot immersion blue "Army black" over a hasty wartime polish, showing the very slightest wear on the leading edges of the slide and a bit of rub wear on the right side near the muzzle. The diamond checkered walnut grips rate excellent retaining nearly all their original varnish. The pistol exhibits a crisp left-side "(eaglehead)/S14" inspectors marking and included is a very nice two-tone Colt magazine. This pistol was part of a May 1918, 4200 gun shipment to the Commanding Officer, Springfield Armory and is one of the earliest arms to have the "Army black" finishes. Really a superb example overall which appears to have seen little or no use. (38100-80) {C&R} [Walter "Walt" Rauch Collection]

Lot # 98 (Sale Order: 98 of 821)

serial #919456, 45 ACP, 5" Flannery barrel with an excellent bore. This pistol is an arsenal rework but is unmarked. It has a Union Switch & Signal Co. slide and has arsenal type Parkerized finish. The metal surfaces retain about 99% Parkerized finish with a few minor handling marks but old pitting is visible under the new finish. The pistol is equipped with correct excellent condition checkered synthetic Keyes Fiber Company grips that feature internal ribs and reinforcing rings around the screw holes. All other parts appear correct for this pistol and markings on the frame and slide are strong to crisp. The ordnance escutcheon is struck off center but is visible and the frame is correctly marked with Colonel Frank J. Atwood's initials. The pistol includes a single Risdon Mfg. Co. marked magazine that has been Parkerized. Overall, a nice condition pistol for the collector or shooter. (88100-74) {C&R} [Walter "Walt" Rauch Collection]

Rare L.D. Nimschke Engraved and Signed Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 99 (Sale Order: 99 of 821)

serial #28980, 44 RF, 24" octagon barrel with a good bore that shows strong rifling throughout with some scattered light oxidation and fine pitting. This rifle features full coverage relief scroll engraving on the action, buttplate and nosecap. The right side shows open panels at center of sideplate and front flat of action. The left side shows the same relief open scroll with a wolf's head in panel on sideplate and an open panel on the front section of action. The bottom of the cartridge lifter is engraved with a relief flower blossom surrounded in fine punch dot shading. The bottom of the frame is signed "L.D.N." within geometric border. There is a virtually identical rifle illustrated in L.D. Nimschke Firearms Engraver at the bottom of page 54, it is number 26047, less than 3000 numbers away from this rifle. Winchester produced 10,000 guns the year these two rifles were made making them probably less than 4 months apart, possibly closer considering the fact that they did not complete the guns in consecutive order. The barrel and magazine retain a pleasing even brown patina which remains quite smooth with barrel address remaining clear and legible. The action retains about 30% of its original gold wash with the balance bearing a wonderful untouched patina with well-defined edges and tight sideplates. The buttstock is of nicely figured American black walnut which shows an old quality repair to a break from rear of top tang to the rear of the lower tang. The stocks otherwise rate excellent as very lightly refinished. The rifle is equipped with sling swivels that appear to be factory mounted in bottom of nosecap and in toeline of stock on perfectly inlaid base affixed by two screws. The rifle is sighted with a standard sporting front and Henry style folding ladder rear sights. Overall a very nice Winchester 1866 rifle engraved and signed by one of the 19th century's most respected American free-lance engravers. (18087-4) {ANTIQUE} [Kenneth Fry Collection]

U.S. Model 1911A1 Semi-Auto Pistol by Colt

Lot # 100 (Sale Order: 100 of 821)

serial #705753, 45 ACP, 5" Colt barrel with an excellent bore. This 1924 made pistol retains strong condition with about 85% factory blue. The grip frame is thinning to pewter along with high edge wear, slide toning to brown, pitting, a few oxidation blemishes and light handling wear. The earlier 1911 double diamond checkered walnut grips rate about good to very good with light to moderate diamond point wear and handling marks. The grips may have been changed out at a later date but due to the transitional nature of the early 1911A1's made in 1924 it could have been stock on hand that was used. The slide is marked with a Rampant Colt between the patent dates and slide address and the right side of the slide is marked "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY". All parts are correct for this gun and Captain Walther T. Gorton's double circle inspectors mark on the frame remains crisp. The pistol includes a single American Pin Co. two-tone magazine with pinned base. This will make a fine addition to any Government Model collection. (88100-70) {C&R} [Walter "Walt" Rauch Collection]
