Antonio Zoli Combination Gun
Lot # 1154 (Sale Order: 155 of 901)
serial #31156, 12 ga. x 7x57R, 24" barrels with bright excellent bores, the shotgun barrel choked full. The barrels retain about 95% original blue, the loss is due primarily to light even fading, some muzzle wear and the expected light handling marks or small scratches that come from use. The rear scope mount welds have completely separated. The coin-finished frame rates excellent and remains brilliant, toning a bit to pewter on the bottom of the frame. The frame and sideplates feature overall floral and open flowing scroll decoration with background punch-dot accenting and geometric bordering. The checkered walnut capped pistolgrip buttstock and forend rate very good to near excellent with minor handling marks and flakes in the possibly later applied varnish. The buttstock wears a ventilated red rubber recoil pad which provides a 13 3/4" length of pull. The gun is sighted with a simple blade front, nicely matted flip-up square notch rear and has been retailer-fitted with an Artemis 2100 7x50 scope fitted with a Meopta etched reticle featuring an illuminated center dot in the middle of their standard #4 reticle, which currently does not function and needs batteries. It features a heavy three-post German reticle and bright excellent optics. This combo gun features double triggers, the front a single-set, non-automatic safety and extractors. (218413-7) {MODERN}

Early U.S. Model 1873 Trapdoor Carbine by Springfield Armory
Lot # 1172 (Sale Order: 173 of 901)
serial #18495, 45-70 Govt, 22" barrel with a bright very good plus bore showing strong evident rifling with scattered frosting and fine pitting. Falling just outside the first run of Custer Trapdoor carbines (17400-18400) the barrel has an overall smooth brown patina with perhaps a tiny impact mark or two acquired through the years, the band somewhat similar with light traces of gray. The frame, breechblock and tang are a much darker gray-brown with some very fine oxidation, while the lockplate and hammer are a pale smoky gray with areas of brown along the edges, the markings still visible. The triggerguard and buttplate are a rich dark brown with patches of moderate oxidation on the buttplate and the sling bar is a mottled gray brown with the ring pale gray overall. The stock rates good to about very good showing what is likely an old light cleaning still retaining a good amount of dents and marks, three thin cracks at the sling bar, a longer hairline crack along the left wrist and an old glue repaired angular crack in the right side of the stock between the frame and front of the lockplate. The wood is a bit shy at the toe and the cartouche and firing proof are no longer visible, however a large "305" is stamped in the left side of the stock under the rear sight. The carbine is equipped with a two position tumbler, iron firing pin and coarsely checkered hammer. The mechanism is crisp and mechanically functional. Accompanying the carbine is a collection of research, family letters and photos stating this carbine was given to a young Wylie Smith as his family traveled west by wagon train shortly after the war, where his older brothers served on opposites sides. The story told by Wylie's son Ernie was that the carbine was given to his father who was in his teens at the time by the wagon master for shooting a crow at 100 yards. It is not known if the photos are of the Smith family only they have been with the family for some time. Ernie Smith died in 1994 and the carbine was in his possession since the passing of his father in 1935 and the carbine was given to the consignor by his widow. A neat looking carbine with frontier history who's further research could prove interesting. (58527-7) {ANTIQUE}
