1983 Ferrari 308 GTS QV

Lot # 327 (Sale Order: 28 of 35)

  • A UK-supplied Quattrovalvole. One of only 233 in right-hand drive

  • The 4-valves per cylinder QV pushed output back up to 240bhp restoring the status quo

  • Really well presented in the classic combination of Rosso and Nero

  • Only 56,200 miles with £24,000 of recent service work including cambelts

  • Timeless lines, rewarding handling, removable roof and a raspy V8 - perfect

October 1975, saw the debut at the Paris Motor Show of the most successful shape ever to wear the Cavallino Rampante emblem, the Ferrari 308 and during its comparatively, long production run from 1975-89, over 20,000 examples of all engine types and sizes were produced. This new car was constructed on a traditional steel tube chassis, but its beautiful bodywork was initially manufactured in GRP and then, after two years, Scaglietti started making GTBs in steel. The 3-litre, four-cam V8 was more or less unchanged until March 1981 when Bosch fuel injection was added in place of the 4 double-choke Webers, reducing the engine's power output significantly, although the final drive was altered on these cars to give similar acceleration to a carburettor car. Two years later, the 4-valve per cylinder Quattrovalvole or 'QV' model pushed output back up to 240 bhp restoring the status quo. European spec cars boasted higher horsepower than cars built for the American market and were lighter. Only 748 308 GTB/S QV models were produced and they are considered by many to be the most desirable of all the 308 variations as they are the fastest and most subtly styled with a deep front valance, racing mirrors and short lightweight bumpers.

Offered here is a lovely UK- supplied, 1983 right-hand drive Ferrari 308GTS QV in the classic colour combination of Rosso Corsa with a Nero interior. The history file is comprehensive and contains details of recent attention (November 2018) including a cambelt service. At the same time, the clutch was replaced along with the headlamp motors, front spotlights, steering rack, the front discs and all the suspension bushes. Work to the rear end included all suspension bushes, springs, dampers, discs and pads. The exhaust has been renewed together with much of the fuel delivery system and both front and rear anti-roll bars have been replaced. The period-correct Michelin R390 tyres are new. The work completed should, hopefully, ensure that this six-owner, 56,000 mile, ‘QV’ delivers a great driving experience for its new owner.

One of only 233 right-hand drive examples produced, the 308 GTS QV with its timeless looks, rewarding handling, removable roof panel, and that raspy V8 just behind you, offers the perfect way into classic Ferrari ownership.

One of only 233 in right-hand drive

1996 Ferrari 355 Berlinetta Manual

Lot # 328 (Sale Order: 29 of 35)

  • A UK-supplied, right-hand drive, manual gearbox, Berlinetta in gleaming Nero

  • Superb black/grey interior with the sought after carbon bucket seat option

  • Correctly stored for a few years and consequently only 16,480 miles

  • Full mechanical overhaul from front to back in 2019 at a cost of £11,000

  • With its full book pack, tools, V5c and an MOT valid until December 2019

  • Surely the ultimate 355, an immaculate, manual box Berlinetta with carbon seats

Inheriting the proportions of its predecessor, the F355 was outwardly a much better-resolved proposition, both aesthetically and aerodynamically. However, beneath the fabulous styling and smoother skin, were further major advancements, including power steering, variable damping, and a 100cc engine enlargement. The longitudinally mounted 3496cc V8 generated a market-leading 380 horsepower at a spine-tingling 8,250 rpm and the gearbox now had six speeds with a revised synchromesh making gear changes so much smoother. New electronically adjustable shock absorbers varied their stiffness within milliseconds to suit the road surface and the result of all these developments was evident around Ferrari's 1.86 mile Fiorano test track when the 355 was two seconds a lap faster than the 12-cylinder 512 TR.

Sitting on the cusp between analogue and digital, the 355 is considered the forerunner of all modern Ferraris and, as the last of the hand-built cars before the 360 and later descendants moved to mass production, will inevitably slip into the role of 'Classic Ferrari' with ease becoming increasingly sought after as time goes by.

On offer here is a truly stunning 355 in striking black with a black/grey interior and the sought after Carbon Bucket seat option. It spent a period of time, correctly stored off the road probably explaining the modest mileage of just 16,480 at the time of consignment. In 2018 it was released from storage and subjected to a complete mechanical overhaul from front to back at a cost just shy of £11,000 carried out by Ferrari specialists, AML Performance Ltd. in Macclesfield.

This included; Cambelt, pulleys and tensioner, Clutch and clutch bearings, Front and rear brakes, Period-correct front and rear tyres, Water pump and Ancillary belts and hoses.

Prior to the extensive recommissioning service, it had obviously been well looked after as is evident from the comprehensive service record including many belt changes by Ferrari main dealers, Maranello in Egham and Lancaster in Colchester. The car’s most recent service was in May 2019 by Stratstone Ferrari in Wilmslow at a cost of £2,000 detailed on a copy invoice in the owner’s file. In total, around £18,000 has been spent in the last nine months to return this wonderful little Ferrari to the condition in which you see it today.

Every iteration of the F355 is desirable, however, if you really enjoy extending your Ferrari, the Berlinetta with a manual gearbox and carbon buckets is undoubtedly the way to go. This is a really lovely example offered with its full book pack, tools, V5c, and an MOT until December 2019 and appears very sensibly guided.

Multi-talented little Berlinetta that's already assured of 'Classic' status

1977 Ferrari 512 BB

Lot # 329 (Sale Order: 30 of 35)

  • One of just 101 right-hand drive examples of the 5-litre Berlinetta Boxer

  • Supplied new to Adplas of London by Cooper Car Sales of Leicestershire

  • Classically finished in Rosso over Nero with Nero hide upholstery

  • In current private ownership since 2012 and only 33,500 miles

  • Accompanied by its original order form, sales brochure, book pack and service book

Having reasserted itself at the top of the 'supercar' hierarchy with the first 'Boxer' - the 365GT/4 BB, Ferrari went one better with its successor, the 512BB introduced in October 1976 at the Paris Auto Show. For the new car, Ferrari abandoned its long-standing practice of denoting a model by the capacity of an individual cylinder and adopted the Dino-type nomenclature where '512' indicates 5-litres and 12 cylinders. The increase in engine size from the original Boxer's 4.4-litres was made, not so much with increased power in mind, but more to enable the 512BB to meet increasingly stringent emissions targets without loss of performance. Displacement was increased by enlarging both bore and stroke, while in addition the compression ratio was raised and lubrication changed from wet to dry sump. Quoted power remained the same (but may have been more truthful) at 360bhp, and torque was improved to 332lb ft at 5000rpm which, coupled with revised gear ratios, made the 512 more tractable. Styling changes were subtle, with a small chin spoiler added to the nose, NACA ducts added in front of the rear wheels, slightly bigger rear arches to accommodate larger rear wheels, and finally, four rear tail lights replaced the six on the 365.

This Ferrari 512 BB was supplied to Adplas Ltd of London by Cooper Car Sales of Leicestershire, in 1977 finished in Rosso over Nero, with Nero upholstery, a classic colour combination for these cars. It’s set off by an unmarked set of traditional Cromodoras with three-eared spinners wearing lightly used Pirelli P4000s. The car sits well, looks fabulous and sounds equally as good. Ferrari only built 101 in right-hand drive and more than half of this number are with us no more which makes this a very rare car.

The car has remained in the UK its entire life, all detailed in the history file, and has covered just 33,500 warranted miles. Our vendor purchased the car in 2012 from William Loughran Ltd. who were offering it on behalf of a London based gentleman named Mr Chadwick who had purchased the car in Buckinghamshire privately from Mr Skipworth. Pleasingly, the list of keepers, all in the UK, is traceable right back to Adplas Ltd of London in 1977 when the Ferrari was brand new. Accompanying the car is the original order form, sales brochure, book pack and service book, tool kit, jack and bag, and a large collection of invoices. Definitely one for the collector.

The 512 Berlinetta Boxer was an all-round sports and GT car, combining blistering performance with a plush leather interior, electric windows, and air conditioning. Not only does it remain one of the most striking designs to carry the Prancing Horse, but it also sits well as a very usable classic Ferrari and with those 12 gleaming, golf ball size, carb throats dominating the engine bay, represents the last of a rare breed, the carburetted flat-12 Ferrari.

2006 Ferrari F430 Coupe F1

Lot # 330 (Sale Order: 31 of 35)

  • Full main dealer service history, latest by Graypaul Nottingham September 2018 at 24,778

  • Just three former keepers and warranted mileage of 25,102

  • Rosso Scuderia with contrasting Nero Hide

  • Race seats, Nero carpets, carbon driving zone, yellow dials, Nero brake calipers, Scuderia shields

Manufactured from 2004 until 2009, the Ferrari F430 was the successor to the very successful 360M and, according to its creators, was at least 70% new compared with the previous model, itself a ground-breaker. Its aluminium structure was more rigid than the 360’s, it had a new engine, a new F1 gearbox, a new differential, and a brand-new chassis, and although the styling is obviously reminiscent of the 360M's, in reality, it's pretty much a ground-up design. Largely the work of Pininfarina, although overseen by Ferrari's design chief Frank Stephenson, the F430 still looks fresh today, more crisp-edged than the 360, with a strong hint of Enzo around the surface-erupting tail-lights.

Its all-new 4.3-litre V8 engine, with four valves per cylinder instead of the 360’s five, and chain camshaft drive instead of belts, with a consequent great reduction in service costs, has a variable-valve-timing system lifted straight from the Enzo's V12, dry-sump lubrication, a very high compression ratio (11.3:1), a variable airflow plenum chamber, and an enormous electronic brain making the decisions in the form of not one, but two, Bosch Motronic ME7 ECUs.  At 483bhp it boasts 21% more power than the 360, exceeding even that of the mighty (and turbocharged) F40, whilst the torque spread is extraordinary for an engine keen to howl beyond 8500rpm.  All these factors contribute to a 0-62mph time of just 3.7 seconds and a maximum speed in excess of 196mph.

The advancements continued with the ‘Manettino’, the steering wheel-mounted selector for stability systems, damping, shift speed, and throttle response.  And there’s the E-diff, whose calibrations this alters, a clever, clutch-controlled active differential that sorts out waywardness, not by inhibiting one rear wheel, but by pouring more torque into the other.  Ferrari reckons it’s worth 3 seconds a lap at the Fiorano test track, and it certainly helps make the F430 a far more forgiving machine than the 360, and a car of supremely subtle and keen responses.

UK supplied, full Ferrari Service History and just 25,100 miles

1990 Ferrari 348 TB

Lot # 331 (Sale Order: 32 of 35)

  • Left-hand drive delivered new to Italy in 1990 and one of the 60 pre-production cars
  • Just 2,500 km from new and Classiche certified
  • Complete set of official Ferrari luggage, tools and jack and a full leather book pack
  • Now UK-registered and recently main dealer serviced
  • A best-of-breed example and one for the true collector

The Ferrari 348 Series marked a radical departure in the way Maranello constructed its cars, replacing as they did a chassis of traditional steel tubes with a much stiffer monocoque structure and a tubular rear subframe. Suspension remained independent, front and rear, with wishbones, springs, telescopic shocks, anti-roll bars and revised geometry. The ventilated disc brakes were much larger than those of its predecessor, the Ferrari 328, and used anti-lock technology. A midship-mounted V8 returned, but it was larger and more powerful displacing 3405cc, mounted longitudinally and mated to a transverse gearbox with the displacement accounting for the new car's Ferrari 348 designation. The suffix ‘TB’ was derived from the transverse gearbox and closed 'Berlinetta' body style. A higher compression ratio and updated fuel injection helped generate 300 horsepower, 30-40 more than the Ferrari 328, whilst a dry-sump oiling system gave the new Ferrari a lower centre of gravity. The 348 was the last design under the supervision of legendary chief stylist Leonardo Fioravanti, and a lot of the styling cues came from the Testarossa, particularly the side strakes, however, its forms were softer than those of the 328 but still curvaceous and with a longer wheelbase and wider track the interior had a bit more space.

This beautiful, left-hand drive, 348TB was supplied new to Idropi S.P.A of Verona, Italy on the 1st February 1990 and is one of 60 pre-production cars that were released to Ferrari dealers. The only differences between this and subsequent production cars were that the battery is located in the rear of the car, not the front, the Prancing Horse is painted black as opposed to silver, and the underside of the bonnet is finished in red, whereas production cars were black. Finished in Rosso with a Tan interior, this superb example has been used infrequently, as reflected in its incredibly low mileage. During its life, the previous owner was a member of the prestigious 'Automotoclub Storico Italiano', a well-respected car club in Italy. In September 2014, when the mileage was recorded at 2,490km, the car was sent to Toni Auto of Maranello to be serviced.

In 2015, the previous owner sent the car back again to the aforementioned specialist for a full engine recommission and it was removed, dismantled, machined and cleaned before being reassembled and put back in the car. Photographs of this work and the €8,000 invoice are contained within the history file. 'Ferrari Classiche' has been prepared by Toni Auto of Maranello at a cost of 2,580 Euro as shown by the invoice and certificate in the history file.

This superb 348TB is supplied with a complete set of official Ferrari luggage, tools and jack and a full leather book pack containing all the relevant literature. It has been privately owned by our vendor for the past couple of years as part of his significant private collection, and during his ownership he has UK registered the 348 and sent it to H.R Owen for a service with the bill on file. Presented in exceptional condition, this car is a rare opportunity to own a 2,500km from new 348TB - a model that is now getting the attention that it richly deserves. This car ticks all the boxes and wouldn't look out of place in any car collection.

Just 2,500 km from new. Classiche certified and one of 60 pre-production cars

1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello

Lot # 332 (Sale Order: 33 of 35)

  • Only 3,445 miles from new in the hands of just two owners
  • Beautiful genuine condition; always garage-stored, complete service history
  • Recently professionally detailed and fully serviced (including belts)
  • The last of the purist's V12 manual Ferraris? Real-world GT ability and a timeless modern classic

Firmly placed in Ferrari's history as one of their finest modern-era big GTs, the 550 Maranello's combination of elegant lines and legendary front-mounted 12-cylinder engine, meant that these cars had the potential to become instant classics. Following in the footsteps and sharing the DNA of the 365 GTB/4 'Daytona', the 550 Maranello is inevitability compared to its forbear and very few other front-engined Ferraris could have stood up to that comparison. Styled by Pininfarina, like its illustrious predecessor, the 550 Maranello was similarly proportioned, adopting the classical combination of long bonnet, small cabin and a truncated tail. Classic Ferrari styling cues include a bonnet air scoop and hot air outlets behind the front wheel-arches recalling the great Competizione Ferraris of the past, whilst the rear incorporates Ferrari's characteristic twin circular lights. The heart of any Ferrari is its engine, and the 550 Maranello's 48-valve, 5.5-litre V12 develops 485bhp at 7,000rpm. The powertrain was housed in a tubular steel chassis, to which was attached aluminium coachwork, whilst the all-independent suspension incorporated dual-mode (normal/sports) damping, switch-selectable by the driver, which was complemented by speed-sensitive power-assisted steering. The six-speed manual gearbox complements a slightly more even torque curve ensuring that the power delivery was a little less frenetic, whilst excellent weight distribution and delightful road manners make the 550 Maranello a truly refined driving machine, whilst still capable of almost 200mph.

550s, along with the 355, are probably the pinnacle of that 'analogue' Ferrari period and although Dinos and Daytonas are undoubtedly sublime, when it comes to the combination of performance and looks combined with an engaging drive the 550 is a winner, especially given the current differential in market values compared to the older cars. Obviously, some modern cars may indeed see them off but 550s are deceptively nimble and certainly rapid enough to exceed most people’s driving capabilities. They're also a reasonable size and comfortable enough to hustle down your average twisty B-road without worrying whether you'll make it through that gap. With styling that is ageing particularly well, a high-quality cabin, generous storage and an enormous 100-litre-plus fuel tank, the 550 Maranello really is the consummate 'European Grand Tourer' in the true Ferrari mould.

The superb example presented here dates from 1998 and is a right-hand drive car built from new for the UK and finished in Rosso Corsa with a Tan interior. It was supplied by Charles Hurst Ltd. (Ferrari) of Belfast in July 1998 to its first owner whos hectic international business life meant that it was used infrequently but always correctly garage stored. It was serviced by Charles Hurst Ltd. at 2,095 miles and 2,580 miles (belts replaced) and then again at 3,429 miles (belts replaced) by respected Ferrari specialists Keys Motorsport Ltd. of Towcester, who inspected the car and were impressed with its overall condition, noting its particularly sweet-running engine and slick gear-change. However, its lack of regular use meant that its first owner decided to let it go and it was offered at Silverstone Auctions Ferrari Sale in May 2018 where its amazing condition and tiny mileage generated much appreciation.

The car’s second owner obviously used the Ferrari gently as well, indicated by an invoice from Graypaul Nottingham in late October 2018 when the mileage is recorded as 3,437. Graypaul sent some time servicing the 550’s brakes and with new discs, pads, flexible pipes and a new distribution block the account was in the region of £3,200. At the time of photography, the odometer indicated 3,445 miles and, naturally, the service history is fully documented in the accompanying books and manuals.

Patently immaculate, a new owner can derive real confidence from the glowing report from Keys Motorsport and the comprehensive brake service by Graypaul, both within the last 20 miles.

The old adage “A busy Ferrari is a happy Ferrari” is still true and it would be nice to think that the car’s new owner would use this stunning 550 Grand Tourer for just that, a bit of ‘Grand Touring’.

1984 Ferrari 308 GTS QV

Lot # 334 (Sale Order: 35 of 35)

  • UK- supplied, right-hand drive, 68,000 miles showing supported by a comprehensive, detailed history folder

  • Presented in the rare and attractive colour combination of Argento silver over cream leather

  • The final variant of the 308, the QV featured, among other updates, four valves per cylinder and a power output of 240bhp

  • A usable classic sports car with beautiful styling and sparkling performance offering an exciting ownership experience

This UK supplied right-hand drive QV presents superbly in the rare colour combination of Argento Silver with cream leather seats, setting the car apart from the usual red/cream, red/black Ferrari standard. This example is accompanied by a complete and detailed history folder supporting the current odometer reading of 68,000 miles including invoices and MOTs dating back to 1984. The original stamped service book is present with supporting paperwork up-to-date and the last major belt service was completed in October 2018, only 1,000 miles ago. In summary, it’s clear that this lovely Ferrari has been regularly enjoyed and only maintained by highly regarded marque specialists. Although you wouldn’t consider 68,000 miles as particularly high for a 35-year-old car, many Ferrari experts believe it’s the cars that are used frequently that drive the best and tend to be more reliable and the old adage “A busy Ferrari is a happy Ferrari” has a lot of merit.

One of only 233 right-hand drive examples produced, the 308 GTS QV with its timeless lines, rewarding handling, removable roof panel, and that raspy V8 just behind you, offers the perfect way into classic Ferrari ownership.

A striking, UK-spec 308 GTS QV in a rare colour
