(N) FINE ORIGINAL ERMA MANUFACTURED GERMAN WORLD WAR II MP-40 MACHINE GUN (CURIO AND RELIC)

Lot # 2010 (Sale Order: 10 of 630)

Erma manufactured German MP-40 machine gun marked "ayf 41" on end cap with numerous Nazi proof marks throughout. Both "WaA280" and "WaA44" denoting both Erma and cos (Mertzwerke) manufacture. Mertzwerke was a subcontractor for sheet metal parts for many German weapons including the MP40. Actual serial number is 3252g with 1942 date on receiver tube. This indicates that the gun was finished soon after the new year. Visible numbers appear matching on front sight hood, barrel resting bar, barrel, barrel nut, receiver tube, lower assembly, firing pin, swing out shoulder loop, and rear sight. Bolt number does not match. The MP40 was designed to be a compact burst fire weapon originally intended for dismounted vehicle and armor troops but as time passed it was fielded in ever increasing numbers to all unit formations. Production continued until it was subsumed by the fielding of the MP44/Sturmgewehr weapons as Germany devoted more and more of its sheet metal manufacturing capacity to that arm and less to the MP40. Accessories include one original 32 round magazine. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish are very good to fine. About 75% original blue finish thinning to a grey patina with otherwise brown patina scattered throughout. Bakelite has typical handling marks. White pot metal barrel resting bar. Mechanics are fine. Bore is good to very good turning dark in the grooves. Bolt face is fine. This is a fully automatic only machine gun. A nice German World War II machine gun with nearly all matching parts. Erma manufactured German MP-40 machine gun marked "ayf 41" on end cap with numerous Nazi proof marks throughout. Both "WaA280" and "WaA44" denoting both Erma and cos (Mer...moretzwerke) manufacture. (N) GUNSMITH’S PROJECT WORLD WAR I FRENCH MODEL 1914 HOTCHKISS MACHINE GUN ON U.S. STANDARD PARTS CO

Lot # 2016 (Sale Order: 15 of 630)

This is an amnesty registered World War I French model 1914 Hotchkiss machine gun in original 8mm Lebel on an original U.S. Standard Parts Company ground mount. Only about 2500 of these mounts were manufactured and most were scrapped many years ago. This Hotchkiss is dated “1918” on right side of receiver, and “MITRAILLEUSE AUTOMATIQUE HOTCHKISS / BREVETEE S.G.D.G. / CALIBRE 8 M/M” on left side of receiver. Receiver, barrel, and handgrip are matching numbers. Bolt is un-numbered, without extractor present, and has been drilled through and torch melted through extractor area. Probably repairable with the right amount of skill and effort. No muzzle present. No gas regulator present. No feed block present. Two non-original coil springs are within action which serve to keep the operating piston under tension in a rudimentary way. This gun's rear sight is marked for "D" ammunition which indicates it was probably a WW1 bring-back gun and was never retrofitted for the later "N" Type ammunition. Chamber was at one time welded shut but has been opened up. Weighty Standard Products tripod retains both traverse stops yet is missing one of the locking wedges which retains the guns trunnion in place. Attachment pin between tripod head and gun is a contemporary standard bolt. Traverse lock lever is bent. The French Model 1914 Hotchkiss machine gun is an extremely durable design and was used by both the French and U.S. forces during World War I. The heavy cooling rings on the barrel are an instantly recognizable trademark. This gun is a reactivated amnesty registered gun with appropriate markings and remains Curio and Relic eligible. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance is a fine thick coverage of added black enamel paint on gun and an especially thick coat on the tripod over pitting and scale. Rear sight ladder escaped the paint, but is missing the ladder lock and took a blow, which bent it in a curve and made it non-functional. Operating piston looks serviceable with some brown patina. Mechanics need attention as noted above. Bore of gun is actually fine with strong rifling, dark in the grooves. This would be a full-auto only machine gun if functional. There is no doubt in this cataloger’s mind that many will see this as an attractive project to take on. Hotchkiss guns are popular machine guns! THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 5 DEACTIVATED YET REMAINS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. (N) VERY FINE MARLIN ROCKWELL MODEL 1918A2 BROWNING AUTOMATIC RIFLE (B.A.R) MACHINE GUN (PRE-86 DEAL

Lot # 2018 (Sale Order: 17 of 630)

Classic World War 2 retrofit of a Marlin Rockwell WW1 model 1918 Browning Automatic Rifle originally manufactured in November 1918 as indicated by the barrel date. As many were, this specimen was retrofitted during WW2 and has added “A2” hand stamped after “1918” on top of receiver. The gun retains the 1st variation adjustable gas cylinder plug, and also has a bipod, carrying handle, smooth wooden fore-end, composite buttstock, and "F A S" selector markings with updated internals. British nitro proof and firing test proofs on left side of barrel indicate this gun was in British hands before returning to the United States. Inter American Import Export Company markings are visible on left side of barrel. Twelve original 20 round magazines and a modern black sling are included with this gun. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine over about 92% WW2 Era smooth arsenal refinish with some thinning and some wear to a grey patina at the high edges. Wood and composite furnishings exhibit light but typical handling marks and dings. Mechanics are fine. Bore near excellent shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. This is a full-auto only (fast and slow) machine gun. The BAR is always a favorite among collectors and shooters. A historic classic which is also loads of fun as the range. A great specimen which may well have seen use in both world wars and likely a returned “lend lease” gun from Great Britain. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER.
