***Auction Highlight*** 1891 $1 Large Size Silver Certificate Martha Washington Fr-223 Sig Tilman-Morgan Grades vf+. Martha Washington is the first and only woman ...moreto grace the primary portrait of U.S. paper currency. Martha Washington's image appears on the $1 Silver Certificate. The $1 Certificates were discontinued in 1957. It was the nation's second-longest issued paper money and as the name suggests was backed by the U.S. Government's silver deposits and could be redeemed at any time for silver from the U.S. Treasury. he design began in the summer of 1886. The Galveston Daily News reported on August 17th, 1886, "It is learned at the Treasury Department that the new Silver Certificates authorized at the last session of Congress will not be ready for issue before November, the $1 certificate contains a vignette of Martha Washington." The portrait featured on the currency is based on Charles François Jalabert's portrait of Martha Washingto

***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 Halves Las Vegas Casino Horseshoe 1936 Walker & 1899

Lot # 406 (Sale Order: 304 of 681)

***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 Halves Las Vegas Casino Horseshoe 1936 Walker & 1899 Barber Ends. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a ...morecollection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

***Auction Highlight*** 1938 New Rochelle Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 410 (Sale Order: 308 of 681)

***Auction Highlight*** 1938 New Rochelle Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67 By SEGS. The 1938 New Rochelle Half Dollar was one of several early commemorative issues...more that celebrated an event of primarily local significance with the issuance of a coin on a national scale. These coins were conceived and planned by the Westchester County Coin Club of New Rochelle, New York.Initially, Lorillard Wise was engaged to prepare the designs for the coin. Her first models featured a Native American crouching in the grass and watching a boat carry settlers to the shore on the obverse, and the city seal on the reverse. The Commission of Fine Arts rejected the designs, recommending changes, which were executed and also rejected.Eventually, Gertrude Lathrop, who had designed the 1936 Albany Half Dollar, was engaged to prepare new designs for the New Rochelle Half Dollar. Her obverse design would depict John Pell and a fatted calf, which recalls the sale of the original land upon which the city now stands. One of the conditions of the sale was for Pell or his heirs to receive a fatted calf each year on June 24. The reverse design features the fleur-de-lis, taken from the seal of the city. Similar to the obverse, the single design element is presented in a flat and open field with sharply contrasted lettering. Authorizing legislation provided that the coins should be dated 1938, without regard to when the coins were actually minted, and have a maximum mintage of 25,000 pieces. The Philadelphia Mint struck the entire amount in 1937, which were sold through the New Rochelle Commemorative Coin Committee for $2 each. Eventually, almost 10,000 pieces were returned to the mint for melting, resulting in small net distribution of 15,266 coins. When examining a New Rochelle Check for wear on the calf’s hip and the highpoints of the fleur de lies.

1922 Large Size $10 Gold Certificate Fr-1173 Speelman/White Grades vf+

Lot # 420 (Sale Order: 318 of 681)

1922 Large Size $10 Gold Certificate Fr-1173 Speelman/White Grades vf+. It is hard to believe that large size ten dollar gold certificates were only issued in 190...more7 and 1922. The United States first printed gold certificates in the early 1860s. For some reason they never printed the ten dollar denomination until 1907. 1922 was the last year of the large size gold Certificate Currnecy. In 1928 paper money was changed to the size we are accustomed to seeing today. The portrait of Alexander Hamilton was used instead of the virtually unknown Michael Hillegas. Hillegas was the first treasurer of The United States. Perhaps if Hillegas had died in a duel then he would be better remembered today. All 1922 $10 gold certificates were signed by Speelman and White. Interestingly enough, there is a small variety for the series. Some notes have smaller serial numbers than the standard numbers. The small serial number notes do command a slight premium, especially in higher grades.

***Auction Highlight*** 1935-d Arkansas Old Commem Half Dollar Near Top POP 50c Grades Gem++ Unc (fc

Lot # 426 (Sale Order: 324 of 681)

***Auction Highlight*** 1935-d Arkansas Near Top POP Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades Gem++ Unc. Commemorative coins were authorized to celebrate the 100th anniversary ...moreof the admission of Arkansas into the Union. The Arkansas Centennial Half Dollars ended up being issued during five separate years, across three different mints. The coins became controversial due to the stream of variations created specifically to market to collectors, as well as the escalating issue prices as mintage for later issues became smaller. The obverse design features the head of Liberty and a Native American in headdress. Although this is now considered to be the obverse of the coin, there was initially some confusion and US Mint records and some references refer to this side as the reverse. In 1936, a new design was issued for this side of the coin, featuring a Senator who was living at the time of issue. The 1936 Robinson-Arkansas Half Dollar is considered a separate issue by most collectors. The reverse of the coin features the image of an eagle with wings spread, perched on the rising sun with rays emanating upwards. In the background a geometrical shape appears with the word “Arkansas” at center, amidst an arrangement of stars. Both the obverse and reverse design designed by Edward Everett Burr, following models prepared by Emily Bates. At the onset, the Arkansas Half Dollar was struck in a modest quantity of 13,012 pieces at the Philadelphia Mint with an additional 5,505 from Denver and 5,506 from San Francisco. The Philadelphia issues were sold at an issue price of $1 each, while the mint marked coins were purchased in a bulk transaction by a coin dealer and subsequently sold for $2.75 each. This initial situation was a taste of things to come.In the following year, coins from three different mints were initially offered for $1 each, but the price was quickly raised to $1.50 per coin, and eventually sold as sets of three coins for $6.75. The following year three coin sets were sold at $8.75, which was eventually raised to $10. This would also be the price of the 1939 sets. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
