Outstanding Original Model 1847 Colt Walker Revolver

Lot # 1

A truly exceptional Model 1847 US Colt Walker Revolver 44 Caliber Percussion A Company No. 74 in its fine, original, condition. All markings are very good to fine throughout. Full barrel address that is very readable. The cylinder retains 40-50% of its original Ranger and Indian fight scene with the pressure ridge visible all the way around and it also retains initials W.L. Ormsby's signature, which is mostly visible. The gun's condition indicates that at some point it has been carefully cleaned and polished, leaving the overall finish bright. If not for the polishing, it would have retained good amount of original blue finish. The sequential serial number "294" is sharp on the rear shoulder. All nipples are original, and the remainder of the single-safety pin is evident. The grips are fine, nicely numbered 94 internally in the usual location with just tiny (1/16 inch) losses at each toe. There are no cracks or repairs, and a trace of the cartouche is visible on the left with the right-side light but fully readable (WAT). All internal parts are original and fine, only the mainspring is a replacement. Matching internal numbers are all in their proper places and are likewise fine. Externally, just two screws are old replacements: the wedge and buttstrap screws. The wedge is original with the single digit "1" on it. There is an old braze repair on the loading lever at the base of the round lever handle with the round handle only apparently a very well-done replacement. The remainder of the loading lever assembly is all original; these guns commonly found with loading lever repairs or replacements due to forging problems. The always replaced loading lever repairs or replacements due to forging problems. The always replaced loading lever retaining spring is staked in, properly designed and working well. The single digit "2" is stamped on the barrel next to the lever spring with the digit "1" in the loading lever cut out slot. These digits were probably done at the time of the loading lever braze repair. The bore is fine with sharp rifling and exceptionally good for this model. This A Company No. 74 is an extraordinary, fine, original Walker. Its markings, metal surfaces, edges, mechanics, and grips all show evidence of light use. It would certainly retain some original finish if it had not been polished earlier in its life. Do not miss this opportunity to purchase a specimen of the Colt Walker that is in the top 10% of Walkers remaining in collectors' hands.

Providence:
The earliest reference found for this firearm is its inclusion in the 1939 Quick listing. Mr. Quick noted the owner as J.C. Harvey of Boston, a prominent early collector. The famous Harvey collection was sold in 1958. Then, it reappeared in 2003 as part of the Robert Peterson collection of firearms. Mr. Peterson is world-renowned for one of the finest collections of antique arms and features an entire room dedicated to his collection in the National Rifle Association Museum in Fairfax, Virginia. Also featured and illustrated in Colt Firearms by Haven and Belton. Examined and lettered by Herb Glass Jr., worlds most expert on the Colt Walker. Mr. Glass has completed disassembled and carefully examined this Walker and given it his full endorsement of being an original Walker. Mr. Glass' letter will accompany this gun in purchase.
