Bead and elevator sights, with a Winchester Express sight on the tang, standard barrel markings, and fancy walnut stock, minus grip insert. Letter also verifies serial number, configuration, caliber, 1/2 octagon barrel, plain trigger, sights, 1/2 magazine and rubber shotgun buttplate.

Manufactured from 1879 to 1886. Top flat of barrel marked "WHITNEY KENNEDY MF'D. BY / WHITNEY ARMS CO NEW HAVEN CONN, U.S.A." ahead of the rear sight and "38 CAL" directly behind the sight at the breech, two line patent marking on the upper tang and the serial number on the lower tang under the standard lever. Blade front sight with bead, buckhorn rear sight and full length tube magazine. Smooth forend with an iron cap, straight grip stock and iron buttplate with cavity.
